Lazybones captures the musical chemistry of 2 east coast songwriters who fronted 2 completely different bands. While both brought socially and politically charged lyrics to the music they were making one combined pop, punk, reggae and ska while the other found a meeting place for folk driven protest songs and hardcore metal. Now they've connected as two singers, with two acoustic guitars and a collection of new songs that have found a musical meeting place somewhere between Bob Marley and Willie Nelson.....or something like that.
Matt Wells spent the better part of 12 years releasing music and trying to slam his foot through every stage he performed on as a member of the notorious Newfoundland band Bucket Truck. His other life has been as a Gemini Nominated music television host and music journalist who has helped hundreds of independent musicians gain national television exposure. Wells has also interviewed everyone from Lou Reed, Metallica and Coldplay to Ozzy Osbourne, Lady Gaga and Deborah Harry; and he just might be the only music journalist who has opened for Slayer AND sang onstage with half of Van Halen. Fellow east coaster; Nova Scotian Tim MacNeill fronted the critically acclaimed east coast band Arlibido and has continued his award winning song writing now as a published author. With a BA in International Development Studies and a Masters Degree in Development Economics, Tim has presented papers all over the world on the power of music to motivate, inspire, and bring meaning to lives, as well as be a resource for political and economic development. He currently is completing a Doctorate in Communication and Culture which has found him devoting much of his time working with Indigenous Mayan groups in Central America as they rebuild their communities.
Lazybones debut album, Songs From Here, was released on August 11, 2009 through the fair trade music website noisetrade.com and features Newfoundland artists Dave Panting, Geoff Panting, Patrick Boyle and also Huey Lewis and Jill Barber. With a sound that borrows from Matt's Newfoundland and Labrador roots and love of old time country and bluegrass mixed with Tim's long lasting love affair with reggae along with the influences he has taken in while spending months at a time in Central America-the album (Songs from Here) found itself happily floating between genres. Different songs kept popping up at different radio formats and the live show has also grown from a duo to Matt and Tim accompanied by band and chorus of other singers. Perfect Life has been spinning at country radio, with a video on MuchMore and CMT; Slowmotion and Sleepy Tune have been featured regularly on CBC radio and the album also found its way onto the Canadian campus radio charts.
