Anyone who has ever attempted to stash a large stack of bills knows it’s not an easy feat.

Recently, a 51-year-old man was charged with smuggling cash.

According to reports, the suspect attempted to conceal and ultimately smuggle $128,547 while returning to the United States from Mexico. The man and his son were driving through a port of entry located in San Ysidro, California.

A U.S. Customs agent stopped their vehicle to conduct a preliminary check. The 51-year-old’s son told the authority he and his father had only been in Mexico for a few hours while attending to the family’s ‘agricultural business’.

Although the two relatives denied having anything that needed to be declared, the border agent found a jar filled with marijuana hidden in a coat that was on the back seat. The men were escorted to a security office to be frisked and that’s when the father admitted to having money in his socks.

The father said he had originally planned on declaring the bills, until the drug discovery ‘distracted’ him.
