A new survey commissioned by State Farm Insurance shows that the worst driving happens around the holidays.
In what should be a more peaceful and joyous time of the year, the holiday season is also known for bringing out the worst in some people, especially on the road. A new survey commissioned by State Farm Insurance shows that the worst driving happens around the holidays too.
After polling 1,000 adult drivers with valid licenses, the survey reported that 44 percent of drivers admitted behaving aggressively while driving and 64 percent of drivers witnessed aggressive driving six times or more in the last 90 days.
Types of aggressive behavior included cutting people off, improper lane changes or passing, tailgating, speeding, not using turn signals, rude hand gestures, and fighting for parking places.
Situations that cause tempers to flare even more included construction, running late, and traffic jams.
Chris Duncan, a State Farm agent, says when encountering an aggressive driver, “Let it go. Let them win. Because at the end of the day, what do you gain by engaging that person? It can’t end well.”
Aside from controlling your behavior and emotions, State Farm recommends planning extra time to account for the delays or using public transportation.
