A cat in Melbourne, Australia is being hailed as a hero after saving its owner’s life during a fire. The blaze started at about 1 in the morning.

The 49-year-old homeowner, Craig Geeves had no idea flames were spreading in his house, as he was fast asleep.

He came to know when he heard his feline frantically meowing to get his attention.

Geeves noted - “She was standing on my head screaming, the loudest scream I've ever heard from a cat screaming at me and then I smelt the smoke and jumped out of bed.”

Geeves grabbed his cat and ran outside. Fire crews soon arrived on scene to tackle the fire. They didn’t find Geeves until later when he came out of the bush.

He was treated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters were not able to save the residence, despite their best efforts to douse the flames. They did, however, prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby homes.

Geeves took his hero cat to a neighbor’s house after the fire. Everyone agrees Geeves is lucky to have made it out of the blaze alive.
