A Pizza Hut franchise pulled its free pet with purchase promo after being bombarded with protests by angry animal lovers and outraged activists.

To announce the deal the Melbourne restaurant hung a large sign outside of their storefront.

The banner read, “Buy any 10 large pizzas and get one free small animal from Pets Story” and featured a picture of a hamster.

Before long, both Facebook and Twitter were ablaze with comments about how irresponsible and inappropriate the incentive was.

One person pleaded, “…don’t give away animals like toys…”

Before long news of the advertisement reached Pizza Hut’s corporate headquarters, and they clarified that they were not involved.

The Australian main office also announced that the sign had been completely removed and free pets were no longer being offered.

A spokesperson for the restaurant chain said, “On behalf of Pizza Hut Australia we once again apologise for this thoughtless promotion ever occurring and would like to reassure you all that this matter is being seriously dealt with.”

It was stressed that no pets were given away during the brief duration of the campaign.
