On Monday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, or VFW, spoke out against Donald Trump and his treatment of both Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of a fallen U.S. soldier, notes Politico.
Following the family’s appearance at the Democratic National Convention, Trump appeared on ABC News and questioned why the grieving mother, “...was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably...wasn't allowed to have anything to say. You tell me."
Trump also asserted that "Mr. Khan had 'no right' to question" his understanding of the Constitution, reports the New York Times.
Brian Duffy, the VFW’s national commander, characterized the GOP candidate’s comments as "out-of-bounds."
He also said, “Election year or not, the VFW will not tolerate anyone berating a Gold Star family member for exercising his or her right of speech or expression.”
Duffy further stressed, “There are certain sacrosanct subjects that no amount of wordsmithing can repair once crossed.”
