A lake in Melbourne, Australia’s Westgate Park has turned a lovely shade of pink.

According to Parks Victoria, the color change is, “…a natural phenomenon in response to very high salt levels, high temperatures, sunlight and lack of rainfall. Algae growing in the salt crust at the bottom of the lake produces the red pigment (beta carotene) as part of its photosynthesis process and in response to the extremely high salt levels.”
People are welcome to visit the rosy body of water for a closer look but are advised to avoid making direct contact with it.
Sadly, the color is only temporary.
It is expected to go back to its typical--and more traditional--bluish hue as area temperatures cool and precipitation levels increase.
