00:03 This video is a beginner's guide to eye makeup
00:05 from using primers, picking brushes, choosing eyeshadows,
00:09 application methods, and fun tips and tricks.
00:12 Let's start with primer.
00:13 Primer helps our eyeshadows to last longer
00:15 and prevents the oils from creasing up our shadows.
00:18 Or you could use your concealer or foundation as a base
00:20 and set it with a little bit of powder
00:22 to keep it lasting longer.
00:24 It's kind of the old-fashioned way.
00:25 Eyeshadows come in different textures, tones, and shades.
00:28 It can be kind of confusing,
00:29 but you really only need three to four shades
00:31 to create a basic look.
00:33 Firstly, a highlighter,
00:34 which should be at least one shade lighter than your skin.
00:37 You can also use your facial highlighter,
00:39 which is a great way to bring your look together.
00:41 One matte mid-tone.
00:43 This will help to blend out your eye makeup softly.
00:46 Try using a matte bronzer if you can't find one.
00:49 And a contour shade.
00:50 This should be at least two to three shades darker
00:53 than your skin tone, and this will add shape and shadow.
00:56 You can also have a matte black eyeshadow,
00:58 which can be used in tons of different ways.
01:00 For brushes, I like to have three to four,
01:02 or two in my case, because they're double-ended.
01:05 Firstly, a flat brush for applying eyeshadows and pigments.
01:08 When you're using this brush, glide it over the shadow
01:11 or press lightly to pick it up.
01:13 A small smudger brush for detailed work,
01:15 but this is optional.
01:16 Most importantly, a blending brush.
01:18 This is soft and fluffy.
01:20 When using this, lightly dip the tip of the brush
01:23 in the shadow.
01:24 And finally, my favorite go-to brush.
01:26 This is kind of flat at the base,
01:27 but blends right at the tip.
01:29 Begin with a flat brush and your lightest eyeshadow.
01:32 If you pick up too much, tap off the excess.
01:35 Never blow on your brushes, it's unhygienic.
01:37 Start right at the inner corner of the lid.
01:39 This is where we want the concentration
01:41 of the product to be.
01:42 And you can then blend it across the lid.
01:44 Here's a fun trick.
01:45 Dampen the tip of your brush, but don't soak it,
01:48 and brush off any excess,
01:49 and then pick up a little bit of product.
01:51 Don't worry, it won't ruin your eyeshadow.
01:53 Apply it as normal, but I'm focusing on the inner corner.
01:56 And you can see how it really shimmers and shines.
01:59 It's really fun.
01:59 Take the flat brush again, and a little highlighter,
02:02 and pat this underneath the arch of your brows.
02:04 I don't like it to be too shimmery,
02:06 so I gently wipe to remove any excess.
02:09 Next, take your fluffy blending brush and your mid-tone.
02:12 Keep your eyes open for this.
02:14 Blend above the crease, starting on the outer corner,
02:17 and work inwards this time.
02:19 If you aren't sure where to start blending,
02:21 place your brush on the edge of your nose,
02:23 and up towards the edge of your eye
02:25 to create an imaginary line.
02:27 Everything below this needs to be kept clear,
02:30 so blend your eyeshadows inwards to this point.
02:34 Next up is contouring.
02:35 Remember to keep the shadow at the very tip of the brush,
02:38 and start from the outer corner,
02:40 and blend into the crease on the outer half of the eye.
02:44 Your mid-tone is always higher than your contour,
02:48 so it's important not to blend this up too high.
02:51 Go back in with your clean mid-tone blending brush
02:55 to soften the edges, but you shouldn't need to reapply.
02:58 For underneath the eye,
03:01 I'm going to use that same flat brush,
03:03 just gonna wipe it clean.
03:05 Taking a mixture of the mid-tone and the contour,
03:07 I'm gonna sweep this underneath my eye,
03:09 right on that outer corner to meet that highlight.
03:13 You can also join this to that outer edge.
03:15 To darken the look, I'm gonna take a little bit
03:19 of that black with the same brush,
03:20 and apply it on the outer edge.
03:23 Keep it as close to the lash line as possible.
03:26 Then sweep it slightly underneath to match.
03:28 Complete this look by curling your eyelashes,
03:32 and adding some mascara.
03:33 When using mascara, a big mistake we all can make
03:36 is by pumping it.
03:38 This only pushes air inside,
03:39 and causes it to dry out quicker.
03:41 Apply mascara right at the roots,
03:43 and wiggle out towards the tip.
03:45 If you always end up with mascara on your skin,
03:48 use a mascara shield or a piece of card.
03:51 Assume you'll be adding things like liner and lashes
03:53 to complete your look, it all just takes practice.
03:55 Have fun.
