00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're taking a look at our list of 20 hidden
00:10 details in Lego games. The Lego games have so many fun little nods and
00:19 details sprinkled in their games and these were our absolute favorites. What
00:24 do you think is the best aspect of the Lego games? Let us know down in the
00:27 comments. Before we begin we publish new videos all week long so be sure to
00:32 subscribe to Mojo Plays and ring the bells to be notified about our latest
00:35 videos. A box from the past.
00:41 The Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure Pack was one of the best expansions Lego
00:48 Dimensions had seen in its short lifetime. Why? For starters it was a
00:52 lovely homage to all things Sonic but there was also a neat nod to Sega fans
00:57 in general. There are a few times in various cutscenes, levels, and parts of
01:01 the world where you may find a Lego-fied Sega Genesis console. The same console
01:06 that the Blue Blur would debut on all the way back in 1991. How has there not
01:12 been a real set of this yet? Forever Immortal.
01:18 "Hard-working comic guys making stuff about me because I'm great." One of the
01:24 coolest parts about Lego games is how they pay respect and accurately depict
01:27 various characters in creative ways. Take characters with regenerative abilities
01:32 for example. In the Lego Marvel games characters like Deadpool and Wolverine
01:36 have health yet never die like any other character. Instead they turn into a
01:41 skeleton and can still run, jump, and attack like nothing ever happened. You
01:46 still lose studs unfortunately but this was a neat idea to implement for our
01:50 seemingly immortal heroes and villains. He still loves you.
01:56 The second Lego Star Wars game explored a charming concept that involved some
02:04 characters having specific interactions with other characters. It's a fun
02:08 attention to detail that future Lego games would implement as we'll see later
02:11 on. Back to Lego Star Wars 2 though, one of our favorite interactions is between
02:16 Lando and Leia. Rather than attack Leia like any other character, Lando will
02:21 kneel down and kiss her hand. It's a cute inclusion that TT Games really
02:26 didn't have to throw in, but you know what they did it anyway and it's sweet.
02:30 "Dunk, dunk, dunk, I say whip it!"
02:35 Indy got his own special interactions too, specifically when it comes to a
02:40 lover like Marion. Normally Indy is using his whip to disarm and injure the bad
02:45 guys or you know swing over chasms of spiked pitfalls and grab items from afar.
02:50 What else can Indy use the whip for? Get your filthy mind out of the gutter
02:54 because it's not that. He can pull Marion or some of the other female characters
02:58 closer and give a quick smooch. Nothing too big but still something fun and cute
03:04 that TT Games really didn't have to throw in here.
03:06 Well, shimmy my chongas!
03:12 Throughout the first LEGO Marvel you'll notice some appearances from two
03:16 characters. We'll get to one of them later, but Deadpool is the one we want to
03:20 focus on for now. Whether it's in a cutscene or somewhere in the background
03:24 of a level, you'll have many opportunities to spot the Merc with a
03:27 mouth goofing off around somewhere. Just don't expect him to do anything vulgar.
03:32 These games are meant for kids, you know. "Hey, back to it Marvel dudes!" Ripped from
03:37 the reel. "Also, in case you missed it, the word battery has bat in it." There were just so
03:43 many cool things about LEGO Dimensions that we could probably do a whole video
03:47 or two about it, but one of the funny details about the LEGO movie characters
03:51 is how differently they're animated compared to the rest of the cast. Emmett,
03:55 Wildstyle, Benny, Good Cop, Bad Cop, and even Batman are all animated with super
04:00 stiff movements. It's a bit more of an accurate representation of LEGO minifigs,
04:05 or at least how they move in real life, unlike the free-moving lens of the
04:09 video game LEGO minifigs. America's Sweetheart.
04:15 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes had so many neat ideas sprinkled in to properly
04:21 characterize the heroes, villains, and even New York itself. For this one, you'll
04:26 have to make your way over to the south end of the map, all the way to the Statue
04:30 of Liberty. Just hang around, admire the statue for a bit, and you'll eventually
04:35 be given a wink and a nod from Lady Liberty herself. Just a lovely little
04:39 piece of New York placed to really bring the in-game version of the city to life.
04:45 As Seen on TV. A couple of fun running gags they put in LEGO Batman 3 were the
04:53 references to the 1960s Batman television series starring Adam West. One
04:59 of these gags can be found when browsing the character grid. If you leave the
05:02 cursor idle while highlighted on a character, you might hear that character
05:06 sing their own version of the classic Batman theme song, but with their own
05:11 name thrown in. Not every character may sing their rendition, yet the few that do
05:19 add a little more charm to the game.
05:25 The fan theory is... true?
05:31 Despite its shortcomings, LEGO The Incredibles does have a few aspects that
05:41 make it a joy to play. For us, that one bit that kept us going were all of those
05:45 wonderful Pixar cameos. No, we aren't talking about the Pixar builds that you
05:49 can just flat-out find in the open world. There are plenty of opportunities to
05:54 spot other characters and objects from other Pixar movies such as Up, Toy Story,
05:58 and even some of the famed Pixar shorts from across the decades. Some of the
06:03 playable characters even come with their own cute abilities like Miguel from Coco
06:07 playing on his guitar or Bing Bong from Inside Out summoning his wagon.
06:13 Safe travels, Doctor.
06:21 LEGO Dimensions had a similar treat when it came to locations from other IPs.
06:28 However, the only way to see these locations was if you had the TARDIS
06:32 available for use. This would allow you to use the various TARDIS stations in
06:36 the game and travel to other worlds based on the Flintstones, the Jetsons, or
06:40 even alternate timelines and dimensions of other stories. The DeLorean from Back
06:45 to the Future had a similar function, requiring you to hit 88 miles per hour
06:49 in order to time travel. Nuff said.
06:54 The Avengers showed up. As we mentioned earlier, there are two characters that
06:59 make frequent appearances in the LEGO Marvel games. Deadpool, or Gwenpool if
07:04 you're playing Super Heroes 2, and the man, the myth, the legend himself, Stan
07:09 Lee. Yes, Stan the Man does serve as the citizen in peril collectible, but there
07:14 are also various cutscenes where he's sort of inserted into the story. One of
07:19 our favorite moments is in the first game when Dr. Doom is detailing his plan
07:23 involving various villains holding pieces of cosmic bricks. One of his
07:27 cronies is supposedly Stan Lee, and yet, now that we think about it, we never got
07:32 that cosmic brick from him in the first place.
07:36 A magical boggart of tricks.
07:43 The LEGO Harry Potter games hold all kinds of neat touches to bring Hogwarts
07:48 to life. One such detail can be found in a particular chest that houses a boggart.
07:52 For those unfamiliar with Harry Potter, boggarts are creatures that take the form
07:57 of one's worst fears. The chest in Hogwarts houses a boggart, and when
08:01 approached by most characters, it'll take the form of Voldemort. But for Ron,
08:05 it'll become a spider. And for Tom Riddle, well, it's the boy wizard himself.
08:13 A band of silence.
08:20 Now this was a detail that was completely unnecessary, but we love it
08:26 so so much. Normally in a video game, when you go to the settings and turn off
08:31 music, you know, that's all that happens. The music is off. The game remains the
08:35 same, just no music. However, part of what makes LEGO Star Wars the Complete Saga
08:40 so special is that something does happen when you mute the music. Head over to the
08:45 Cantina Band after muting the music, and you'll find the three of them are just
08:49 sitting around and trying to figure out what to do with their lives.
08:53 Their hearts will go on.
09:06 Don't worry, this is the last time we're gushing about LEGO Dimensions, but we
09:10 absolutely loved this small detail put into the Ghostbusters world. Head on over
09:15 to the sunken ship that lies just outside of the city. At the very front of
09:19 the ship, you'll see a skeleton holding another skeleton with red hair and its
09:23 arms spread out. Yes, it is very much a nod to the 1997 film Titanic, and the same
09:30 couple can be spotted when getting the ship to surface during the Ghostbusters
09:33 story level. Now you're in the movies!
09:43 Just as LEGO Incredibles did with Pixar movies, LEGO Jurassic World pays a ton of
09:53 respect to Steven Spielberg and his movies. Various cutscenes and levels hold
09:58 references to Spielberg's work. E.T. can be seen flying across the moon in one
10:02 cutscene. A movie theater in Jurassic World will recreate the Jaws 3D bit
10:07 from Back to the Future Part 2. Brody, Hooper, and Quint make cameos at the end
10:12 of Jurassic Park 2. And for Spielberg himself, he can toss his countless Oscar
10:17 Awards as a projectile, and he even makes a couple of cameos throughout the game.
10:21 "San Diego is the perfect site. It could be completed and ready to receive
10:27 visitors in less than a month." Back to the 70s.
10:32 Whereas Stan the Man took much of the spotlight in the first LEGO Marvel game,
10:39 he had to share the spotlight with another famous figure in Marvel fandom.
10:43 Lou Ferrigno, who played the Hulk in the 1978 television series, got to appear in
10:49 LEGO Marvel's Avengers as a security guard, which also references his cameo in
10:53 the 2003 movie Hulk. But the best part is when you play as him and transform him
10:58 into the Hulk. There is no grand transformation, just a bit of green spray
11:04 paint. Back further to the 60s.
11:20 Let us go back a decade further to touch upon the corny Batman TV show one last
11:25 time. To really bring the celebration of classic Bat media to a close,
11:29 LEGO Batman 3 featured a bonus level entirely themed around the 1960s TV
11:35 series. One segment sees Batman and Robin chasing the Joker with vehicles, and if
11:40 you look closely, you'll notice the entire scene is done with the vehicles
11:44 on a treadmill and a painted background looping behind them. It's just like how
11:49 they shot movies and shows back in those days.
11:53 Keeping it out of the family. For the last entry on LEGO Star Wars, we really
12:07 had to touch upon this interesting detail. When playing as Vader, you gain
12:11 the ability to force choke just about any character in the game, except for one.
12:15 Have one player set to Vader and the other set to Padme Geonosis, and you'll
12:21 notice that Vader cannot use his powers on her. Yet he can force choke regular
12:26 Padme and quad Padme. Was this to signify his still burning love for her? We'd like
12:32 to believe so. Still, doesn't make sense that you can force choke two Padmes and
12:37 not the third. Maybe a bug? Who knows?
12:42 Hmmmms. Now this one kind of threw us for a loop. If you stuck around during the
12:53 credits for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, you'll hear an old tune that served as
12:57 the theme song to the first official Marvel fan club, the Merry Marvel Marching
13:02 Society. A cute homage to Marvel Comics of the old days, but the most peculiar
13:12 inclusion of this song is if you have the game installed on your PlayStation 5.
13:17 When highlighted on the cross media bar, the same song will begin playing on loop.
13:22 Not exactly the kind of song we'd expect upon setting up the game, but still
13:27 nostalgic for the older Marvel fans.
13:35 World Brick 1. Chances are you know exactly what we're talking about here. A
13:49 big big reason why you must play LEGO City Undercover on Wii U or Switch is
13:54 because those versions feature special Easter eggs and puzzles based on Super
13:59 Mario. You can find a Wiggler above a train tunnel, use a Bob-omb as part of a
14:04 puzzle, climb to the top of a flagpole, and even build superstars scattered
14:08 across the map. We may never get an official LEGO Mario video game, but this
14:13 is definitely the next best thing. Did you enjoy this video? Check out some of
14:21 our other LEGO content here on Mojo Plays, and don't forget to subscribe for
