00:00 If we read the Shilalik of Emperor Ashoka in Brahmi Lipi,
00:04 it does not say "No" in it,
00:06 but it says that you should not fall into the trap of doing such a thing.
00:11 It looks like a Dharma Chakra, a Shiva, a Bodhi tree.
00:15 It represents the Hinayana phase of the beginning of Buddhism.
00:20 It is a kind of a Narabhakti king,
00:22 and how his mind is transformed by the efforts of the Bodhisattva,
00:27 and he improves.
00:29 This is the story of that.
00:30 The journey of the star or the end of the star
00:33 was done in the western coast of the country, in January.

02:18 The month of Shravan is generally started with festivals and festivals.
02:24 We do a lot of religious rituals in this month.
02:27 If we read the Shilalekha of King Ashoka in Brahmi Lipi,
02:32 we can see that King Ashoka has not mentioned any of these religious rituals.
02:39 But he has said that we should not fall into the trap of such rituals.
02:43 So, what should we do?
02:44 He has said that we should follow the path of good conduct.
02:48 This path of good conduct is the path of Arya Ashtangika,
02:52 which is the path that was told to us by Gautam Buddha.
02:54 We can see its reflection in this Shilalekha.
02:59 In this part of the video, we will understand the art and heritage of Maharashtra
03:07 in the Buddhist section of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangram.
03:13 When the Buddhist tradition and history is mentioned in Maharashtra,
03:19 one important reference is mentioned, and that is the Pavani.
03:23 In Maharashtra, the Pavani is a place where the ancient Buddhist stupa was found.
03:30 We are standing near the Vedika stupa of the Pavani.
03:36 The stupa of the Pavani is related to Mumbai.
03:41 There is a very important reference in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangram.
03:44 We will discuss this in detail in another video.
03:47 The stupa of the Pavani is a very important reference in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangram.
03:54 We will understand the Buddhist tradition of Maharashtra.
03:59 Dr. Aparna Bhogal is here to give us more information about the stupa.
04:09 This is the stupa of the Pavani in Bhandara district.
04:14 It is a part of the Vedika stupa found in the ancient Buddhist tradition.
04:20 Here we can see a dharma chakra, a stupa, and a Bodhi tree.
04:27 It represents the Hinayana phase of the beginning of Buddhism,
04:33 where the Buddha was worshipped in the form of these symbols.
04:38 The people depicted here are a Dada and his wife.
04:44 There is an inscription on the stupa of the Pavani,
04:49 which says, "Nagasa Pachanikai Kasa".
04:52 This means that the person named Naga was one of the five holy texts in the Buddhist tradition.
05:09 He donated this stupa for the sake of the Vedika stupa.
05:13 There is a village called Boudha Lane in Mumbai and Boudha Parampara.
05:22 There are 110 lanes in Boudha Lane.
05:29 There is a small part of the stupa that we call the Duravasi,
05:37 which is a part of the Jataka.
05:43 Dr. Akarna will tell us more about this.
05:47 This is a part of the Jataka, which is a part of the Mahasutras.
05:51 There is a king named Narabhakshi,
05:55 who tries to change his mind through the efforts of Buddhism.
06:00 He improves his mind.
06:02 This is a small episode of that story.
06:07 As you know, the story of the birth of Lord Buddha is famous.
06:14 Similarly, the story of his previous life is known as the Jataka.
06:20 If you have been to Ajanta, you can see it in his Bhitti films.
06:26 This is a similar example of the Jataka.
06:30 This is a part of the symmetry in Kaneri.
06:34 There are many monuments in this area.
06:39 There are many Buddhist statues buried in Kaneri.
06:45 There are many monuments of the stupa.
06:48 This is a part of that.
06:50 When we go from Kaneri, there are 2-3 big lanes in the south of Kaneri.
06:57 When we go there, we come across a school.
07:03 We can see 64 small stupas of 64 different sizes.
07:08 There is a big stupa in the area of those stupas.
07:12 We can see a small part of that stupa here.
07:17 This is the famous Abha-Ana-Samsodha Ghegra of Durga.
07:23 It is called BARC in English.
07:26 This is the place where the thread was found.
07:29 This thread was known as the power of the Gautama Buddha.
07:34 The sculptures of this thread can be seen in all directions.
07:44 There was a famous sculptor named Dr. Madhukar Kishore Dhaulikar.
07:49 The research done by Dr. Kishore Dhaulikar says that the thread was found in the west coast of Jaipur.
08:02 This thread is very important for us.
08:07 It was found at the place of BARC.
08:10 Let's understand this from Dr. Aparna.
08:15 This thread is found in Mumbai.
08:21 It represents the ancient Indian style.
08:26 In the 9th-10th century, the Pala Rajya dynasty was ruling in Bengal-Bihar.
08:34 The Rajya dynasty has given great support to Buddhism.
08:39 This is a very good statue to represent that.
08:44 We have understood the Buddhist gallery in two parts.
08:50 You have also helped us understand it.
08:54 We have also understood that this gallery is not a work of one or two people.
09:03 There are three people who work in it.
09:05 Who is important in this?
09:08 First of all, our Director General, Mahasanchalak Shri Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
09:16 We have the statues of Buddhism in the gallery.
09:26 We have made a different statue and are making different ornaments for different religions.
09:44 Himanshu Prabhare has also worked hard for this gallery as a curator.
09:49 It is a team work. We have a team of museum staff.
09:57 We have specialists for lighting, designers, curators, and other staff.
10:07 Everyone has worked very hard to make this gallery stand in time.
10:14 We are very grateful to everyone for this.
10:16 We are very grateful to you for coming to the museum and giving us this opportunity.
10:25 The director of this gallery is Asha Vasadpase.
10:33 Let us talk to her.
10:36 I am now 88 years old.
10:39 I was thinking that I should leave something behind.
10:45 This museum has given me a lot of knowledge.
10:48 In the old days, when I came from Uttar Pradesh, this was the only place I could come and study and sit down in the library.
10:58 So I wanted to give something back to it.
11:00 So I had a talk with Mr. Mukherjee and he said, "Well, there is a small space which we can provide."
11:06 I was told that the museum has a very fine collection of Buddhist art.
11:11 So I said, "Well, why not we do it?"
11:13 I said, "I will give the money and I will donate it very happily."
11:19 So I did that and it took about two years.
11:23 I wanted to have the best people to come and do this.
11:27 You know, the best sound man, the best electric person, the best...
11:31 But the museum had the talent.
11:33 So they did it here and it has come out very well.
11:37 And I am very happy.
11:39 I am very happy.
11:44 (Laughs)
11:46 I used to work in East UP.
11:52 It's been a long time. I am talking about 1960.
11:56 So I went to the place where the Department of Archaeology was excavating.
12:03 The Shuddhodan Palace.
12:05 The palace of the father of Mahatma Buddha.
12:09 It was on the Nepal border.
12:11 Lubbani was very close.
12:13 So I went to Lubbani.
12:15 And I saw the excavation there.
12:18 And I didn't understand how lucky I was to come here.
12:27 Then I went to a temple with the female principal of the school.
12:35 It was of Mahamaya.
12:37 And it was of the Mauryan period.
12:40 So it was of red stone.
12:42 And it was a very nice temple.
12:44 And Mahamaya Devi was inside.
12:48 And the villagers had applied a lot of vermillion.
12:52 Like a Goddess.
12:54 They didn't know that she was the mother of Buddha.
12:57 So they called her Devi.
12:59 After that, when I came here to Mumbai.
13:01 Later.
13:03 I used to come here to study in the museum.
13:05 I found out that there is a very nice collection here.
13:09 I had never shown it to anyone.
13:11 Then I saw it.
13:13 And I read about it.
13:15 Then I said that we should make a gallery of it.
13:17 So I decided at that time.
13:19 That when I get old.
13:21 We will do something for it.
13:23 For the younger generation.
13:25 So this is how I came up with it.
13:27 And it worked.
13:29 I am very happy.
13:31 So friends, in the last two parts.
13:35 We stayed in Mumbai.
13:37 And explored the ancient India.
13:39 And especially the history of the Buddha temple.
13:41 We explored it from Mumbai.
13:43 It was very important.
13:45 That Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum.
13:47 Started this Buddhist collection.
13:49 And through this.
13:51 We not only explored the Indian tradition.
13:53 But also the history of the temple.
13:55 And we explored the history of the temple.
13:57 And we explored the history of the temple.
13:59 And if we did not explore the Indian tradition.
14:01 Then in this part of the video.
14:03 We explored the Buddhist tradition of Mumbai.
14:05 In a different way.
14:07 We will explore the ancient Mumbai.
14:09 In a different way.
14:11 For that.
14:13 Keep watching.
14:15 Lok Satta Live YouTube channel.
14:17 Like, share.
14:19 And discuss with your friends.
