00:00 Hello there, Lee Sobot at the Yorkshire Evening Post here from Ellen Road where Leeds United's
00:08 clash against West Bromwich Albion has ended in a 1-1 draw and a bit of a common theme
00:12 continuing really with Leeds. Well, more than one common theme to be honest. Another comeback,
00:17 not for the first time this season and another load of chances created and missed. It has
00:22 to be said that wasn't the case last week at Birmingham City at all where Leeds were
00:26 pretty awful in all truth. But we have seen from this team, not just this season but in
00:30 previous seasons, the habit of creating lots of chances and not scoring them and that's
00:34 basically what tonight came down to. It probably tells you the story that a defender in Luke
00:39 Ayling was the man who got the goal for Leeds to make it 1-1 after trailing to what was
00:44 West Brom's only second attempt on goal fairly early in the second half and their first one
00:50 was only kept out due to a fantastic save from Elan Mellier to tip the ball onto the post.
00:56 They scored soon after though from the second of two corners that followed that save. Leeds
01:01 just not clearing the lines, the ball shot from the box, basically came off Brandon Thomas
01:06 of Sante. It was a threat all game before going off. It did look like it came off his
01:09 hand a little bit so maybe, I don't know VAR, what happened there but the goal was given
01:14 and Leeds obviously facing an uphill battle but continued to create chances and in the
01:19 end Dan James was excellent tonight but it has to be said he missed a sitter basically
01:23 to score for Leeds in front of goal where he somehow bundled it wide but he was a real
01:27 threat all game, probably just about Leeds' best player, certainly attackingly anyway.
01:32 It was him with the cross from the left-hand side, great cross to the far post and Ayling
01:35 arrived with a brilliant header, not too dissimilar to Liam Cooper's actually in the opening game
01:39 of the season to make it 1-1.
01:41 I mean, Nellon Road erupted and there was still plenty of time left for a winner and
01:44 he kind of thought that West Brom might crumble then but they dug in and sort of survived
01:48 the storm. Actually, they were doing most of the pressing in seven minutes of injury
01:52 time. Then right at the end, Leeds did have a chance for a Gio Junior routier, shot from
01:56 the edge of the box but just sort of squirmed wide. It was a decent enough chance really
02:00 and that's basically what this is coming down to at the moment. I thought Leeds looked pretty
02:04 good defensively, notwithstanding the fact they conceded obviously. Joe Road on a very
02:07 solid debut, Sam Byron's looking a good acquisition, Ethan Ampadu solid as a rock in midfield,
02:12 very composed but this team just need more up front, quite simply, in the final third
02:17 across all four positions. With less than two weeks to the window left, I think that's
02:22 what it's going to come down to, how Leeds do in this division ultimately. Routier tried
02:25 his best to lead the line but Leeds need more than that. Obviously, they've got lots of
02:28 injuries but we don't know who's going to be here. Obviously, Monto didn't play, Sinisterra.
02:33 So, lots to see what happens and Ayling admitted himself post-match that he can't wait for
02:38 the window to close so he knows what Leeds have got. Daniel Farker will feel the same
02:42 way, Leeds United supporters will feel the same way. They've got another point here,
02:46 it's 1-1, it's only two points out of nine. On to Ipswich next, again that'll be a difficult
02:50 game, they've started well. Daniel did say it'd be a bumpy start, it's proven that way
02:54 but at least they didn't get beat. It's finished, Leeds United 1, West Brom 1, the wait for
02:58 a win continues.
