00:00 Hello there, Lee Sobert at the Yorkshire Evening Post here from Hillsborough at Sheffield Wednesday FC
00:06 where Leeds United have recorded yet another victory with a 2-0 success against the Owls.
00:12 A victory that put them back into the Championship's automatic promotion spots.
00:16 This obviously coming ahead of everybody else playing at the weekend and obviously a chance for Ipswich
00:20 to go back above them on Saturday when they play Cardiff.
00:24 But Leeds did what was needed of them here in a real intense battle obviously
00:29 for automatic promotion and in the end a game that looked like it was very, very tricky.
00:34 It was tricky all the way through. Leeds were now 2-0 winners and in the end probably could and should have
00:39 had a third and maybe a fourth in the end but that's notwithstanding how tough it was at the start
00:43 because it looked very much as if the game was going to be goalless at the interval.
00:47 There were plenty of boos around Hillsborough as Leeds went ahead in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time
00:52 through Patrick Bamford. That was after four minutes added time were announced so obviously
00:56 a lot of grumbles here about that but that was a fabulous goal.
01:00 Junior Firpo with the cross from the left flank. He had a very tough first half in terms of causing
01:05 quite a few problems defensively but then gets forward and comes up with another assist.
01:09 He's really racking up the assists for a left-back since he's come back into the side.
01:13 Cross through the box, Bamford arriving at the far post for a real striker play to arrive on time
01:18 and an easy finish really. His movement was the key there. 1-0 at the break. That really did change
01:22 everything I felt because obviously on Chef Wednesday they've got to come out and battle
01:25 and got to try and go for it and get back into the game. To be fair, they were having a go anyway.
01:29 They were causing problems in the first half and as I say it was looking very, very difficult.
01:33 But Leeds then doubled their lead through Willy Nonto and that was a really smart goal.
01:38 It's got to be said that Patrick Bamford, although he won't even get the assist for that one,
01:41 superb hold-up play from him. We've always said how good he is at his hold-up play and that was
01:46 absolutely exemplified with what he did there. Just the control on the ball and his chest,
01:50 really strong play. He played it out to Routier who fed Nonto to make it 2-0.
01:55 That kind of felt like game over. It never is really at 2-0 and Wednesday did threaten and had a few chances,
02:00 especially if we set pieces and whatnot. But Leeds held firm and as I say they could have had a third.
02:05 There was other chances for them in the end. 2-0 was enough. It's a staggering run, really.
02:10 Leeds have been on. When you think about it, the points tally they're on now, the number of wins they've had
02:14 and even that was needed tonight just to put them back into the top two. You get the sense this really
02:18 will go right down to the wire. Very, very likely going to be looking at record points totals this season,
02:24 probably in terms of what it is to win the division and also to get automatic promotion.
02:28 The record is 93 and Leeds are on course for more than that at the moment, but so too are Ipswich.
02:33 Also, it will have helped the goal difference this evening too. Very, very tough game. Tough ask.
02:38 Obviously, they've had a demanding schedule. The game's coming thick and fast and they have now got,
02:42 I think it's nine days off until they play Millwall at home. So that will obviously help.
02:45 I think Daniel Farquhar has asked how he'd celebrate and he said sofa, coffee and cake.
02:49 I mean, that's fair enough. I think he deserves that. The fans in the away home were singing his name at the end.
02:54 A very, very difficult Yorkshire derby. Leeds have got the job done. Sheffield Wednesday 0-0. Leeds United 2-0.
