00:43 Welcome to Lok Satta Online's special episode of Gosht Asamandnen
00:49 Friends, as they say, if you have the willpower and the willingness to work hard, anything is possible
00:56 One example of this is my badminton team's coach and coordinator Manohar Godse
01:02 Manohar Godse has done great work at the national and international level
01:08 But he did not stop here
01:10 At the age of 56, he started Manohar Academy
01:13 At the age of 18, he started a competition for children
01:17 Let's find out how he got the invitation to start the academy while he was not financially stable
01:23 My name is Manohar Godse
01:26 I was born in a village called Varsai, near Penn
01:31 I studied there till 4th standard
01:35 I moved to Mumbai, where I live now
01:38 I came here when I was 50
01:43 I did not know what badminton was
01:48 I did not even know the word badminton
01:51 I used to play cricket with my friends
02:00 I did not feel badminton was a sport
02:05 But I started feeling that it was a sport
02:11 I did not feel badminton was a sport
02:23 I remember the first game I played
02:28 We had a wooden bat in the building
02:33 We made a table tennis-shaped wooden bat
02:40 We used to play and have fun
02:43 I remember the first time I played indoor
02:50 I was 20 years old
02:53 I started working at Premier Automobile at the age of 19.5
02:58 Someone told me that they have a court here
03:03 I asked why I did not come
03:05 I told them that I had a habit of playing outdoors
03:10 I had a lot of control over the wind
03:13 I had to have a natural skill to control the wind
03:22 I had to know how to adjust to the wind
03:25 I did not have any wind here
03:28 I had to use the Marley shuttle
03:30 I started playing outdoors
03:35 I did not play after that
03:38 I had to do something for my education
03:45 I had to get a half-hour concession from the Premier
03:49 I tried my best but could not get it
03:54 I tried my best to get a half-hour concession
04:06 I had to take out the name I had taken for commercial art
04:12 One fine day in the evening
04:16 I realized that I could not do anything
04:20 I decided to try for badminton
04:25 I did not have any real goal
04:29 I wanted to do something
04:31 I was in an association
04:34 I knew that I wanted to do something individually
04:40 Whether I take support of them or I do not take support of them
04:44 I wanted to establish something
04:47 I wanted to have a firm footing
04:50 I had a partner in the association
04:56 She was a public prosecutor
04:59 I told her that I wanted to make a membership
05:05 I had kept the nominal amount in Rs. 150
05:08 I told her that I wanted to make a membership
05:11 And among the children we will organize tournaments
05:14 I had a plan
05:17 I think that various clubs will give me a free two-day court
05:25 Before the association started
05:30 I had played badminton at a good level
05:34 I was accepted in the crowd
05:38 I was getting a lot of yes in coaching
05:41 I became a district champion
05:44 I became an inter-school champion, a school champion, a district champion
05:48 I became a state champion, a national champion
05:52 I played for India
05:55 I was feeling that I could do something
05:58 I got a lot of help from the clinic of a playwright
06:07 While playing, we used to copy and try to get 5%
06:14 But when they told us how to do coaching
06:19 We got a different vision
06:22 We started to understand that we were doing it
06:25 We were copying it
06:28 We wanted to do something for the children
06:33 We were playing with the veterans
06:37 We wanted to do something for the children
06:40 The first tournament we did was under 10, 13 and under 16
06:45 We did it in a group like this
06:48 Under 10, there was no national team
06:51 But I wanted to play with the children
06:54 I knew that I could get them now
06:57 I thought that people would give me a quota for 2 days
07:06 Believe it or not, I have not given any money to anyone yet
07:13 We have done 111 tournaments
07:16 But I have not given any money to anyone
07:19 I am surprised and also proud that people like NSCI told me
07:26 Do you know Ghotse?
07:28 We are charging 65,000 rupees for corporates between 12 and 4
07:36 We gave them a 4 hour reservation for 3 quotes
07:40 We are charging 65,000
07:42 We are giving you 2 days 10 to 8 free of charge
07:47 We are giving it from above because we know that you are doing it only for the children
07:53 We are not charging you for it
07:57 Even after 25 years, our membership is only 51 rupees
08:05 Is it legal or not?
08:07 I have named it as Academy
08:11 But why is it generally accepted that you have a place where you train the children
08:21 I am training them
08:24 But I did not have any possibility here
08:27 Because if someone had told me that they will give me a 4 day reservation
08:35 I would have never thought of getting it
08:40 If they had told me that they will give me a reservation, I would have never thought of getting it
08:45 So I ruled out all of that
08:48 What will I do? This is not possible, I cannot do this
08:51 So what will I do?
08:53 I knew that because I played myself
08:56 That you will be the king in practice
08:59 But during the tournament, everything should be going on
09:04 Your head should be moving, your hands and feet should be moving, everything should be moving
09:08 Stokes should be moving
09:10 You improve only because of the tournament practice
09:13 We can do that much
09:15 As it is, I am not able to do anything, why not try this
09:18 So I thought of it and I did it
09:21 And I got the support of the clubs
09:24 How many clubs?
09:26 CCI, NSEI gave me a lot of money
09:29 North Indian Association
09:31 Then Dadoji in Thane, in the stadium
09:34 Shrikant Vandini helped me a lot
09:37 We have started 8 tournaments there
09:40 So all of that support
09:43 Even though I was a little bit limited
09:47 But everyone's support was tremendous
09:50 That's why I did it, no one said no until now
09:53 I was playing live
09:56 I used to ask Nandu, because I used to watch his matches
09:59 And we used to get mesmerized
10:02 Such a clean game
10:05 How is he playing?
10:07 No one told me
10:10 Because he was so at ease
10:13 You don't feel like you are playing
10:16 And when I played with him live
10:19 I used to understand that it is very difficult to play
10:22 It looks so easy, but it is not so easy
10:25 I used to ask Nandu what we should do
10:28 He said nothing, you just write from the beginning
10:31 Watch the service
10:34 We used to do the same
10:37 We didn't have a choice
10:40 We used to watch, we used to feel like we should copy at least 10%
10:43 He said that and he has answered
10:46 Because he gives one or two examples
10:49 There was a girl named Simran Singhi
10:52 She started playing from 5.5 years
10:55 And she used to bring Manoj Ramchandra
10:58 Manoj's son used to come to us
11:01 And he used to play very nice
11:04 He used to bring Manoj
11:07 And every time she lost the first round
11:10 She used to cry
11:13 She used to get so much of pain
11:16 I don't remember how many times I have told her
11:19 I have told her at least 20 times
11:22 Or some other boys who play well in the semi-final
11:25 They play very well
11:28 I am surprised how they play at this age
11:31 And she lost
11:34 But she did this
11:37 And now when she wins
11:40 She started winning nationals
11:43 She started playing at that level
11:46 She started playing from India
11:49 I feel very good
11:52 I won for Chirag
11:55 I sent a congratulatory message to her father
11:58 And I sent it to Chirag too
12:01 Her father replied immediately
12:04 Sir, you also have little contribution in this
12:07 I feel good even if he says this much
12:10 To be honest
12:13 I have been a committee member for so many years
12:16 I have been a committee member for so many years
12:19 I have not been to the Greater Mumbai Badminton Association
12:22 I have not been to the Badminton Association
12:25 I have not been to the Badminton Association
12:28 And now when I see others
12:31 I feel what they have done
12:34 The only choice is
12:37 To make him a member of the team
12:40 Or he will be
12:43 But membership is so difficult
12:46 If there are 1 or 2 boys
12:49 They don't know how to take so many members
12:52 And the other one is not available
12:55 So what do they do?
12:58 They start private coaching
13:01 If they have made a reservation
13:04 They will have a court in their name
13:07 Or they will have a meeting
13:10 So the boys start coming and doing this
13:13 But it is very very difficult
13:16 I have a good example
13:19 The district Badminton Association
13:22 The district Badminton Association
13:25 They have established
13:28 They have worked hard for so many years
13:31 And they have reached so far
13:34 They have achieved success
13:37 Many people have done this
13:40 When I was a member of the Ekna Chindhan Association
13:43 I met 2-3 boys
13:46 They did not know me
13:49 So I said so and so
13:52 They said this boy has played with us for so long
13:55 After playing so many tournaments
13:58 People started feeling
14:01 These people, Manohar at least is providing opportunity
14:04 I used to ask some people
14:07 You come from so far, from New Bombay
14:10 Or from Nashik or Dombivli
14:13 When I ask people
14:16 Their parents say you know
14:19 You come, you feel you should play
14:22 What do they say?
14:25 But sir, who else is creating opportunities for our children
14:28 We want to grab
14:31 Whenever you provide opportunity
14:34 We want to grab that
14:37 There is a solution to this
14:40 First, hard work
14:43 Hard work means
14:46 You should work hard
14:49 With dedication
14:52 And not just the dedication of the boy
14:55 But the coach should also have equal dedication
14:58 And continuous effort
15:01 Then only it will be produced
15:04 I will give one example
15:07 Amol Shah was national champion
15:10 And we knew it, Nandu had sent him to me
15:13 So for 8-9 years
15:16 I used to play with him
15:19 One of my team members
15:22 Or another one of my team members
15:25 And we used to do this for Amol
15:28 And we used to do so much rigorous on the court
15:31 At times I used to feel
15:34 Will Amol's chest break after so many smashes
15:37 Because we have never done this in our life
15:40 So we never imagined this
15:43 But when the Indonesians came here
15:46 And I was their Lysen office
15:49 So I took Amol
15:52 And played with his stick
15:55 And played
15:58 And when Amol got out
16:01 I was their coach
16:04 I asked him what he does
16:07 He said he does morning training
16:10 And afternoon stroke practice
16:13 Stroke practice means how?
16:16 He said he does limb shrinking
16:19 So we both feed him shuttle
16:22 One here and one there
16:25 He should know where to tap
16:28 He should have done this
16:31 So he gives 6 and 6 shuttle 8 times
16:34 Varatish and no
16:37 And there are 8 repetitions
16:40 I said 800 smashes
16:43 And when Amol did 150 smashes
16:46 I used to feel
16:49 I couldn't really imagine
16:52 Anybody doing 800
16:55 But at an individual level
16:58 When you feel like doing this
17:01 Or you have to do this
17:04 If you don't have the support of your family
17:07 What can you do?
17:10 My son
17:13 He has to do some things on the computer
17:16 Which I am not able to do
17:19 Beyond particular
17:22 I don't have the knowledge
17:25 I have to take it
17:28 He does that, otherwise it's not possible
17:31 So if I do this, I need the support of my family
17:34 And my friends are here
17:37 My friends created an opportunity
17:40 There are people who have come and helped me out
17:43 And clubs
17:46 I have hats off to these clubs
17:49 If they had started charging
17:52 It would have been commercial
17:55 I would have also earned money
17:58 I would have seen it
18:01 But nothing like that happened
18:04 We don't worry about that
18:07 We are happy
18:10 Manohar Godse's enthusiasm for youth
18:13 Is a great example
