00:00 Friday, September 1, 2023. The countdown to the start of the new school year narrows out
00:23 with concerned ministries on a permanent watch. Godly schools are already receiving Form 1
00:29 students and business persons multiplying strategies to make great profit this season.
00:36 Elecam announces a bountiful harvest in their last crusade for new potential voters to be
00:42 registered on electoral lists. Statistics talk of close to 400,000 newly registered.
00:50 Plus the Lord Giver, the Lord Ticket, the first ever woman minister Rose Zangele, another
00:56 Jean Marie Bipungwu Maniswai, Marie Thérèse Bipungwu begin their journey to eternity today.
01:03 Those are our top stories. I am Benin Bumagana. This is the 730 News.
01:12 Let's start with pressing matters and we talk back to school. As the start of the new school
01:16 year beckons on us, the ministries of secondary education and basic education have been keeping
01:22 watch to ensure that back to school 2023-2024 scores high. CRTVC 1A Paulette visited these
01:29 ministries to see what work is being done. He brought back this report.
01:35 As far as preparedness is concerned for back to school, the ministry of basic education
01:40 is more than 95% already. According to the inspector general of services in Minidube,
01:46 they sent out the official book list that will be used in the 2023-2024 school year
01:53 and a calendar giving the details of activities in schools for the three terms that make up
01:58 the school year.
02:04 About 5 million people are expected to start classes. Last year we had over 4 million people
02:10 with the teaching staff of 113,000 for 13,258 public schools, 8,238 private schools in the
02:20 country. The minister of basic education chaired consultation meetings with stakeholders of
02:25 private primary schools in order to resolve the problem of teacher salary situation in
02:30 respect of the labor code. Officials of the central and devolved services of the ministry
02:36 also elaborated an action plan for a history school year. Meanwhile, officials in the secondary
02:44 education sector have also given assurances confirming that all is set for the start and
02:51 success of the upcoming school year.
02:58 This last week helped to finalize our preparations. We work with regional delegation informing
03:05 them on the minister's instructions concerning pedagogy at the level of administrative services.
03:16 Parents and students are flooding the market making last minute preparations as no one
03:23 wants to be left behind.
03:27 With the closing hours, the resumption of classes for the next school year, travel agencies
03:32 keep receiving a huge number of travelers moving to other cities for the same purpose.
03:37 The long queues of travelers with luggage have taken over travel agencies as the proprietors
03:43 now have the herculean task to ensure the security and safety of persons and goods all
03:48 through these journeys. Gerard Nnangie Ayambe brings pictures and sounds from these travel
03:54 agencies.
03:55 The safety and security of passengers remain a top priority to most travel agencies in
04:02 the nation's capital, especially during this eve of back to school.
04:07 We make sure that all the buses are well controlled. They will make sure that the drivers are not
04:13 taking any alcohol before they go on the highway. All the buses are not overloaded. We respect
04:18 the normal loading and we respect the timing. That's 70 to 90 kilometers per hour.
04:24 All those are programmed to travel. They have rest well. And then those that are coming
04:29 from Douala, when they arrive, they go to rest and the one of Yaounde, they take over.
04:35 Also the mechanical state of the buses before every departure is given attention.
04:40 We actually check the level of the gas. After that we remove the filter, blow it, make sure
04:47 that all things are ok before the mouth kicks.
04:49 For their part, the passengers have some considerations before boarding a bus.
04:55 You enter the bus, they will tell you to wear your seatbelt. The luggages here are very
04:59 secured because they pack these luggages.
05:02 We have bodyguards, we have people carrying our bags, we have people on the bus to take
05:06 care of us like flight attendants.
05:08 All this is to ensure that passengers arrive at their different destinations safe and sound.
05:16 We wish them a safe journey indeed. In Yaounde, most boarding schools have started receiving
05:21 Form 1 students and those in examination classes. Other schools say they will open their doors
05:26 tomorrow Saturday to welcome new learners.
05:29 Sincha Saptala prepared this report after touring some schools in Yaounde.
05:36 Friday, September 1st and it's day one for Form 1 students at this Baptist boarding school.
05:42 The campus gradually gained its first occupants, most of whom seemed apprehensive of the change
05:48 in environment.
05:49 The new students have to undergo some orientation. They should know the campus, they see the
05:56 campus, they see what it entails. We are going to present the daily routine to them, we are
06:02 going to present the academic program to them, we are going to present the rules and regulations.
06:10 Trunks, boxes and mattresses brought in by students were first and foremost taken through
06:15 a compulsory check before heading to their respective dormitories.
06:20 Sometimes I'm nervous because I think school is going to be strong for me but as I came
06:26 here I feel good and I feel nice. I'm happy to see my friends this year again.
06:31 At other boarding schools, Saturday, Form 1, lower-seats and newcomers are expected
06:37 from 8am. This Friday, the teaching staff were wrapping up preparations in a meeting.
06:43 We had the campus disinfected, do all the necessary repairs of benches, beds and all
06:50 what is required to keep the children comfortable.
06:53 Teachers will be given their individual timetables. There will be appointments of the class masters
06:58 and mistresses for the various classes.
07:01 At 5pm, the gates will be closed for the first occupants of boarding life. Distractions
07:07 have been left behind in order to concentrate in this academic year.
07:13 It is indeed a busy period. Parents and guardians can be seen moving from one bookstore, bookshop
07:19 to another, trying to get the last minute, get items at the last minute before the kids
07:24 go back to school.
07:26 Journalism student Leila Benyalla brings the ambience from some markets downtown and
07:31 pieced together the following report.
07:35 Every tick-tock of the clock indicates they are running out of time to prepare for school
07:39 resumption. It is a hassle at the Yaounde Central Market with parents moving helter-skelter
07:46 trying to purchase the last school needs for their children.
07:51 I came today in particular to buy school materials for my kids because they just returned home
07:57 from the holiday. I prefer that they should be present so that they choose their colors
08:03 and school bags personally.
08:10 I don't think it is already the last minute. I still have two more days to Monday. I'm
08:16 however only buying now because I've been economizing money to meet up with my children's
08:22 school needs.
08:23 Vendors of didactic material tend to have the upper hand and make earnest profit in
08:29 times like this.
08:31 The rhythm of buying in my shop has increased. Customers have been stopping by recently.
08:38 Despite the wait of last minute buying, most parents say they will always find a means
08:43 to provide for their children's school needs. Come what may.
08:47 Over in the Northwest Region, administrative and municipal officials in Bamenda Tomb are
08:53 out on a campaign to show that all kids, especially those with disabilities, resume school on
08:59 Monday. The Mayor of the area, Peter Chenui, who has applauded the people for their resilience
09:05 and collaboration, has offered didactic materials to school children in the municipality.
09:10 Mayor Bill Mkemdi-Sakkem reports.
09:14 Many parents and school children alike are clamoring for an effective return to classes
09:19 in Bamenda Tomb's subdivision. The Mayor of Bamenda Tomb, whose council is championing
09:24 the cause in the area that has seen many of its academic institutions closed due to the
09:30 sociopolitical unrest, is re-echoing the importance of education to the people.
09:35 It is high time for the council to encourage those with disabilities to come back to go
09:39 to school. Today I'm happy that the turnout is very encouraging to tell you that the people
09:44 in this region want to go to school. We must sustain our only company in our region which
09:48 is education.
09:50 Children of persons with disabilities and those from other less privileged homes are
09:54 the prime targets of the material support from Bamenda Tomb Council.
09:59 I'm really grateful to what Bamenda Tomb Council has done for us because this is our
10:05 cry. We want our children to go to school. They have given us exercise books, pens.
10:11 Some 103 youths in Bamenda Tomb's subdivision who benefited from holiday jobs under the
10:17 North West Regional Assembly's PE's and Development Initiative have also received
10:22 the gifts from the council. Trash cans and other hygiene materials were also distributed
10:27 to health centres and schools in the area.
10:32 Teachers and other stakeholders in the education sector in the West Region have been called
10:36 upon to work hand in glove with forces of law and order to ensure that a smooth, free
10:42 start of the school year 2023-2024. It was also called by West Governor Awafunka Augustine
10:48 during the 2023 Sectoral Conference of the West Regional Delegation of Secondary Education.
10:55 Chancellor Nancy reports.
10:59 The performance of the West Region at official exams went from 66.23% in 2022 to 71.71% in
11:10 2023 with an increase of 5.48%. The overall national best candidate of the BEPSE exam
11:19 came from GBHS Gwasha in the Mifi Resort. West Governor Awafunka Augustine has said
11:26 should be maintained or bettered.
11:28 "They should work with the other stakeholders because today we have several other challenges
11:34 such as security and they cannot handle it alone so they need to collaborate with the
11:40 forces of law and order and the state authorities so that together we can provide a serene atmosphere
11:47 and environment for better results."
11:49 The regional delegation plans to implement the recommendations made by the Minister
11:54 of Secondary Education in order to reach the goals set for this year, among them the effective
12:00 start of classes come Monday.
12:02 "We have to work together with authority, parents to build a clean school as the minister
12:12 of secondary education prescribes discipline, work and collaboration."
12:19 This year, secondary education actors in the West also intend to keep the school environment
12:25 clean, both morally and physically.
12:27 Away from back to school stories, this press release from the Prime Minister's office.
12:35 The director of the Prime Minister's cabinet informs the general public that there is currently
12:40 in circulation, particularly in the social media networks, malicious information about
12:46 an alleged aid foundation of which the head of government is a promoter which would supposedly
12:53 offer support for profitable project leaders in the areas of livestock breeding, agriculture
12:58 and trade.
12:59 It should be known that the Prime Minister head of government condemns this act of misinformation
13:05 and calls on the public to be circumspect in the face of such reprehensible initiatives
13:10 which hide ulterior motives, signed the director of cabinet, Balungeli Confiance, Ebune.

14:00 general of elections noted that all the operations were conducted in an atmosphere of calm,
14:06 discipline, conviviality and commitment of Elecam staff.

14:17 campaigns to get the highest number of potential new voters to register.

14:31 registered, representing an increase of more than 29,000 in 2022.
14:37 Permit me in this regard to express my satisfaction with this positive result.
14:41 I take this opportunity to thank our collaborators on the field whose constant hard work contributed
14:48 to achieve this objective fix.
14:51 I also wish to thank the electoral board for the effective supervision of this operation,
14:57 political parties that mobilize their militant towards registration,
15:02 civil society and the media for their collaboration.

15:12 of voters now has 7,523,184 potential electors.

15:25 The event was presided over by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications and was placed
15:30 under the patronage of the head of state, Paul Bia.
15:32 It was also aimed at promoting the emergence of a multilateral, multi-stakeholder platform
15:37 for exchanges on the challenges of Internet governance and the development of digital
15:42 industry in Cameroon.
15:44 On the recommendations of the forum, Biarri's journalism student, Sandrine Tani.
15:49 A desire to improve on cyber security and promote a healthy use of the Internet in

16:06 strategy on how to attain their digital transformation.
16:09 This forum was about to brainstorm about how the different communities in the world can

16:32 succeed in their numeric evolution ambitions, with Cameroon keen on realising the head of
16:38 state's 2035 Emergence Vision.
16:41 We have a strategic plan in Cameroon, but it cannot be successful if we did not ensure
16:49 that we are interconnected with the other countries.
16:52 It is a key element on the strategy of Cameroon to be an emerging country.
17:00 The Central African Governance Forum also streamlined the protection of the rights and
17:06 privacy of Internet users by uniting forces.

21:49 Professor Joseph Marie Bipinmugum.
21:51 The President of the Constitutional Council, Clement Attanana, described the fallen councillor
21:57 as a seasoned jurist who worked diligently to enhance the rule of law and democracy in
22:03 Cameroon through his judicial competence.
22:07 This was followed by academic honours featuring a good number of university dons.
22:13 He was a very performing lecturer and very conscious about the future of his students.
22:21 Really an example of impartiality, of rigor and justice and equity in our society.
22:27 Referring to him as a pillar in the higher education sector, Minister Jack Famandungu
22:32 said the constitutional law specialist will be remembered for his contribution to the

24:10 Rose Abadaye Somba Zangele was one of the rare women in those days with a ministerial
24:15 portfolio.
24:17 In the late 70s, when few women delved into politics, she served in high positions at
24:23 the Women's Wing of the then ruling party in the Fondé Division and at the national
24:27 level she was first vice president of the Women's Wing of this ruling CPDM party upon
24:33 creation in 1985.
24:36 We got into politics at the same time and fought on all political fronts to implant
24:41 the CPDM to create a reawakening among women.
24:45 She was among the first female leaders to commit to this cause.
24:50 Rose Zangele continued to ascend to the top of the party.
24:54 Member of the CPDM Central Committee since 1990, CPDM parliamentarian in 1992, member

26:23 learners.
26:24 Here is Iran's coach lending his expertise.
26:31 It is in this general excitement of anxiety and anticipation that rehearsals for this
26:37 Saturday's opening ceremony is being made with a major curiosity being Cameroon, a country
26:44 expected to brilliantly represent Africa at the Games.
26:56 The League Formal Holiday Football Championship, the Champions League, has come to a close
27:02 with Durandal Denobita emerging champions after edging Pompuma FC one goal to zero at
27:08 the final of the tournament.

27:22 Region has passed for better days.
27:25 This Holiday Football Championship organized by the Mayor Stanislas Aisi begins first in
27:31 16 villages and the four best teams face each other in what is referred to as a Champions
27:38 League.
27:39 To determine which teams qualify for the final, the two who finally make it this 2023 are
27:46 Durandal Denobita and Pompuma FC.
27:51 I am a happy mayor.
27:53 We have spent over 10 million CFE francs to make the youth and the population happy around
27:59 football.
28:00 Durandal Denobita lifts the trophy after edging Pompuma FC one goal to zero.
28:07 At this fiercely disputed final, the championship has permitted the young, middle-aged and older
28:20 persons to interact freely and showcase their desire to live together notwithstanding what
28:27 part of Cameroon they come from.
28:31 From a League Formal, let's go over to Ebeb Dam.

29:46 This is a young town, a very young town.
29:49 We have here Eton Mangisa and this opportunity permits us to show that we are together and
29:57 we are one and the same country.
30:00 The initiative aimed at promoting living together and multiculturalism was a platform for talent
30:06 detection.
30:07 Over in Douala, the mid-term budget of the Douala 2 Sub-Division has witnessed an increase
30:13 of 1 billion CFF francs with an 85% execution rate.

31:26 It is also of major importance for them to detect cases of cholera and mobilize development
31:31 committees to raise awareness to the population about the dangers of the illness and preventive
31:36 methods.
31:37 The municipal councillors in conviviality are now targeting a more fruitful execution
31:42 of projects for continuous positive outcomes.
