00:00 Launching an aid program to support and rehouse the residents of some 50,000 buildings damaged
00:06 in last week's devastating earthquake.
00:09 That's the latest announcement from the Moroccan government on Thursday evening after the King
00:13 convened a meeting with his ministers.
00:16 The royal office added that those left homeless will be provided with temporary shelter in
00:20 "structures designed to withstand cold and bad weather" or in "reception sites equipped
00:25 with all the necessary amenities."
00:28 However, the exact number of people left without homes by the quake, which has devastated entire
00:34 villages in Morocco's Atlas Mountain region, is yet unknown.
00:38 In the village of Aoufour, residents like Mohamed Zidan organize aid.
00:43 "We use donkeys to transport aid and goods because the roads no longer exist and we live
00:48 in the mountains.
00:49 People were hit hard by the earthquake.
00:52 We live in the open air, we have nothing left."
00:56 Many remote villages find themselves cut off from the rest of the world with no water or
01:00 power.
01:02 "This is the first time people have been forced to live like this, in camps.
01:08 It's an indescribable situation.
01:11 We're hoping for a number of things, starting with the acceleration of reconstruction plans
01:16 so that people can return to a normal life."
01:19 However, while the authorities have officially requested international support from only
01:26 four countries, many human rights NGOs, such as the Red Cross, have mobilized to help the
01:31 victims and survivors.
