TPZ S4 Episode 4- Crossing to the Other World (part 2)
Extrasensory perception (ESP) is one of the paranormal psychic studies in parapsychology. It refers to the reception of information not gained through the recognised physical senses but sensed with the mind and consciousness.
According to parapsychology, each one of us has ESP abilities and some of us are able to develop this ability intensely. With advanced communication devices today like mobile phones, we receive information almost instantly and at any time. We don’t see the wave signals, we don’t see the frequency length, but we believe it is real.
Similarly, mediums act as a ‘device’ to convey messages from the other world. They claim to have a connection to beings/entities that ‘regular’ humans cannot see. Are they for real or just an elaborate hoax?

00:16 Despite that, some of the spirits were not happy with our presence.

03:17 And the god in which she seeks her guidance from is Guan Yin Pousat, goddess of mercy.

03:35 because the Guan Yin Pousat spoke to her to make preparations to make offerings here.

04:34 I thought I was abnormal. I went to see a doctor.
04:37 The doctor explained to me that from the medical point of view,
04:41 no human being would be able to see the other world.
04:44 When I was in my 30s, my mom was injured in a major car accident.
04:48 It was then I vowed to accept myself as someone with special ability
04:53 and that I must use this ability to help others.

04:59 I have the gift of premonition, knowing what may happen in the future.

06:07 I was assigned to a case to look for the body of a person
06:10 who was swept away by a strong wave while fishing.
06:13 My mother was a medium.
06:15 I remembered I called her early in the morning and asked for her help.
06:19 She told me the body was behind me, towards my left.
06:22 I looked at the direction, and it was the shore,
06:24 and for me it was impossible that the body was there.
06:28 We couldn't see it either.
06:30 In the evening during the low tide, we finally found the body.
06:33 It was trapped in between big rocks along the shore
06:36 and at the exact location my mother had told me.

06:48 After coming to Taiwan, I realised that mediums exist in abundance.
06:54 I have met many mediums other than in Taiwan,
06:58 and I'm now wanting to explore the scientific, the psychology behind a medium.
07:06 I had the pleasure of meeting Professor Lisa Chen,
07:10 the former president of National Taiwan University,
07:13 who is also one of the pioneering researchers on parapsychology in Taiwan.
07:18 He has been involved in parapsychology research for 27 years,
07:22 a field of study concerning the investigation of paranormal and psychic phenomena.
07:29 One of your principles is that you do not need to be a medium
07:35 or religious in order to connect with the other world.
07:39 Exactly.
07:40 The phenomenon called ear reading or finger reading,
07:45 it was discovered in mainland China in 1979.
07:49 I tried to prove it because scientific things have to be reproduced
07:55 in different laboratories by different testers, different participants.
08:01 So I started experiments in finger reading camp.
08:04 Up to 2004, I opened about nine-year courses.
08:10 Over 173 children participated in the camp.
08:17 Almost 25% of the children developed this ability.
08:23 Among them, about 20% actually got into very high-level capability.
08:29 In addition to the finger reading, some children start to develop psychokinesis.
08:36 A further step, we print words, numbers on a piece of paper like this.
08:44 We put it into a camera bag, 100% lightproof inside the bag,
08:51 and they hold the sample just like this.
08:55 Then they open a third eye.
08:57 They have to tell the tester everything they saw.
09:01 Then we open the zipper, take out the sample to compare.
09:04 It is interesting to know that everyone has the potential to develop psychic capabilities.

09:18 who is a Doctor of Philosophy in Religious Studies.
09:21 Professor Zhang has done extensive research in parapsychology.
09:25 I have also met Professor Lee, who specialises in experimental and cognitive psychology.
09:31 Both professors agree that seeing things beyond the physical world is not a malfunction of the brain.
09:38 It is when human senses are fully developed that they can connect with the other world.
09:43 We have planned a test for Amy Yeh, the medium we met earlier.
09:48 What kind of test or measurements can a person do, and how will it work?
09:57 These are the traditional ESP cards.
10:01 There are fine designs.
10:03 I will pick a card, and the participant will need to tell me what's on the card.
10:08 We want to understand if she knows the answer by sheer instinct,
10:13 through clairvoyance, recognition or telepathy.
10:18 Professor Zhang, how would you differentiate whether it is instinct, thought?
10:23 How would you be able to distinguish which transmission is happening?
10:30 This is the main point. She has to tell me how she gets the answer.
10:35 For example, by seeing a vision, hearing sounds or through touch.
10:40 At the same time, we will analyse her brainwave and also to see if her answer is correct.

10:56 When you are doing this, what are we expecting to see from the brainwave charts?
11:02 For the past 20 years, we tested mainly on alpha waves in our experiments.
11:08 We have found that if the answers are correct, it is connected to the alpha wave.
11:14 Brainwave research is complicated and there are many methods of analysis.
11:19 Analysing the alpha wave is one of them.
11:22 As what Professor Zhang has explained, the width of the alpha wave gives different explanations.
11:28 For example, when you are concentrating or feeling sleepy,
11:32 the alpha wave width at the back of your brain will increase.
11:38 She got the image correctly.
11:41 I had seen a square and taking the breathing method that Professor Zhang told me,
11:47 which is to inhale and hold the image in my head while holding my breath to project it to her.
11:54 That's what we did and she got the image right. So we are going to try it again.
11:59 During the second test, Amy felt there was something on her right suppressing her.
12:04 She explained that something was blocking her and she felt dizzy.
12:08 After taking a break, Amy continued, but she got only a few answers correct.
12:14 Let's look at Amy's data.
12:21 We break these two sections and analyse the band power.
12:25 The horizontal axis represents different kinds of waves.
12:29 The vertical axis indicates the strength.
12:32 No matter in what position, such as F1 is the forehead, F2, C1, C2, all eight positions,
12:40 there are no difference and we are unable to see a stable alpha wave.
12:45 However, from the statistics, she could get two out of six answers correct.
12:49 It's higher than random guessing. I don't think she is just guessing.
12:54 I think one possibility is Amy was not familiar with how the test was conducted
12:59 and also due to the environment of the lab.
13:02 Through our experience, we find that subjects usually would answer correctly at the beginning of the test.
13:09 You see, during the telepathy session and with Lee Kim sitting opposite her, she got it right the first time.
13:16 When we conduct an experiment, we don't solely judge on the statistics.
13:20 We need to analyse each test differently.
13:23 In my experience, Amy is a case worth further research to find a better way to get more information.
13:29 Amy's ability is yet to be determined because we cannot judge her with just one type of ESP test.
13:36 Nonetheless, I found that she is very sincere and serious in understanding her own ability.
13:42 She has my respect as she doesn't take her gift for granted.
13:46 Another medium came and saw something behind me.

14:18 how do they connect with the other world?
14:21 The first thing is they have to open their third eye.
14:26 Every child will tell you there is a television screen suddenly appearing in their brain.
14:33 And the first they saw the colour, the words or picture appearing on the screen.
14:39 The medium did the same thing.
14:41 Once the third eye opened, they can start to go to the website, go to the other world.
14:49 Because when we did the finger reading experiment, we discovered a very special phenomenon.
14:56 If the words are some religious sacred words, like Buddha, Bodhisattva, Jesus,
15:05 they don't see these words. They see a bright screen, they see a bright person smiling at them, talking to them.
15:15 The whole scene changes.
15:18 Let me clarify. For example, you give the hands in the camera bag
15:25 and you give them a paper with the word Buddha, for example, written on it.
15:31 They will not tell you B-U-D-D-H-A, they actually start to visualise Buddha?
15:37 Yes, they start to see the brighter screen, bright light.
15:41 They don't see these words anymore.
15:44 So we start to know these words are a web address.
15:48 In Taiwan, those who possess special abilities receive special privileges,
15:54 like that of being identified as a demigod.
15:57 People would offer what they could to the mediums to create miracles and fulfil their wishes.
16:02 Sophia is a former medium who had the ability to communicate with the dead
16:07 and also worked as a translator for the gods.
16:10 But at 25, she had given up exercising her psychic gifts. Let's find out why.
16:16 I started being a medium since I was six.
16:20 There's more and more people come to me, so I run the temple since I was 15.
16:25 My motivation is to try to help people, especially some people get sick.
16:30 Or if their family pass away, I would go to their family
16:36 and try to talk to their relatives who pass away, anything they want to say to them.
16:42 I thought I was doing good things, but the problem is sometimes I really receive nothing.

17:07 Sophia still possesses the ability to communicate with beings from the other realms.
17:12 But she does not exploit this ability anymore.
17:15 She prefers to leave the past in the past.
17:18 However, she agrees that people with special gifts do not need to use them for personal gains
17:23 and to receive special treatments.
17:25 Instead, they should channel them in the right way to educate the public.

18:14 And when I relax, a blue light in front of my right side, actually it is behind your left side.
18:21 Something like a very fat, fat person on a lotus.
18:25 And I'm not so sure if I saw a lion.

18:29 Yeah. When I try to see you, and I ask your protector, say,
18:33 "Anything you want to tell to her?" And he say, "It's not necessary,
18:38 because you have your master who will tell you directly."
18:40 I say, "Okay." I just try to help. That's fun.
18:44 Yeah, that's actually very true as well.
18:48 I showed Sophia a picture of my spiritual protector,
18:52 and she said that it was exactly who she saw, the protector present behind me.
18:57 This is the first time a medium is able to see who protects me.
19:01 Sophia has never seen him before, and she didn't know that the protector is Dorje Sugden.
19:07 Even though she confirmed seeing Dorje Sugden,
19:10 I still do want to know more about the results of Sophia's test.
19:15 For Sophia's data, from the video we analysed her medium and conscious states.
19:21 If our previous alpha wave assumption is correct,
19:24 the alpha wave will go up when she is in her medium state.
19:28 The alpha wave will fall when she talks to us.
19:31 Normally, when a person is conscious and talking, the alpha wave is low, close to zero.
19:37 But Sophia's alpha wave remains the same height for both states,
19:41 when she is a medium and when she is talking.
19:44 The possibility is that she was communicating with the other world,
19:48 while she was also communicating with us.
19:52 So what you're saying is, with Sophia's alpha band, there is constant activity even when she's relaxed.
20:00 This shows that she is totally focused with complete concentration.
20:04 The beta and gamma waves will be seen if she created the answers.
20:09 There were no obvious readings of these two waves.
20:12 This shows that Sophia didn't make up any stories,
20:15 but to say what she knows after communicating with the other world.
20:19 If she's talking to a medium, she will translate it directly to speaking.
20:25 It doesn't go through her cognitive process, her own personal thinking process.

20:34 With Amy and Sophia, there was only one type of test conducted on each of them.
20:39 Therefore, for a more conclusive result, various other tests are needed to cross-check and further analyse.
20:46 Nonetheless, with the efforts from Professor Tung and Professor Lee,
20:50 we have a deeper understanding of how the brain biologically reacts to the ability of connecting to the other world.
20:58 You always mention the other world. Where is it?
21:02 In 2014, I published a theory, trying to explain this world.
21:07 We are in the real space-time. There are four dimensions.
21:12 We have a neighbour. The real universe is a complex universe.
21:17 You have the real plus the imaginary.
21:19 All those spiritual spirits are in this spiritual world.
21:25 Once you open your third eye, you can connect to them.
21:29 Throughout this journey in Taiwan, I have experienced from hell to heaven,
21:37 from ghosts to gods, and from unseen beings to brainwave machines.
21:42 Mediums and scientific explanations are the guides for us to understand the other worlds.
21:48 But by solely depending on them with our contemplation and personal responsibility,
21:53 it can become blind faith that wipes away wisdom and logical thinking.
21:58 Apart from the mystical unseen world out there,
22:01 please do not forget the unseen willpower and wisdom in our inner world that play an important role for us to have a better life.
