Li Kim brings the viewers down the memory lane to revisit some of the intriguing topics that the The Paranormal Zone has covered in various countries. Segment one consists of two interesting traditional rituals. In Thailand there is a ritual that requires people to sleep in coffin to change their lucks. In Sabah (Malaysia) there is a ritual of sorcery to create balan-balan, a supernatural being that is in human form during the day but a creature seeking for blood and flesh during the night. Segment two consists of unexplained phenomena. In Yogjakarta (Indonesia), there is a girl name Supiati, a victim who suffers from black magic. Even doctors could not explain the foreign objects retrieved from her body like nails, needles and pins. In Taiwan, we explore ghost marriage and talked to Mr Wu who has a ghost wife. Segment three consists of a few explorations of haunted places like the cemetery in Singapore and the abandoned Nam Hoe Villa in Melaka (Malaysia).

00:00 Since 2012, the Paranormal Zone has brought you stories, research and investigation from
00:07 around Malaysia and also neighbouring countries like Thailand, Indonesia and even Taiwan.
00:13 With the principal objective of giving you information and knowledge on the paranormal,
00:18 there is no doubt that the Paranormal Zone brings you discontent, not without sweat and
00:24 sometimes even tears.
00:26 In fact, there are times when we reach our location, things start to happen.
00:31 Unique things, what I call paranormal things.
00:35 Unfortunately, it was not allowed to be filmed because you just couldn't.
00:40 But it gave us a good indication that we were on the right track at the right place.
00:44 Today I am not going to any venue or location, but I bring you a memorable flashback of episodes
00:53 covered in the last four seasons, which may have changed your life, your view and your
00:59 understanding of the paranormal.

01:35 In all my interviews and research, I have found that every country has its unique cultures
01:41 and traditions.
01:42 This also applies to their belief systems and views on the paranormal.
01:46 This brings me to the subject of magic.
01:49 There is dark magic and there is white magic.
01:52 Magic that harms and magic that gives hope.
01:55 What intrigued me was what I found out in Thailand, where the people believed that to
02:01 change their luck, they would lie in a coffin and believe in the magical power of prayers
02:08 and listening and reciting prayers inside the coffin while still alive.
02:19 The coffin ritual or the Nolom is normally carried out at a Buddhist temple on certain
02:24 occasions.
02:25 However, at Wat Tamai temple, the abbot has arranged a special session for the paranormal
02:31 zone.
02:35 As you can see, there are threads tied in a geometrical pattern just right below the
02:39 ceiling.
02:40 The magical power or the satsit, generated by the chanting of the monks, is transmitted
02:46 to the person sleeping in the coffin through the string that he holds onto while lying
02:50 down.
02:51 The other end of the strings are held by the monks.
02:57 When a person lies inside the coffin, he will imagine all the bad things leaving through
03:04 his feet and the chanting by the monks will also purify all negativities.
03:15 I pray to the gods and wish that my son will recover from leukaemia and come home soon
03:21 and lead a normal life again.
03:28 Every day, I will do all types of ceremonies for my son to be fine.
03:33 I will do anything.
03:35 My family and I are not giving up.
03:37 We want him to be healthy again and return home.
03:44 Sometimes believing in a little magic may help to change the course of a person's life.
03:49 In this case, Kunar's son, to recover from leukaemia.
03:53 What do you think?
03:55 In our research, it is our primary objective to go to the source of the stories we want
04:00 to explore so that we get a reliable account of the cases we want to see.
04:06 As you can imagine, that is not an easy task because in some societies, it is taboo, it
04:12 is negative to talk about paranormal.
04:15 But there are some societies which are very open about paranormal and I receive very exaggerated
04:21 and over the top stories which I dare not believe to be true.
04:26 In our research in Sabah, Malaysia, we discovered the story of Balan Balans.
04:33 These are dangerous beings created from a type of sorcery.
04:38 In the night, they go around looking for blood and flesh and in the day, they are like humans,
04:43 quite normal.
04:44 I had the good opportunity to meet two former Balan Balans and listen to them share their
04:49 lives with me as a Balan Balan.
04:54 You said that when you wake up in the morning, you have blood once coming out of your mouth.
05:03 Do you now realise that in the night, you had actually gone to eat dead bodies?
05:09 Do you see that?
05:10 Whenever I was angry, that night when I slept, my soul would roam, leaving my body behind.
05:17 During the day, I was human, while at night, I was a ghost.
05:20 During the four years when you were a Balan Balan, you followed them at night?
05:25 My soul would follow them and my body was left behind at home.
05:30 That time, they brought me to a funeral.
05:32 I didn't know what they would do, so I watched them.
05:36 They waited for the body on the rooftop.
05:38 When everyone was asleep, they would take the body away.
05:43 I felt at that time, they forced me to eat and told it was tasty.
05:48 I was uncertain if they were right.
05:51 Sometimes, I didn't follow what they taught me.
05:54 When I was awake, I didn't follow, but when I was asleep, they would come again.
06:00 I requested to meet with Mr Zaini's sister and wanted to hear from her
06:04 about the positive sides of the Balan Balan.
06:08 Based on what you are telling me, they come and you feel that they are helping you.
06:14 What other ways and what other powers did they give you that you feel could be used to help?
06:20 When I feel that my family is in need, I can fly to help them, even if it is as far as Sandakan.
06:27 I can reach that place but in an unconscious state.
06:30 Recently, my younger brother was missing for nine days in the sea.
06:35 I went to look for him.
06:37 It was like I was asleep and then I realized that I was flying.
06:41 I was up in the sky.
06:43 I flew to an island and saw my brother and his boat, but no one else could see.
06:48 (Dramatic music)
06:51 Hosting the Paranormal Zone has indeed been a personal adventure for me.
07:11 There are times it is beyond the physical. In fact, at times it is quite emotional.
07:17 This brings me to an episode we shot in Yogyakarta about a girl, a victim of black magic.
07:26 Until today, this episode holds dearly in my heart and stays very deeply rooted in my memory.
07:35 It is about strength. It is about pain. It is about life.
07:40 (Dramatic music)
07:43 When this patient arrived, she was barely conscious.
07:51 Her name was Supiati.
07:53 Both of her legs were badly infected and foreign objects were found lodged within her shins, heels and feet.
08:01 She later told a doctor that she has been in this condition for nearly two years.
08:05 (Dramatic music)
08:09 (Dramatic music)
08:12 Supiati received proper medical care at the hospital and was treated with great professionalism.
08:24 But two days after the operation, a strange thing happened.
08:28 Foreign objects like nails and needles were found lodged inside her legs again.
08:33 (Dramatic music)
08:37 There are other medical practitioners who criticized me for helping Supiati because it is mystical and not scientific.
08:43 If by wearing this coat, it prevents me from saving lives and people who are suffering, then I will take the coat off.
08:50 Let's put science aside and just feel and empathize with the plight of Supiati.
08:57 A total of 2,399 nails were removed from her body within two years.
09:04 When you started seeing those nails and pins and all that stuff, what did you think you were suffering from?
09:12 At first, I felt really sad.
09:14 My family and I actually had a suspicion that someone placed a dark spell on me.
09:19 (Dramatic music)
09:22 Who or what were you suspecting?
09:26 It was my ex-husband who made me sick.
09:28 He forced me to marry and threatened me many times.
09:31 And so three years ago, I did marry him out of fear.
09:34 It started on our wedding day when I fainted and fell ill and never got better.
09:38 (Dramatic music)
09:41 Three months later, strange things like nails, pins, hair started to come out of my body.
09:47 When I was very sick and in great pain, he refused to take me for treatment.
09:52 He only brought me to visit one witch doctor.
09:55 He said that if I don't listen to him and follow his instructions,
09:59 he will put more dark magic on me.
10:01 (Dramatic music)
10:04 When Supiati showed me the marks on her body,
10:06 I have to admit that I was disgusted and angry at the person who could cause her such damage.
10:12 (Dramatic music)
10:14 Supiati is scarred for life.
10:16 (Dramatic music)
10:19 Oh, God.
10:21 (Dramatic music)
10:23 It has obviously hurt your bones as well.
10:26 (Dramatic music)
10:29 Supiati, we haven't thought of...
10:32 Since you know who did it, you want to do it back to him?
10:35 No.
10:37 (Dramatic music)
10:39 A woman so strong yet so compassionate,
10:42 being in such pain doesn't even think of revenge.
10:46 So what qualifies those of you out there who would consider such evil deeds to hurt someone else?
10:53 In the past, the practice of ghost marriage was indeed very common,
10:57 especially in societies predominantly Chinese.
11:01 Of course, with modern times, this practice has become less common.
11:05 My interest in ghost marriage brought me from Singapore in season three to Taiwan in season four.
11:12 In Taiwan, I found a very unique and interesting story of a man married to a female spirit.
11:19 In his account, it merges the dimensions of spirit and reality.
11:25 (Dramatic music)
11:27 (Typewriter clacking)
11:29 (Dramatic music)
11:31 Through my research, I found a man in Taipei
11:34 who dreamt of the same lady for nine years and never, ever met her before.
11:38 Every night in his dream, he would be in a relationship with this lady,
11:42 to the extent of even having physical intimacies with her.
11:46 After a nine-year relationship with that lady in his dreams, they finally got married.
11:51 Ghost marriages is something that is acceptable and also symbolic in the Taiwanese culture.
11:59 Is this symbolic in your case, or is it your reality?
12:03 (Speaking in Chinese)
12:06 I feel that the marriage is real.
12:08 There are times when she took me to a very beautiful place.
12:11 It's too beautiful to describe.
12:13 We had a good time there, and we even had sex.
12:16 The feeling was even better than in real life.
12:19 During the intimate moment, I could feel the warmth of her body,
12:23 like being with a real person.
12:25 (Dramatic music)
12:28 After getting married to her, I could see her any time, day or night.
12:33 (Dramatic music)
12:35 Is ghost marriage a way of seeking psychological, emotional, and spiritual freedom?
12:40 Is ghost marriage a way of seeking psychological, emotional comfort, or a fantasy?
12:46 Dr Ho is conducting some tests on Mr Wu to assess his psychological state.
12:51 I am most curious to know the findings.
12:54 (Dramatic music)
12:57 The results show that he has no psychosis or any psychosyndrome,
13:01 except that he can hear his ghost wife.
13:03 (Dramatic music)
13:05 Mr Wu has a lot of frustrations, and he is unhappy in his real life.
13:09 He needs a lot of support and care.
13:12 He mentioned to us that he has given up to have a real marriage.
13:16 He is satisfied with his current ghost wife.
13:21 Therefore, it can be concluded that he might have built a fantasy world
13:25 that he feels secure and comfortable.
13:29 After listening to Dr Ho's explanation, we learned that Mr Wu has no mental illness.
13:35 I am still curious, is his marital status one that is paranormal?
13:39 (Dramatic music)
13:42 (Speaking in Chinese)
13:47 After Mr Wu spoke out to invite his wife, he started knocking the back of his head.
13:51 He looked possessed, his voice changed, and he kept pointing to his head and neck,
13:56 asking us to hit at the pointed areas.
13:59 (Dramatic music)
14:02 (Speaking in Chinese)

14:53 Haunted locations and haunted investigations are indeed the more popular episodes.
14:58 They are also the more challenging production shoots.
15:02 Before we even start filming, equipment goes funny.
15:06 Audio systems get interrupted, cameras start to switch off on its own.
15:12 Sometimes I feel uncomfortable, as though there is a lot of heavy energy surrounding me,
15:18 wanting to disturb me.
15:21 However, I've been very lucky, as such with my team,
15:25 because of the protection of Dorje Shugden and the blessings of my guru,
15:29 His Eminence Samuel Puchay.
15:31 Right now, I want to share with you an account which I remember very clearly,
15:36 shot at a cemetery in Singapore, where you will see more than meets the eye.
15:42 (Dramatic music)
15:47 After waiting for more than an hour, we seem to have made contact with the spirits,
15:52 as we might have seen flashes of lights from the device.
15:55 Desmond took some pictures with his camera,
15:57 hoping to capture any forms of unknown phantom energies in the area.
16:01 Upon checking through his camera, we discovered certain phenomenon that cannot be explained.
16:06 (Dramatic music)
16:08 Wow!
16:10 Maybe it's...
16:12 (Dramatic music)
16:21 The picture captured by Desmond seemed to show the feature of a human face,
16:25 and also a row of spirits watching us.
16:28 Does this mean that the spirit was once human and proves there is afterlife?
16:33 What does it say?
16:35 Died 23rd January 1930.
16:39 Wow. Makes sense.
16:41 From what we can see over there, the face of this man that Desmond and I saw,
16:47 is basically a man who has his hair about this length,
16:52 and somewhat here is very highly shaved.
16:55 Yes, the high forehead thing.
16:56 Yes, so I'm actually thinking, when the pigtails had to go, the first cut was about...
17:02 That... Yep, absolutely.
17:04 You know what I mean?
17:05 Yes.
17:06 Another shoot that I would like to share with you was a memorable experience
17:11 near Bandung in Indonesia, where two cameras went down during the shoot.
17:16 It was wet and hectic, but fruitful nonetheless.
17:20 As you can see, it's raining, and it's dark, and it's kind of chilly too.
17:28 I'm over here. I've arrived at Antakapura, which means the Palace of Death.
17:35 This is where the souls of two torn apart unite again.
17:42 Are they still here?
17:44 As it is standard practice of the paranormal zone to ask for permission
17:53 whenever we investigate a location that is deemed to be haunted,
17:57 I was doing the same at the tomb of Wat Umar's malang.
18:01 [Footsteps]
18:03 [Ghostly moaning]
18:05 [Footsteps]
18:08 [Ghostly moaning]
18:10 When we reviewed the footage, it seemed to have recorded an EVP or a ghost voice
18:15 that said, "Yah, yah," as confirmed by our expert researchers.
18:19 [Footsteps]
18:20 [Ghostly moaning]
18:21 Was it really a spirit who spoke to us?
18:24 Perhaps it was giving us permission to film at the location that night.
18:28 The tone and quality of the voice was quite strange as it sounded light and transient,
18:32 unlike that of a human or animal.
18:34 What do you think?
18:36 Pak Sabdo finally brought us to the cemetery of Ki Dalang and his musicians,
18:41 which is a place that many people come to pay respect and ask for blessings
18:44 as they feel that the spirit of the Great Dalang is still around.
18:47 Offerings, chanting, and prayers were made to the spirits and unseen residents
18:51 of the area by Pak Sabdo and his disciples.
18:55 But something unexpected happened when Pak Sabdo got up and walked towards the tomb
18:59 to present some sacred items like flowers.
19:01 A group of spirit orbs swept down from the top right corner of the tree
19:05 as if to receive the items and slowly disperse.
19:08 They behave like intelligent beings and not just a gust of dust particles
19:11 or raindroppers blown by the wind at random.
19:13 My question remains, what or who were these spirit orbs?
19:17 Were they once humans or were they nature spirits that inhabit that area?
19:22 Not all places we go to are welcoming.
19:25 In fact, some of them warn us not to enter.
19:29 Sometimes, the hostility chills you.
19:33 I carry with me a prayer, a prayer that appeases the environment
19:38 and blesses the unseen beings.
19:40 Unseen beings that could have been there for thousands of years already.
19:45 One such episode, which I remember, is shot in Melaka in a haunted mansion.
19:52 Where the prayers helped to appease the unseen beings so that I could do my job.
19:58 [Music]
20:04 I've sent my students and friends here to record, investigate and learn.
20:10 [Music]
20:17 [Chanting]
20:23 [Music]
20:31 The unseen beings are actually mentioning to us that they are grateful for the prayers
20:39 and they need more prayers in order to harmonise them.
20:43 Upon Lee Kim's request, they will actually show their appearance to the camera.
20:49 We have to leave this place for about 20 to 25 minutes.
20:53 By 10 o'clock, we should be able to come back.
20:55 So we'll leave the ghost meter and the cameras to this room?
20:59 Yes.
21:00 Alright.
21:01 Okay.
21:02 [Music]
21:11 There is a form that we see.
21:15 Over there.
21:17 It's white and it doesn't stay still.
21:20 There are also some orbs flying in.
21:23 Right there?
21:24 Yes.
21:25 Oh wow.
21:26 It has a head.
21:28 For several occasions and different locations that we've been to,
21:33 we have had experiences where we feel a presence.
21:38 But this time, we have footage on camera.
21:43 As an investigator, a person who is looking for information and knowledge for you,
21:54 this is good.
21:56 There you have it.
21:57 A flashback of four seasons,
21:59 bringing you a variety of subjects pertaining to the paranormal topic.
22:03 I hope that we have achieved our objective,
22:06 which is to provide you more information and knowledge on the subject of paranormal,
22:12 clearing your doubts, reducing your fear of what we label as unseen and illogical.
22:19 The future holds a lot more stories, a lot more interviews to be discovered,
22:25 a lot more people to meet and places to go.
22:28 And like I always say, what we see may not be real and what is real, we may not see.
22:35 [Music]
