00:00 Dolly Parton teams up with 4 Non Blondes' Linda Perry for new cover of band's signature
00:04 hit "What's Up".
00:05 "First of all, I love Linda Perry.
00:07 Second of all, I love this song written by Linda," said Parton of her fresh take on
00:11 the 1993 hit.
00:13 Dolly Parton and Linda Perry want to know what's going on.
00:16 On Friday, the two singer-songwriters teamed up for a new cover version of Perry's band
00:20 4 Non Blondes' signature 1993 hit "What's Up," which will appear on Parton's upcoming
00:25 rockstar album.
00:26 "First of all, I love Linda Perry.
00:29 Second of all, I love this song written by Linda," said the country superstar in a press
00:32 release of the cover, which arrives alongside a sweet music video featuring the pair harmonizing
00:37 together while Perry, 58, plays the guitar.
00:40 Interspersed between shots of Parton, 77, and Perry in the clip is footage of children
00:45 playing and enjoying life, and many kids join the two performers throughout the video, directing
00:50 the song's frustrated sentiment toward the youth's future in an uncertain world.
00:53 "Third of all, I love being a part of this video to try to make people think about what's
00:58 going on in this world today," continued Parton's statement.
01:01 "Shout out to the little children that helped with the video.
01:04 If our children don't make it, then what will?
01:06 Again, I ask 'What's Up?'
01:08 Enjoy."
01:09 The Jolie musician's admiration for Perry isn't one-sided.
01:12 The former 4 Non Blondes member was equally, if not more, excited to work with Parton.

01:20 video
01:21 Dolly Parton rolled out the latest song from her upcoming all-star debut rock record Rockstar
01:25 November 17 on Friday, September 22, a moving cover of the 1993 4 Non Blondes song "What's
01:32 Up?"
01:33 And because the country legend was determined to make her first 4E legit, she collaborated
01:37 on the song with former Non Blondes singer Linda Perry.
01:40 The superstar songwriter/producer Christina Avelera "Pank" Adele also appears in the
01:45 just-released video for the song, which was filmed at a Nashville elementary school on
01:50 the hottest day of the year.
01:51 "First of all, I love Linda Perry.
01:53 Second of all, I love this song written by Linda."
01:56 Parton said in a statement about the song that perennially asks a question with no clear
02:00 answer about the state of the world today.
02:01 "Third of all, I love being a part of this video to try to make people think about what's
02:06 going on in this world today."
02:07 Parton, 77, added.
02:08 "Shout out to the little children that helped with the video.
02:12 If our children don't make it, then what will?
02:14 Again, I ask 'What's Up?'
02:16 Enjoy."
02:17 The visual for the poignant take on the tune finds Parton singing the song on a stage,
02:21 with Perry gently strumming an acoustic guitar as children from Nashville's Eakin Elementary
02:25 School sit at her feet.
02:27 Parton has long supported childhood literacy through her Imagination Library project, which
02:31 has distributed more than 200 million books since 1995.
02:35 How is one supposed to react when the greatest and most prolific songwriter in the world
02:39 wants to cover a song you wrote?
02:41 Perry said in a statement.
02:42 "Her version of 'What's Up?' is so good.
02:45 Her spin on it made me feel like it was her song."
02:47 No surprise there.
02:48 "Being on set making the video was a comfortable, easy experience.
02:51 The vibe on set was chill and dolly and I got to catch up and laugh a lot.
02:55 I could go on and on.
02:56 Obviously, I'm a fan."
02:58 The Perry track is the latest preview of the anticipated 30-song collection.
03:01 21 covers, 9 originals, following last month's Paul McCartney/Ringo Starr-assisted cover
