Notre Dame Needs To Get Off To A Fast Start vs Duke
Transcript
00:00 And the first one for me is Notre Dame is going to have to be a better starting football
00:08 team when you look at the bigger games.
00:14 And if you look at Notre Dame through five games, they're actually averaging over 20
00:18 points in the first half.
00:21 That's their season total so far this season.
00:24 And I'm actually going to pull this statistic up.
00:26 Notre Dame has scored 101 points in the first half and they've scored 97 points in the second
00:33 half and currently they're averaging 39.6 points per game.
00:39 But here's the problem.
00:42 They have overwhelmed inferior opponents early in games and they have not been a team that
00:49 has been able to go out and get those same fast starts against the better teams in the
00:55 schedule.
00:56 And I heard, and this is going to be relevant to Duke, so when I was watching the Clemson
01:00 game at the time, the announcers made an interesting observation that last season, Mike Elko in
01:07 his first year at Duke was 7-0 in games where Duke scored first.
01:14 And so far this season, Duke has scored first in all four of their games, which means that
01:18 when they score first, they're 11-0.
01:21 And that's a team that starts fast in those moments and Notre Dame is a team that needs
01:27 to start fast against Duke.
01:29 They're going to have to start fast against Louisville, USC, Clemson, and in those bigger
01:33 games.
