What We Learned About Notre Dame vs Ohio State

00:00 Number one, this is a really talented football team in the trenches and athletically.

00:10 It's not where it needs to be completely, especially from an athleticism standpoint,

00:14 or I shouldn't say athleticism standpoint, a perimeter standpoint, a couple other positions

00:19 where it's just not quite where it needs to be to truly be elite, but still very good.

00:26 This is also a football team to me that the depth obviously is there.

00:35 We see the depth from this football team.

00:39 This is a team that's willing to fight.

00:41 It's a team that's not afraid of the moment, all that kind of stuff wrapped into one.

00:45 But then there's two other aspects about this football team that also go together.

00:50 Number one is that Notre Dame is still not there yet, and they're still that almost program.

00:58 The difference between this game and some of those other almost games is you look back

01:04 at this game, and like with the Georgia game in 2017 and 2019, you look back at that Georgia

01:10 game and you say, "Boy, Notre Dame played their butts off, and they just weren't good

01:16 Some things this other team did kind of let Notre Dame stay in the game, and then Notre

01:20 Dame had some areas where they were pretty good that they took advantage of, but you

01:23 just came out of those games and say, "Man, they're just not there yet."

01:28 I had a different reaction come out of this game.

01:30 This game was not only should they have beat Ohio State, but they should have beat Ohio

01:35 State convincingly.

01:38 Beating Ohio State convincingly, I'm not talking about blowing them out like the Michigan game,

01:40 I'm talking about this should have been a 21 to 10, 24 to 14, 27, 17 type of game, but

01:49 Notre Dame couldn't take advantage of the opportunities that were there, the slow start

01:55 that Ohio State had to impart to Notre Dame defense, the missed opportunities that Ohio

02:00 State had to impart to the Notre Dame defense, and they just couldn't get over that hump.

02:07 They couldn't do what they needed to do to take that step.
