We Are Still Learning About The Notre Dame Pass Offense
Transcript
00:00 I don't know exactly who this pass offense is yet.
00:07 It's certainly better than it was last year.
00:10 It certainly has better weapons than it had most of last year.
00:16 You certainly have a better quarterback than you had last year.
00:19 The pass protection has been more consistent than it was last year.
00:23 But what we don't know is, is it a good pass game?
00:28 Or can it be a pass game good enough for this team to be a championship football
00:33 team?
00:34 Against Ohio State, it was not good enough.
00:37 And there were some good numbers, they completed 68% of their passes, but
00:40 they only averaged 7.0 yards per attempt.
00:42 So coming into the game, been great, 10.1 against against a Navy,
00:47 11.2 against Tennessee State, 11.9 against NC State, 12.2 against Central Michigan.
00:52 They had thrown 15 touchdowns, their lowest quarterback rating up to that point
00:55 was 198.67, which is exceptional.
00:59 As you can see on the season, Notre Dame still ranks very high in pass efficiency,
01:02 they're still fifth.
01:03 But there's that one game that stands out, and that's against Ohio State.
01:06 They only passed for 175 yards, they only went for 175 or
01:10 7.0 yards per attempt, and their quarterback rating was only 140.
01:14 And if you look at what that would mean, 140, it's just one game, right?
01:19 But if you look at kind of where that is from a context standpoint,
01:22 that 140 ranking would rank them 65th in the country right now in pass offense.
01:27 They don't.
