João Carlos "Joãozinho" Sobreira who often raced under the alias "Joãozinho Treze", passed away after an accident during a Superbike Brazil race at the Autódromo de Goiânia, Goiás, Região Centro-Oeste, Brazil.
It happened on Sunday, 18 October 2015 morning, during the Superbike class first heat. The event was the sixth round of the 2015 Superbike Brasil Championship. On the approach to the Curva Um, the first bend of the circuit, during the third lap Joãozinho Sobreira's machine went straight and crashed violently against a tyre barrier. Greviously injured, Sobreira was taken by ambulance to the Hospital de Urgências de Goiânia (HUGO), located nearly the track, where he was pronounced dead a few hours after admission, at 12h00 that same day.
Joãozinho Sobreira, 32-year-old from São Paulo, Brazil, was riding his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR #113 entered by team Mobil Ituran Racing. It is believed that the rider suffered sudden illness before crashing.
In consequence of the tragedy the second Supebike heat and the remainder of the meeting were canceled as a mark of respect.
