00:00 Is CM Punk turning heel?
00:02 How does Tony Khan feel about Punk's WWE return?
00:05 And will AJ Lee be joining him in WWE soon?
00:10 CM Punk is back in WWE, here's his first promo… explained.
00:23 The post-Survivor Series episode of Raw saw the unthinkable come true.
00:27 Pixie Carter visited Nick Aldis and Cody Rhodes backstage.
00:31 Women's Raw Rumble No. 30 entrant confirmed.
00:34 And also CM Punk had his first promo in a WWE ring in almost 10 years.
00:40 I must admit, after feeling a little bit hollow when he made his return at Survivor Series,
00:44 watching Punk make his entrance on Raw felt really good.
00:48 Goddammit, I'm so fickle.
00:49 If anyone ever asks you how long do Oli Davis' principles last, you can tell them… well,
00:54 about 48 hours.
00:56 Quick, get me Saudi Arabia on the phone.
00:59 Hello Saudi Arabia, let's talk… sports washing.
01:02 Oh god, CM Punk's going to wrestle on the Saudi Arabia show.
01:06 Anyway, back to the promo, he came out with a huge smile to deafening CM Punk chants.
01:12 Apart from this one sign on the hardcam that read 'Cry me a river', a reference to
01:16 Jungle Boy mocking Punk in AEW, which caused the incident that got him fired over there.
01:22 Punk delivered his opening line 'looks like hell, froze over'.
01:26 I guess WWE is hell in this situation.
01:29 He continued on what, on first impressions, came off as a babyface promo.
01:34 He referenced all the wrestling legends who've mentored him over his career, the American
01:38 Dream, Dusty Rhodes telling him to 'speak the truth', or the wise man Paul Heyman
01:43 who said he'd have to leave and come back to get what he really wants from this company
01:47 - perhaps the WrestleMania main event he constantly lobbied for in the early 2010s - and he told
01:52 us all that he's been feeling more like himself again since he returned at Survivor
01:56 Series.
01:57 CM Punk has changed.
01:59 This is the truth.
02:01 This is where I belong.
02:03 I'm home.
02:04 That's the amazing thing about Punk.
02:07 So cult leader-like in his charisma, he can lie directly to your face without you realising.
02:12 Because the whole content of this promo - I'm home, everyone loves me, it's been nothing
02:17 but hugs with my WWE family backstage - was flipped on its head on the very last line
02:23 of the broadcast.
02:25 Off mic, but loud enough so the camera picked it up, Punk said "I'm not here to make friends.
02:30 I'm here to make money."
02:33 That's after spending the whole segment saying everyone's his friend and he's here for us
02:37 fans.
02:38 It's an interesting choice of phrase, too, as it has a very specific wrestling context,
02:43 being a verbatim quote from Scott Hall.
02:47 Making money, not friends, was the guiding principle of his 90s behind the scenes group
02:52 The Click.
02:53 You know who else was in The Click?
02:56 Current WWE Head of Creative Triple H. Imagine, after a decade of shoot feuding, Triple H
03:04 and CM Punk become a new two-man heel power trip.
03:08 Corporate machine, Punk.
03:09 This wasn't the only heel line Punk had.
03:12 He also brought up his rival Blackhawk's hockey team to the Nashville crowd, getting
03:16 him booed.
03:17 And earlier in the episode, Seth Rollins told the crowd to get their CM Punk chants out
03:21 the way because he didn't want to spend any more time on that hypocrite than necessary.
03:27 And in Punk's main event promo, he did that exact same hypocrite thing, saying he's home
03:32 for us fans, but then revealing it's for the money.
03:35 Seth reportedly started their kayfabe feud at Survivor Series, where he was filmed screaming
03:40 at Punk after the show went off air.
03:42 Punk himself seemingly referenced this in his promo, saying everybody in the locker
03:46 room is happy to see him.
03:48 Well, maybe not everybody, presumably setting up a feud with Seth over the World Consolation
03:54 Weight Championship.
03:55 He never mentioned AEW, but he did name drop his shoot wife AJ Lee to a huge pop, potentially
04:00 teasing her WWE return too.
04:03 Hopefully not for the Women's Royal Rumble match, because she'll just get overshadowed
04:06 by Dixie.
04:07 But Facebook is reporting that the backstage reaction in WWE to Punk's return has been
04:11 more muted than one might think.
04:14 While some wrestlers have said they don't want to work with him, others are expecting
04:18 to talk to WWE officials to get "assurances" about Punk and his role going forward.
04:24 His former employer, AEW boss Tony Khan, was asked about Punk's return while promoting
04:28 All In 2024 tickets going on sale, to which he replied "Can't talk about that, nor
04:34 do I think it's the time or the place.
04:36 Not to dodge your question, it's just not something I can legally talk about."
04:41 Fightful has reported, though, how he is feeling behind the scenes, claiming Khan was said
04:45 to be more concerned about losing Shibata, who's had to return to Japan, than Punk's
04:50 WWE return at Survivor Series.
04:53 Presumably his first reaction was the same as WWE's when Punk debuted in AEW.
04:58 Well he's their problem now.
05:00 But AEW has problems of their own.
05:03 AEW original QT Marshall, who was a Vice President, Manager of Talent Relationships
05:08 behind the scenes, has revealed he has officially resigned because the company has changed a
05:13 lot since 2019 and is heading in a different direction.
05:17 QT is very close with Cody Rhodes, having run the Nightmare Family training school where
05:22 Jade Cargill was improperly trained.
05:24 That's Triple H's words, not mine.
05:26 Make sure to keep checking WrestleTalk.com for updates on these stories.

06:00 Thank you Turbo Jack, and now it's time for my review of last night's episode of
06:29 Monday Night Raw...in about 5 minutes.
06:32 This show began with Randy Orton being full on old babyface Orton, high-fiving fans, being
06:36 super energetic and thanking everyone for his return.
06:39 He cut a pretty standard but good babyface promo, saying he has unfinished business with
06:43 the Bloodline, and he has receipts for every single member.
06:45 And when he says every single member, he means every single member.
06:50 With a Jey Uso hanging around on Raw, that's pretty intriguing.
06:53 Rhea Ripley interrupted though and said he shouldn't be worrying about the Bloodline,
06:56 Judgment Day is the most dangerous force on Raw right now, and if it wasn't for him, Priest
07:00 would be World Heavyweight Champ right now.
07:01 He's made Judgment Day his enemy.
07:04 Orton was then attacked by JD McDonough and Dominik Mysterio, and of course JD got RKO'd
07:08 once again because that's what he brings to Judgment Day these days.
07:11 This set up a Dominik Mysterio vs Randy Orton main event.
07:14 Alpha Academy, The Creedz and New Day were backstage, and they were joined by recording
07:17 artists Jelly Roll and R-Truth, and they said some things and did some comedy.
07:22 What came next was a tag team turmoil match, aka a gauntlet match, which started off with
07:26 Alpha Academy being represented by Otis and Akira Tozawa against DIY, which DIY won by
07:31 pinning Tozawa after a decent quick match.
07:34 DIY then faced Indu Cher, who were rolled up quickly by Gargano.
07:37 After that came DIY vs The Creedz, which was a very fun little affair with The Creedz putting
07:41 away DIY, and thus began the next leg of the story.
07:45 The Creedz faced New Day next and beat them after a great match, pulling out some impressive
07:49 power spots and some great wrestling, and last up for The Creedz was Imperium.
07:53 They had another very fun bout though, and despite an unfortunate slip for a botch that
07:57 would have been a very impressive spot, it still carried its momentum and followed through
08:01 to make The Creedz look great with the win at the end, making them the number one contenders
08:06 to the tag team titles.
08:07 It was unfortunate for a lot of the match because I felt like they deserved a better
08:10 crowd than this one, but they thankfully woke up towards the end.
08:13 Also pushing The Creedz gets a thumbs up from me, I think they're great.
08:17 Age Damien Priest is upset because he knows Ripley, Balor and Dom have something to say
08:21 to him, he knows he made himself the leader and it didn't go their way so go on, spit
08:25 it out already.
08:26 But Ripley and Balor are shocked they tell him that look, yes, you were the leader and
08:29 things didn't go our way, but it's okay, it's one loss, we're a family, no sweat,
08:33 we'll move forward.
08:34 But that's exactly what people who were secretly upset about the loss would say.
08:37 I also loved a little moment at the start of this promo where Balor walked in and said
08:41 guys, I just got done watching The Creedz, and they're the real deal, we shouldn't
08:45 underestimate them.
08:46 It's small, but it's a very effective way to put them over even further, when the
08:49 champions take their next challenges seriously and like a threat.
08:53 This was a very good segment.
08:54 Cody Rhodes came out next and said that he won in War Games which was his dad's match
08:58 and that meant a lot to him, but there's only one place he's going to go next, so
09:02 he's going to be the first person to announce himself for the 2024 Royal Rumble match.
09:07 I'm really glad they're getting the Rumble hype going so early, I'm a big fan of that.
09:10 But then Cody was interrupted by the lights going out for it to be revealed that this
09:13 whole time Shinsuke Nakamura was talking about him.
09:16 I'm sure that's what everyone wanted out of this.
09:19 Shinsuke's video promo ended and the real Shinsuke was in the ring and he misted Cody
09:22 to end the segment.
09:23 It's a filler feud for Cody before the Rumble and hopefully it'll be a good match, but
09:27 I wish Shinsuke got into a feud where he could win for once.
09:30 Bronson Reed faced Ivar next in a big meaty men match that ended with a double countout.
09:35 Boo.
09:36 The match itself was pretty decent, with Ivar missing a big moonsault and a nasty looking
09:40 Death Valley Driver into a barricade, but it really heated up after the match had finished,
09:44 with Ivar using a chair, the two brawling into the crowd, throwing security guards at
09:48 each other and Ivar hitting a huge senton off a big crate onto Reed and security, and
09:52 the crowd got really into it by the end.
09:54 I need a rematch with the two and I think we're getting one.
09:57 Also if I was Luke in this situation, I'd say that there was a PT Williams sighting
10:01 so it's a 5/5 show, but I'm not that shallow.
10:03 There was a Jason Jordan sighting though so it's a 5/5 show.
10:07 Next they played a compilation of people reacting to CM Punk's return from all around the
10:10 world and hey, that's me.
10:13 Pete Quinnell to WWE confirmed.
10:15 The Judgment Day backstage are annoyed by R-Truth, who's managed to get sugar and
10:18 cream everywhere in their clubhouse.
10:20 Nia Jax beat Zoey Starling to keep Stark's momentum going after facing Rhea at the pay
10:24 per view, nice job all, and backstage Miz says he wants to face Gunther again, and Gunther
10:28 said, lol, no, you fought well at Survivor Series so you can claim to belong in that
10:32 ring, just not in a ring with me.
10:33 Don't do a rematch please.
10:35 Seth Rollins came out next and was drowned out by CM Punk chants, which he encouraged
10:39 people to do, told them to get it all out of their system because he doesn't want
10:42 to spend another ounce of energy on that hypocrite, so instead of spending time on someone that
10:47 doesn't matter, why not talk about his World Heavyweight title.
10:50 I'm hoping this is a nice little tease of something to come.
10:53 Rollins says he spoke to Adam Pearce about his next challenger, but he's interrupted
10:56 by Drew McIntyre before he can announce who it is.
10:59 Drew says that Judgment Day had a plan to get him Jey Uso in a cage, and he didn't
11:02 get that, they let him down, and in babyface style he wanted to congratulate Rollins on
11:06 the win and hope for a rematch for the belt.
11:09 He needs to put Jey Uso on the backburner.
11:11 Seth said he's earned a rematch, there's just someone who's earned one a little bit
11:15 more, Jey Uso.
11:17 Drew snaps and loses it, headbutting Seth and screaming off mic that he beat Jey two
11:22 weeks ago, he knows he's ahead of him in the line, this is personal, which he's absolutely
11:26 right about by the way, and Jey comes out to stand tall.
11:29 I love this battle with Drew's light and dark sides, and it's Jey Uso that always
11:33 sends him over to the dark side.
11:34 Sami accosted Drew backstage, saying this isn't him, and yes he's had disappointments
11:39 in his career, but so has everyone.
11:41 Every disappointment Drew has had, Sami's had ten times over, but he always picks himself
11:45 up and dusts himself off and moves forward because he knows his end goal is the world
11:50 title.
11:51 Drew agrees, reverting to light side Drew, but then said he needs to build his way back
11:55 to the title, and he'll start that next week with a match against Sami.
11:59 All great stuff.
12:00 Piper Niven pretty much single handedly retained the Women's Tag Bucks against Natalya and
12:04 Tika Nox next, which was fine, and then backstage Randy Orton and Jey Uso make up.
12:09 Oh.
12:10 I thought Randy said that the bloodline stuff.
12:13 Oh.
12:14 He said that as long as Jey's not in the bloodline he's fine.
12:17 Okay.
12:18 I mean, that makes sense, I guess.
12:21 I was just looking forward to the, you know, the dissension and the drama.
12:24 Becky Lynch backstage says there's a couple of fights coming, one more pressing than the
12:27 other, whatever that means.
12:29 And we had our main event of Randy Orton vs Dominik Mysterio, where Orton overcame JD
12:33 McDonough Interference to win, hitting the RKO on Dom.
12:37 This was a perfectly fine showcase match for Orton, and gave him a feel-good win on his
12:40 Raw return.
12:41 And then we had CM Punk cut his promo to go off the air, which Oli did a full dissection
12:45 of earlier in the video.
12:46 I personally found it quite anticlimactic, but I'll talk about that more on the Raw
12:50 Review Podcast later today on the WrestleTalk Podcast channel, so subscribe over there.
12:54 I really enjoyed this episode of Raw.
12:56 Not everything was perfect, but I'm liking the direction of a lot of stories, and got
12:59 a lot out of the tag team turmoil match which took up a fair chunk of the show.
13:03 This was a 4 out of 5 show.
13:04 Now check out the newest episode of 3 Count where Oli and Luke review every Survivor Series
13:08 ever in three words or less.
