00:00 I think somebody's been spending a little too much time in the Speed Force.
00:03 Here's a look at McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Flash War Impulse.
00:09 [Music]
00:30 Bart Allen, a time-traveling speedster from the 31st century, became an important member
00:34 of both the Flash family and Young Justice team.
00:37 A multiverse altering crisis occurred when he was trapped in the Speed Force, resulting
00:41 in most of his teammates forgetting him and their shared history.
00:44 Released when the Speed Force barrier was broken, Bart sought out his friends and family.
00:50 Bart is one of those rare cases in which he's never really running out of time.
00:53 Before of course we get a closer look at the DC Multiverse Gold Label Edition Flash War
00:56 Impulse, let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
01:00 Not though a super new figure, but one though I still wanted to look at on this channel.
01:04 Impulse, if looking at this correctly, stands about 6 3/4 of an inch in height.
01:08 Or the figure is about 17 cm tall.
01:11 Let's bring a couple characters that know a little something about speed.
01:14 Here's what Impulse looks like with the Dark Knight's two-pack flash.
01:17 This one got packed along with Red Death.
01:19 This one has the grimace face.
01:20 There's also a smiling version of the flash that utilizes essentially the same body.
01:23 That same body also got utilized again when we got ourselves the reverse flash, which
01:27 basically just using the same body and cast in different plastic colors.
01:31 Also here's what the figure looks like with a figure that still isn't the same size
01:35 as Impulse.
01:36 As you can see, he's going to come up a little bit short.
01:37 Also compared along with the speed metal, Dark Flash.
01:40 Terrain that we usually cover when it comes to flash figures gets also covered here as
01:44 well with Impulse.
01:45 Not only of course you get yourself the display stand and trading card, but you also get all
01:48 these speed force effects.
01:50 Look at my wiggling fingers over here.
01:52 Those get all attached onto Flash's body in various sections.
01:55 Impulse though, like I said, does come included with the display stand, so nothing really
01:58 new to report here.
01:59 Also once again, it's the black circular display stand with still the sizzled on stamping
02:04 of the DC logo and one neighboring peg off to the side that's going to plug into either
02:07 one of the boots of Impulse.
02:09 You only have one boot to choose from, so choose wisely.
02:13 I'm going to move that to the side.
02:14 The figure also as well, stop being silly, the figure also comes included with a Flash
02:18 War Impulse card.
02:20 Now the thing about the card though is it sort of does depict Impulse in a little bit
02:23 more of a younger state than what we're actually getting here for the figure.
02:26 Very similar costumes in fact, but it does seem to be the case that he's a little bit
02:29 younger though featured on the front of the card.
02:31 On the back though, his real name is Bart Allen.
02:33 You can also pause this and read for yourself all about the exploits of the 31st century
02:37 time traveling speedster.
02:40 Happens to also be the same thing I read at the beginning of this review.
02:42 I do once again like the idea that they're using source material rather than using figure
02:46 photography.
02:47 It seems to be something that they've just done away with altogether and I'm glad they
02:50 continue with that trend still with these cards.
02:52 I'm going to move this card to the side.
02:54 It's going to get packed inside with the rest of my trading cards.
02:56 I've been kind of nicely collecting them inside my binder.
02:59 Let's talk a little bit about the Speed Force effects now.
03:01 The Speed Force effects, try to get that all out, actually comes in two sort of forms.
03:07 One of these ones which actually clip around the legs and then he also comes with a slightly
03:10 smaller version that then clip around his arms.
03:13 When you're looking at these, you kind of get an idea as to how these are supposed to
03:16 fit.
03:17 There is sort of more of a curved contoured section that's supposed to be kind of parallel
03:20 to the sides of his legs.
03:21 I'm picking up the figure right now.
03:23 You can take these and basically all they are is just clamped pieces of plastic.
03:26 See how they kind of wrap around and form like the letter C. These just clip around
03:30 his legs.
03:31 Now you can either just slide them up the legs.
03:33 You can also, the best place it seems to be and even then it sits really loose, is kind
03:38 of more in the thigh area.
03:39 If you have them further down by the calves, then they sit really way too loose and that
03:43 doesn't seem to change at all even when we're looking at this one.
03:46 They're fine and good I feel for maybe larger scale figures like maybe like the Flashes,
03:51 like the Barry Allen or I should say like the Barry Allen or Wally Westflash.
03:54 But I find with maybe Impulse with his legs being slightly leaner, they don't seem to
03:58 fit as well.
03:59 They kind of clip on there, but they don't seem to clip in a place that stay in place.
04:03 And again, you can just put them really any which way you want.
04:05 You also have these ones, which again are slightly smaller and then these just clip
04:09 around his existing forearms and they actually hold better really when you compare the two.
04:14 These legs again, they just, they're way too wide I feel again for how narrow of a calf
04:18 that he has.
04:19 Unless you maybe were to heat these and maybe if you were to heat them, you probably could
04:22 bring these a little bit more closer together and hey, you never know, they might actually
04:25 fit around his legs a little bit better than what they do right now.
04:28 These again, you could also really use for other Flash figures.
04:31 I'm also kind of being considering using this with Black Adam because Black Adam doesn't
04:34 have a speed force working with him, but he certainly has electricity and these might
04:37 work really rather handy.
04:39 Even these ones really, I could clip around Black Adam's arms.
04:43 Let's for the right now at least move them off to the side and getting a little closer
04:46 looking Impulse.
04:47 One thing I'll tell you right away is one thing I really like about the figure is the
04:49 costume.
04:50 I like the design of the costume.
04:52 Maybe I don't like necessarily the way that they applied the paints.
04:56 We're going to talk a lot more about that in a moment.
04:58 First of all, let's get a closer look at his face.
05:00 His face does look quite a lot like he does in the actual comics.
05:03 I do really like the way they've actually given him kind of more see-through translucent
05:07 goggles, something I really still wish they could really do with like the Blue Beetle.
05:10 Blue Beetle, I think when we had a look at that figure, yeah, the Blue Beetle had kind
05:14 of I think fully painted in eye goggles.
05:16 I really would have preferred it instead they could have done something similar to what
05:19 we got here with Impulse.
05:20 Impulse, at least the head sculpt is actually really good on this guy.
05:24 He has a little bit of kind of blushing.
05:26 You kind of see it looks almost as if he's been put out on stage and he starts to get
05:30 a little shy.
05:31 He's got redness around the cheeks, around the top of his nose, and around the top of
05:34 his forehead as well.
05:35 I don't know why it's placed there only and all the rest of his face seems to be a little
05:39 bit more pale.
05:40 I like the coloring that they've done to the lips, but the use of the translucent plastic
05:44 to evoke the coloring of the goggles in the comics, I really like the way they've done
05:48 that and I really would like to see them do that for future figures.
05:50 Of course, he does have little lightning bolts there also on the sides of his cowl.
05:54 The hair this time around actually does stick out the top unlike Flash would normally would
05:57 have a fully enclosed cowl piece just basically wrap over top of his existing hair.
06:01 That's a really good looking Flash or a really good looking Impulse at least.
06:05 Unfortunately though, here's where the problem comes with this figure is the fact that they
06:08 give him like a two-tone coloring for this front stripe that he has down his chest and
06:13 then splits them down the middle and it goes off to the sides of his legs.
06:17 It is in a way kind of streaky and I don't say that in no pun intended because of course
06:21 he's one that also of course follows the speed force, but I feel like his body, the way they've
06:27 actually painted the red, it does come across messy in some areas.
06:31 Like right here, it's supposed to come down and of course it's supposed to be a lightning
06:34 bolt so it's going to have already natural jagged points, but there's a few little areas
06:38 like right here for example, I think that kind of went off the beaten path kind of and
06:42 end up being a little bit of a splotchy red mark that left behind right here.
06:46 I think really it should be almost more seamless to the side like they have it on this side,
06:50 but just this one little area here, I've got a little bit of a paint bleed.
06:54 Also too, when you're looking at the darker red, the lighter red isn't as bad of a problem,
06:58 but the darker red in some areas kind of looks like it's just streaky, like there wasn't
07:02 enough of a brush stroke painted with it.
07:04 Like in the areas right here, you can kind of see some of the lighter red kind of peeking
07:08 its way through.
07:09 There's also a little open areas where like the darker red hasn't been successfully painted.
07:13 Almost like they really need to paint it a second time because like the red, the darker
07:17 red at least, seems to be a lot more streakier.
07:19 Of course, when you flip the figure around on the back, it's about really the same.
07:23 The darker red in some areas, you can really see more of the lighter red kind of bleeding
07:27 its way through.
07:28 The paint is some of the, not some of the cleanest that I've seen on these figures and
07:31 it's really hard of course when you're taking already a figure that's got a white body and
07:34 then you have to kind of successfully paint something over top of it.
07:37 There's always the risk that something's going to bleed.
07:39 There's always the risk of course when you get to things like darker red like this, where
07:42 obviously the paint just need to be a little bit better than what it was.
07:46 The other thing I also noticed about this figure when I took this guy to the packaging
07:48 was that his gloves, I'm just going to move them up the way that I originally found them.
07:52 They look like this and I was going to comment that I wish that the gloves were a little
07:55 closer to the actual hands, but it turns out you can take the top cuff of the glove and
08:00 you can actually slide it down.
08:02 I've already done that already on this side, so you can actually have them a little bit
08:05 closer to the hands the way that they really should be.
08:08 The colors are pretty close.
08:09 I mean, you've got again like the darker red for the glove here and then you've got the
08:12 lighter banding of the red here for the top of the glove.
08:15 It matches fairly well the colors that they use for the front striping of his body, but
08:19 again I just wish that the paint was a little cleaner that they applied to the body itself.
08:23 The white is pretty good, but you've got to believe like the white is just cast in white
08:26 plastic.
08:27 It's really just all the red that they had to paint alone and the red I feel kind of
08:31 just...
08:32 It makes the figure look a little, I don't want to say sloppy, but it certainly does
08:35 make it look like he's a little unfinished.
08:38 Down below he does also have very similar to what he would have had for the gloves.
08:41 He's got these little cool little parts that stick out the side straps.
08:45 He's got it here on the gloves.
08:46 He's also got down below here on the boots as well.
08:48 And of course it carries over the same color scheme of the lighter red here for the tops,
08:52 darker red for the boots, and again like all the same articulation point that you really
08:55 come to expect.
08:56 The only other thing I will say though about Impulse, it isn't so much the problem here
09:00 with the elbows because there's nothing really painted here.
09:03 But when you get down to the knees, there's obviously a very divide here where you can
09:06 notice that the coloring of the white plastic underneath kind of cuts right through what
09:10 would be normally a seamless red all the way down.
09:13 Even when you have the legs straight, for example, there are a few little areas like
09:16 right here where you can kind of see it's no continuation of the red.
09:19 So it's a shame that that had to be there.
09:21 I mean you can always have the legs completely straight, but for this guy to be one that
09:24 always is running, why are you ever going to really have this guy in a straight pose?
09:28 You're always going to probably want to pose him like this.
09:29 I kind of in a way wish that they could have used red pegs, put those on the inside.
09:34 Red pegs would probably been a harder thing to do because they would have had to then
09:37 try to match the colors for the red here.
09:39 That's probably one of the reasons why they just decided to paint the kneecap and leave
09:42 it alone.
09:43 For the figure's articulation, starting first back with his head sculpt, his head is going
09:47 to be on a ball joint like all the other DC multiverse figures that we look at.
09:51 With that though, it allows Impulse to have a full head rotation.
09:55 Now also with this flash too, the head can look pretty high.
09:58 So again if you want to have him kind of in a more running pose, the head looking up at
10:01 least will allow him to see where he's going.
10:03 The head can look down this far and you can also rock it back and forth as well with a
10:07 full head rotation.
10:09 As for the arms, they do rotate all the way around.
10:11 He has once again a little socket joint here.
10:13 It doesn't necessarily give anything additionally when it comes to his articulation.
10:17 It kind of more just conceals the fact that there's a hinge joint on the inside of his
10:20 armpit.
10:21 The figure does have a swivel in his bicep.
10:23 He also possesses a double hinge on his elbow.
10:26 And of course he always, as usually the case, has a rotation there in the hand where you
10:29 can also hinge it back and forth.
10:31 His upper torso is once again being on a ball joint, similar in the way that his knee has
10:35 a breakup of color.
10:36 Obviously if you're going to bring his torso far back like this, you're going to notice
10:39 there's a big cut right there where the white plastic, the bare white plastic is exposed
10:43 underneath.
10:44 But the torso does move quite freely.
10:46 It moves forward that far, it looks back that bit.
10:49 You can also move it back and forth this way as well.
10:51 The figure also has a secondary ball joint at the base of the abdomen where you can also
10:55 rotate the figure's torso that way as well.
10:58 This skirting, I don't want to say this skirting, his lower trunks are once again using a softer
11:02 plastic.
11:03 McFarlane, I think to his credit, has actually done a pretty good job of making the bodies
11:06 a little bit more tapered, a little more fitted to the frame.
11:10 In the past when we have looked at trunks, for example, they tend to stick out a little
11:14 bit farther.
11:15 And I'm glad to see they kind of have found a way to make it a little bit more streamlined.
11:19 Something you may also notice, I don't know if you've noticed here on my fingers, I don't
11:23 know if some of the paint is actually coming off.
11:25 It may actually have been, I've had the figure out for like about a half hour just kind of
11:29 playing and learning the ropes sort of before I hit the record button.
11:33 I've noticed that some of the paint, and maybe it's just my own eyes playing tricks on me,
11:36 has found its way onto my fingers.
11:38 It seems to be also on my thumb here as well.
11:40 So I don't know if there is maybe a little bit of paint that's flaking off the figure.
11:43 I don't know, I'm going to have to look at that a little bit further.
11:46 But the legs do split out.
11:47 Once again, they're on ratcheted joints.
11:49 You can take the legs and move them forward.
11:50 You can move them back.
11:51 There's a swivel at the top of the thigh.
11:53 The figure does have a double hinge on the knee.
11:54 There's once again, the very bare, very bare plastic underneath that.
11:58 And then of course, the figure has once again, the ankle pivot where it can move up and down
12:01 this way.
12:02 And you can rock it back and forth with some decent toe articulation as well.
12:07 The thing about Bart though is, or Impulse if you prefer, he's a good looking figure.
12:11 He's got a really good head sculpt, but I feel like the paint is the thing that kind
12:14 of makes the figure suffer a bit.
12:16 We can once again, bring back in Bart.
12:18 Bring back in, there's Bart already.
12:19 Let's bring back in the original Flash or one of the, at least the original Flash.
12:23 I think there's actually been a recent Flash that has come out.
12:25 I haven't had the chance yet to pick that figure out.
12:27 Yeah, I like Impulse.
12:29 I just again, like wish his paint was a little bit applied better.
12:32 And I don't know again, like if I'm actually having paint coming off my fingers, it certainly
12:35 does seem to be the case.
12:36 I can see there's a little bit of red on the end of it.
12:38 I know it wasn't the case when I started hitting the record button.
12:41 So maybe with the time of actually handling this figure, there may have actually been
12:44 just a little bit of paint that's flaked off.
12:46 Why can't I get Flash to stand here?
12:48 Let's actually get him on his display stand.
12:50 All this just to kind of show you guys the comparisons between the two figures and I
12:53 can't get really one Flash to stand properly.
12:55 Get him on a display stand.
12:56 There we go.
12:57 The thing I like also about Impulse, like again, is the head sculpt.
12:59 I think using the translucent goggles is really a nice touch.
13:02 I certainly would love to see that, that same approach been done when we looked at the Blue
13:06 Beetle.
13:07 Cause I think from what I remember, the Blue Beetle had more again, fully painted goggles.
13:10 They really should have gone the approach of what they did here with Impulse.
13:13 It's a good looking figure, good looking head sculpt.
13:16 Just again, kind of under delivers a little bit the way they've actually painted him.
13:20 Impulse is a very impressive figure with unfortunately very unimpressive paints.
13:24 The problem that faces Impulse is really the same problem that faces every other figure
13:27 that gets painted on certain parts.
13:29 The moment you start to move hinges around that you do notice the break up of the paints.
13:33 This is a hard thing for figure companies really do because it's not like they could
13:36 use for example, on Impulse, red pegs.
13:38 They use say red hinges on his knees.
13:41 Then you'd obviously notice it right away on the side of the figure's legs.
13:43 So they couldn't have done that.
13:44 Maybe they could have gone in for example, and painted the part inside his torso.
13:47 So hinging the torso back and kind of filling in those, those creased areas.
13:52 So at least when you did move the torso back, like I've got here right now in final looks,
13:55 you wouldn't even notice then the bare white plastic exposed underneath.
13:59 Now if that wasn't already a problem on its own, the problem with it also is the fact
14:02 that the parts that we do actually do get painted are a bit messy.
14:06 You'll notice it even more.
14:07 I've noticed on the back of the figure's body than maybe on the front.
14:09 I still think of some of it's come off onto my figures.
14:12 Maybe right around like the knee joints for example.
14:15 When I was like moving the joints around, maybe some of the paint just came off on my
14:18 hand that way.
14:19 But you'll notice on the back, there's very obvious areas that have some streaking.
14:22 There's some sections that have then bled onto the red that's outlined around it.
14:26 And there's even areas where on the back of Impulse's body, at least on mine alone, there's
14:29 also areas where you can see like the white plastic still peeking its way out.
14:33 So the paint isn't the cleanest on Impulse.
14:35 If you can overlook that though, being the fact that we don't really have a lot of Impulses
14:39 as far as I know, this might even be the only Impulse figure we've gotten from the DC
14:42 multiverse.
14:43 I guess right away that makes him worth picking up.
14:45 But the varying levels of QC problems may also be facing as well.
14:50 Not so much again for the figure, but the way that the paint was actually on the figure.
14:53 Let me know if you have picked up this figure for yourself and if you have had any problems
14:57 with the paint.
14:58 Also as well, if you guys are interested and would like to get this one for yourself, it's
15:01 available as of right now in retail stores and online.
15:04 If you guys enjoyed this video, I want to hit it with a like.
15:05 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing and you certainly would like to
15:08 stick around for more.
15:10 If you haven't already done so, of course it makes no sense at all if you have subscribed.
15:13 It's not like you're very well going to be unsubscribing and then subscribing again.
15:16 That's silly.
15:17 That's nonsense.
15:18 But if you are new here, this is the first time you've come across this channel.
15:20 You like hopefully the content that you guys are seeing and you want to see more content.
15:25 Yes, hit that subscribe button down below and turn on the bell notification.
15:28 And of course, if you also want to play a little bit of catch up, popping up also at
15:31 the very end of this video as well would be a playlist of other things I've looked at
15:34 from DC multiverse.
15:36 As of course, as always guys, thanks for watching.
15:38 See you guys next time.
