00:00Look, if you really want the powers, you're gonna have to say the magic word.
00:03Here's a look at the McFarland Toys DC Direct, Dawn of DC, Page Punchers, Shazam!
00:30The Clubhouse of Eternity, Homicidal Worms, Talking Tigers, Atomic Robots, Alien Worlds,
00:35Sinister Curses, and villains from throughout the DC Universe, welcome to the wild adventures
00:39of Billy Batson, whose big red alter ego defends the Earth from its weirdest and wildest threats.
00:44When Gargaz, Emperor of the Moons, sets his sights on Gorilla City, that's when you shout
00:49Shazam!
00:50Mmm, six letter word that means summon some magic.
00:53I got nothing.
00:56What I do have though, at least, is my tape measure, as we're about to find out just how
00:59tall the Page Punchers Shazam, oh, actually, it was Shazam, oh wait, no, there's an exclamation
01:03mark on the end of it.
01:05Let's take though the tape measure and see how tall the Page Punchers Shazam actually
01:08stands, and then you know what?
01:09We'll bring in maybe another Shazam for comparisons.
01:12The figure's gonna stand at seven and a quarter inches in height, or Billy Batson's gonna
01:16be about 18 and a half centimeters tall.
01:17Well, I do have two Shazams, technically I have the movie one as well, which I don't
01:21know where he is at the moment, so I guess I'm not wrong to say I have Shazams in my
01:25collection.
01:26From a size standpoint though, the Page Punchers not only is a much more vibrant red, but he's
01:30considerably taller as well.
01:33So what does this Batson offer up other than a bigger figure?
01:35Well, being that he's also a Page Puncher, he also comes included with a comic book.
01:39This was Dawn of DC with one magic word, Shazam, and it's also issue number one.
01:44I like the artwork though that they have on the front, and there's a classic looking Shazam
01:48or Captain Marvel, if you prefer, in the background there as well.
01:51If we just flip through the comic, right away you're introduced to Shazam riding on top
01:55of what looks to be a T-Rex.
01:57Already have me interested.
01:58Flip though through this, you can see actually like the artwork that they give is pretty
02:01good here.
02:02A classic looking Shazam as well is treated here on the back or on the inside of the cover.
02:07He also is playing bowling, so he's doing all the things that kids would still do.
02:11He's also playing video games down below.
02:12Nice comic, I'm looking forward to reading through all of this.
02:15There's also an advertisement on the back for DC Universe Infinite, and also here as
02:19well, DC All-Star Special.
02:21Let's put the comic to the side.
02:23Infinite has also come in clue with a trading card.
02:25The trading card does have no matching at all to the cover.
02:28Sometimes they've done that in the past, I think where page punchers have come in clue
02:31with comics, and then the actual trading card has a similar image.
02:34This time around though, we actually get Billy Batson just flying through the city streets.
02:38Wait, does that look like a giant crocodile in the background?
02:41Uh-oh.
02:42I think he should be flying towards that, not flying away.
02:44He's probably gonna be circling around.
02:46The back of the card though is a pretty good read-up, gives enough of at least the backstory
02:49of what exactly Billy Batson has to deal with on a daily basis.
02:53His real name is Billy Batson.
02:54Probably have said that a couple of times already.
02:56Nice looking trading card.
02:57Move that off to the side.
02:59The figure does also come in clue with a display stand.
03:01Not much new to report here.
03:02It's a circular black display stand.
03:04Still has the DC logo, still has the peg.
03:07If you were to check off all those three things on your clipboard of what would be an identifiable
03:11black stand, circular, DC logo, and peg.
03:18All three.
03:19So this of course can be useful when it comes to attaching onto the bottom of Billy Batson's
03:22boots.
03:23Ba-ba-ba-ba.
03:24The figure does also come in clue with some swappable hands.
03:27Right now he has like flying hands.
03:28If you don't necessarily like the look of that because it just looks like he's got like
03:31jazz hands.
03:32I know I don't do that nearly enough in these reviews.
03:34Jazz hands.
03:35If you don't like the look of that though, and you like the look of these instead, the
03:38figure does come in clue with some closed fists.
03:40Good for punching.
03:41In fact, to show you what that looks like, go ahead, not to punch people.
03:44I don't want to show you guys what it looks like to punch a person.
03:46You never want to punch a person.
03:47Ever.
03:49I mean, sometimes, okay, no, I'm just going to say, put me down for never.
03:52Never punch a person.
03:53If you want to swap out the hands though, it's pretty easy to do.
03:55Just basically pop the hand that he has.
03:57You don't have to make the noise while you're doing it.
04:00And by the way, there's the pegs.
04:02There's the holes.
04:03Simple shapes.
04:04Just to plug the two together.
04:05Now you got yourself Billy Batson with closed fists instead.
04:08If you want to have a more stoic pose, a heroic pose, that's a good looking set of hands to
04:12be using.
04:13Oh, that looks nice.
04:15While he's also standing heroically, the one other included accessory that the figure
04:19has as well is the little chain piece that connects that front of his cape to the other
04:23side.
04:24Kind of meet in the middle.
04:26I guess they've done that as a separate piece.
04:27If you choose, maybe like for example, you don't want to have this necessarily on Captain
04:31Marvel or Shazam.
04:32I personally like it on the figure, but I guess they gave you the option if you didn't
04:35want to have it on him.
04:36If you didn't want to put it on him though, what you need to do basically is get this
04:40around the back of his cape.
04:42Also clearly though, you can see that he's got a high collar here.
04:45So basically what you have to do is you just take this piece, fit it around the back of
04:50his collar.
04:51I suppose you probably could also have gone the option of heating the head, but you can
04:55see it's pretty easy to do.
04:57Then just kind of move it off to the side, get it to the point where you want to have
05:00it, and then sort of just bring down the cape.
05:02That's all you got to do.
05:04That's all you got to do.
05:05Simple.
05:06Not simple shapes.
05:07Simple.
05:08Simple to do.
05:09There's no way to actually peg that in place.
05:10So unfortunately though, it's going to be a bit loosey goosey.
05:13It's going to move around a little bit when you're obviously posing the figure around.
05:16Again, you can have just the choice to leave that off if you want to.
05:19I think it adds a little something to him and it honestly as well, like if I don't have
05:24a place to put this, it's only just going to get lost.
05:26I mean, I could lie to myself and say, Oh no, no, I'm going to put it in a secret place,
05:31a little drawer with all my other accessories.
05:33Who am I kidding?
05:34This thing's going to get lost if I don't put it around his collar.
05:36But I do think it though, it adds a little something to him.
05:38You just want to make sure though, you have a kind of little, it's always unfortunately
05:41going to be riding up the back of his collar.
05:43I guess that's not the place you're going to be seeing anyways.
05:45You're going to be looking at it from the front.
05:47What's also from the front is the sculpting on Billy Batson's face.
05:51I get with what they were going with here.
05:52They were kind of going with more of like a golden age look to Billy Batson where like
05:55Shazam has more of the squinted eyes and the big smiling face.
05:59I like it.
06:00The only thing I would say though, is I feel like the head's a little too long.
06:04If they took this idea and they squished it a little bit.
06:07So maybe like, for example, his head was only like that big.
06:10I think the same head that he has, or the same face that he has would have worked just as well.
06:15With that being said though, it's a good looking head sculpt.
06:17I feel like maybe it's a little too long.
06:19That's all.
06:20The rest of the colors for his body already mentioned though, are a lot brighter.
06:23I don't even remember which Shazam this was.
06:25I'm sure somebody could let me know down below.
06:27Going away from the idea of having like more of a ketchup red, which this Shazam clearly has.
06:33I like more darker of the red that they've given the body.
06:35This one also benefits too, by being a later release, that he now has a fabric cape.
06:39The fabric cape not only has a wire along the top of his collar, so you can bend that
06:43the way that you want.
06:44But he also has a wire running down the sides of the cape as well, and along the bottom.
06:48So you can get that in the pose that you want.
06:50Of course he does have the emblem there on the front.
06:52I was actually expecting this to be raised, like they would have sculpted it over top
06:56of his body.
06:57But it's not the case.
06:58Unfortunately, what they've done now instead, is they've just printed it in place.
07:01Which I guess is not a bad thing at all.
07:03The thing that's kind of interesting also about Shazam, is that if you've already seen
07:06my review of the comic Christopher Reeve Superman, notably though, is that Shazam's got these
07:12larger joints that are connecting the part of his forearm to the part of his bicep.
07:16Much larger though, it seems only on the DC direct releases of these.
07:20And I don't know why they're not using the same hinges, where they're not as big as what
07:24we're getting here.
07:25In fact, like looking at this, and if you looked at my DC, well the Christopher Reeve
07:29Superman, the comic Superman, yeah, it seems to be using the same style of joint.
07:34It's got the gold gauntlets there down below as well, that match nicely the trim that they
07:38give in the cape.
07:39This part of obviously, for the front of his belt, is a much brighter yellow.
07:43He's also got bright yellow down below.
07:45I wish that they could have maybe met somewhere in the middle.
07:47I mean, I like the gold, and I like the yellow.
07:49Maybe if they made the yellow just a little bit darker, I feel it's a little on the brighter
07:53side.
07:54But at least one thing though, it does match the colors of his boots.
07:56For the figure's articulation though, Shazam's head is going to be on a ball joint.
08:00So of course it allows the head to rotate all the way around.
08:02The head can look up and look down, and you can also move it back and forth as well.
08:07As for his arms, they rotate all the way around.
08:09You can also hinge them out at a T-pose if you prefer.
08:12The figure does also have a swivel in his bicep, a double hinge on his elbow.
08:16Although with this figure, it was really, really tight, and it still continues to be
08:19tight.
08:20I could probably heat it up.
08:21It's not bothering me enough to really do much with it.
08:23I mean, it's still enough that I can do stuff with the elbow.
08:25I can also do stuff with the hands.
08:27You can rotate those all the way around and hinge them back and forth.
08:30Upper torso is going to be on a ball joint.
08:33Further from that, the figure does also have an abdomen ball joint.
08:35The legs split out about that far.
08:38You can take the legs and, in fact, move them forward.
08:40Move them back.
08:41It's a swivel there at the top of the thigh.
08:43Double hinge on the knee, which sometimes, sometimes this actually gets all caught up.
08:49You probably already saw it for yourself.
08:51When I bend the knee all the way back, it seems sometimes that I have to fight it to
08:54get it back in place.
08:56In fact, you can also see it ends up popping, not that it pops the joint out completely,
09:01but it doesn't make it straight, so you always have to kind of go in there and fix it again.
09:05He has no boots, by the way.
09:07Kind of thought that he might, but he doesn't seem to be.
09:10He also has an ankle pivot, an ankle rocker, and would you believe, as well, the figure
09:14does have toe articulation as well.
09:16Is he a perfect-looking Billy?
09:18No.
09:19I mean, I feel like there's good indicators here that this figure could have been a perfect
09:24had they maybe made a few little allowances.
09:26What I do like at least, though, is that, first of all, they gave him the extra cape
09:30string.
09:31So if you wanted to leave it off, you could leave it off altogether.
09:34I actually prefer to like to have it on the cape myself.
09:37It does mean, though, that when you are kind of moving the figure around, that little strap
09:40here, the little string piece, does kind of shift around a little bit, and it's not the
09:44perfect around the back of his body.
09:46Obviously, you can kind of fold down the collar and hide a little bit of that.
09:49The color of the yellow is good.
09:51I know in the comics also, too, like the belt coloring and the boots are usually generally
09:55brighter anyways, and he's got the gold accents around it.
09:58The only thing I would say really is, while I do like the head sculpt, I just kind of
10:01wish it was a little bit more narrow.
10:03Squishy face, squishy face, squishy face.
10:05I wish it was a little bit more narrow.
10:07Maybe about like the same size as this version of Shazam, but I do think that there's enough
10:11changes certainly made to this one that the Page Punchers is a superior looking Shazam
10:16to the previous one I've had sort of as my stand-in Shazam for this whole time sitting
10:19on my shelf.
10:20Now, I lucked out finding Page Punchers Shazam.
10:23I was on Amazon, and while I realized that they were having a markdown sale on a lot
10:27of their DC multiverse figures, Page Punchers Shazam, even though it's listed as DC direct,
10:32was also markdown as well.
10:34I think in fact this guy was going down for like $23, and knowing that I already wanted
10:38an updated Shazam in my collection, this guy was added to the cart right away.
10:42All in all, though, it's a better looking Shazam than the one I've had as a standby
10:45for this time.
10:46The colors of the red are a lot brighter.
10:48The yellow is certainly a lot better as well, and that this guy also now is part of that
10:52time frame where McFarlane's kind of shifting the focus over to Fabricapes, so at least
10:57he benefits from having now a Fabricape.
10:59Some may actually find it frustrating, though, that the little string that he has on the
11:02front of his cape has to be a separate applied piece.
11:05I guess they've still done that, though, so if you choose you didn't want to have it on
11:08the figure, you can just leave it off altogether.
11:10I prefer to have it because when I think of Shazam, I always kind of think of that cording
11:13that he has connecting the two parts of his shoulder cape together.
11:16I like the idea of adding it.
11:18It just means, though, because it is a separate piece, it's going to be moving around a little
11:21bit while you're also adjusting the figure's stance.
11:23The head sculpt, again, is good.
11:25I would have liked if they could have maybe given him a smiling mouth as opposed to just
11:28kind of like a neutral expression face.
11:30I clearly know that they went with the direction of going with the Golden Age Shazam where
11:33he had like the squinted eyes.
11:35I just think, though, the head sculpt is a little on the long side.
11:38Other than that, though, I'm really happy with now adding this guy to my collection.
11:41I probably now will be retiring over the other Shazam back into the toast with all the rest
11:45of the figures, sort of now get stuck in purgatory as this one's going to be the definitive that's
11:49going to be with the rest of my DC Universe figures.
11:52What do you guys, though, think of Page Puncher's Shazam?
11:55Or do you still like some of the older Shazam figures that we've gotten from Todd and his
11:58team?
11:59Again, this one was marked down on Amazon.
12:01I don't want to say that it's still marked down and then you guys go over there and say,
12:04oh, wait a minute, wait a minute.
12:05This guy's gone back up to a regular price.
12:07You've led me astray.
12:09I would never lead you astray, or at least not intentionally.
12:12At the time that, again, I bought this guy, he was around $23.
12:14I don't think he's going to still be about that $23 price, and that's also in Canadian
12:17funds, too.
12:18If you guys did, though, enjoy this video, you can do it as well and throw it a like.
12:21You guys want to stick around for more, so?
12:23I certainly hope so.
12:24Hit that subscribe, turn on that bell, and of course, come back.
12:27As always, thanks for watching.
12:29See you guys next time.
