00:00 Hey, check out this mega scream on the mega screen.
00:03 Here's your look at the brand new Mezco Toys Scream Ghost Face MDS Mega Scale figure.
00:08 [music]
00:22 Lock the doors, lock the windows, and don't pick up the phone.
00:25 Ghost Face slashes his way into your collection.
00:27 The mysterious killer known as Ghost Face targets his teenage victims by using horror film trivia as part of his deadly game.
00:33 Time to brush up on your trivia. Your life could depend on it.
00:36 Ghost Face is outfitted in his signature hooded robe and comes complete with hunting knife that fits neatly into his right hand.
00:42 He stands at a menacing 15 inches tall and features 11 points of articulation.
00:47 I'd like to consider myself a bit of a horror buff, but I'm sure this slasher would still find a way to stump me.
00:52 Before, of course, we get a closer look at the Ghost Face, the MDS Scale Ghost Face from Mezco Toys,
00:57 let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
01:00 By the way, as well, I did find this one at Entertainment Earth.
01:03 If you haven't found any chance or haven't had any luck to find this guy out in the wild,
01:07 you can certainly click the link down below in the video description.
01:09 I think this guy will set you back about $94, $99, about $95 when it's all said and done.
01:14 Ghost Face, though, is 14 inches in height, or the figure's going to be about 36 centimeters tall.
01:20 Arbeit for me to start this review on such a negative point, but the thing that really sucks about Ghost Face here is not the way he looks,
01:25 but the fact he's silent. He has no audio clips whatsoever.
01:29 And I bring this to your attention because when we have looked at MDS figures in the past, not all of them,
01:33 but some of them have possessed audio.
01:35 Specifically, some of the Chuckies have had cycled through sound effects and audio clips from the film.
01:40 I think we also, in fact, look at the sound bit version of Jason Voorhees in the MDS Scale that also had audio clips from the film.
01:46 Ghost Face having one of the most recognizable voices in all of horror films,
01:50 you would think that they would have found a way to build in, especially for a $100 figure, build in at least audio.
01:56 A few only cycled through sound effects, maybe screaming, yelling, of course,
02:00 and of course that most iconic voice of him saying something like "Hello Sydney" or at the very least, "Do you like scary movies?"
02:06 Something like that. But unfortunately, the figure doesn't have any of it.
02:09 While not packing audio, though, Ghost Face does still manage to pack his modified Buck 120 knife.
02:14 Mezco did mold this actually in a very hard plastic, painting only it seems to be the handle and painting the end of it as well.
02:21 The rest of the blade, I'm guessing, is probably molded in just the silver plastic, but again, it's a very hard plastic.
02:26 So being careful, of course, when you're putting into his hand.
02:28 It only goes to this side of the figure's body. The other hand is actually more of a relaxed hand.
02:32 Talking about one thing about that other hand, I'll actually mention it more in a moment,
02:36 but putting this into his hand, just be careful that you're not putting pressure against the blade.
02:39 It's that kind of plastic that you know, that kind of plastic.
02:42 If you're putting pressure against it, it's probably going to cause the fracture line to even crack the plastic.
02:46 So just be careful when you're putting it into his hand.
02:48 Like I said, though, it only fits into one of his hands, and that being his right hand.
02:52 You can either have it, say, upright, for example.
02:54 I'm just going to snap it in place like that.
02:56 Or if you prefer, you can also twist the knife around.
02:59 I'm leaning more, I think, to having the figure displayed like this,
03:02 and having Ghost Face actually running with the knife in his hand like this.
03:05 Because I think that looks definitely something more like Ghost Face would actually have.
03:09 Literally, though, on the other hand, he does have just a relaxed hand.
03:12 Now, if you're not going to include audio clips, I'm directing this to the folks over at Mezco Toys,
03:17 why wouldn't, at the very least, they could have included like the audio clip box,
03:20 or the little sound effect voice changing box that he has in the films?
03:23 I mean, that's an ideal hand, and it looks like it's just the right kind of hand
03:27 to accommodate a rectangular-shaped accessory.
03:30 They couldn't find a way to include that.
03:32 So what you only get, unfortunately, is just the knife.
03:34 And I'm sure, at least, at the very least, the knife is enough.
03:37 I'm going to be displaying the figure definitely with the knife.
03:39 We're going to put that to the side for right now.
03:41 If you have collected any of the MDS figures--
03:43 I'm just going to put the figure down here for a second.
03:45 If you have, say, collected the MDS Chucky's, you already know right away
03:48 that this is the kind of build and body that you're going to be getting.
03:51 They're essentially just reusing the same body again when it comes to Ghost Face.
03:56 In fact, if I move back his cloak, lift the curtain up, so to speak,
03:59 you basically can see just a basic Chucky body underneath this.
04:02 Now, they have used this MDS body style before.
04:05 They've used it for the Freddys. They've used it for the Jason Voorhees.
04:08 I really wish that I had those figures to bring back in for the comparisons,
04:11 but I have since sold those out.
04:13 I just had to free up a little bit of space.
04:15 Funny enough, now I'm going back and looking at an MDS figure,
04:17 but it's basically the same build and body,
04:19 other than the fact they just added the little boots down below here
04:21 that, obviously, a Jason Voorhees or Chucky wouldn't have had.
04:24 The actual boots themselves look really good.
04:26 They're just a little bit more stylized and off-proportioned.
04:30 The thing about the MDS figures is the fact that they're always going to have
04:33 really sized heads, really large hands, and kind of squatty little bodies.
04:37 But it works quite well, actually, for Ghostface here.
04:40 The material that they've used for the cloak,
04:42 I could probably best describe as kind of like a parachute material.
04:44 It's kind of got a little more of an elasticity to it.
04:47 You can see kind of the way I'm stretching the material.
04:49 It actually fits and kind of falls on his body in a natural way,
04:52 and it looks really quite good.
04:54 I think they've done a good job on the actual cloak.
04:56 Now, the head sculpt is definitely one thing I think they've done a great job for.
05:00 They've molded it here, I'm guessing, in a white plastic,
05:02 although really, when you're looking at this,
05:04 I'm guessing maybe they probably would have actually, in fact,
05:06 molded this in black plastic and then painted the face over top of it,
05:10 leaving probably just behind the sockets for his eyes,
05:12 the little droopy eyes that he has,
05:14 the little kind of upside-down triangle nose,
05:16 and of course the very long, sagging mouth.
05:19 Very nicely painted here.
05:20 But I'm guessing, again, they probably would have just gone
05:22 and painted the parts in white and left all the remaining parts back in black.
05:25 Now, when it comes to actually the hood,
05:27 the way what they've done for the hood for the cloak
05:29 is that they've attached it to the top of his head.
05:31 So there's really no way to have the cloak hood
05:34 actually falling off the figure's head.
05:36 There's no way. I mean, basically, it's going to be permanently attached.
05:38 Those similar sort of twist ties that you saw at the opener of the review
05:41 that I always like to clip with my little nail clippers
05:44 that were wrapped around his arms, for example,
05:46 and wrapped around his legs,
05:48 it seems to be that kind of same, similar kind of tag
05:50 that they've tagged the top of the cloak hood
05:52 so to prevent, of course, the hood from falling off.
05:54 The thing I really like about the hood is the fact it has a natural drape to it,
05:58 but they've also devised a way to include a wire frame
06:01 all around this area here, all around this area here.
06:04 So not only can you get a really opened area hood cloak,
06:08 but also, as well, you can bend the wire, too.
06:10 I don't want to bend it too extreme,
06:12 because obviously you want to kind of keep it more to like an oval shape,
06:14 but you can bend this if you really wanted to
06:16 and get the desired look that you want.
06:18 The hood does look good, though,
06:20 and I think, again, they've done a really nice job.
06:22 It has the very obvious seam lines there you can see on the top,
06:25 not as much, obviously, for the rest of the cloak,
06:27 and, again, really nicely done.
06:29 He doesn't have, for example,
06:31 if I just bring his arms up here, for example,
06:33 he doesn't have any tattering on the ends of his sleeves,
06:35 but he has those famous kind of triangular drapings
06:37 that he has on the bottoms of his sleeves.
06:39 And, again, when you have the arms up like this, for example,
06:42 you really kind of get the chance to have these shine.
06:44 The bottom of his cloak has the little torn-off sections.
06:47 You can see kind of a little more triangular cut-off pieces.
06:50 So, again, it looks the way it would be in the movie.
06:52 And, again, just to bring back in,
06:54 we're not going to expose his bare legs,
06:56 but you can kind of see as well the way they've sculpted the boots.
06:58 Nicely done here in a black plastic.
07:01 They've even also colored in these side little looplets there
07:04 for, of course, the laces that loop through.
07:06 And, again, they've sculpted.
07:08 He seems to, of course, tie off,
07:10 it looks probably wraps around the tops of his boots a couple of times
07:12 before he makes two bunny ears on either side.
07:14 Again, really nice-looking boots overall.
07:16 Again, the only thing about it is not...
07:18 I don't hate that figure.
07:20 I really like the way he turned out.
07:22 I'm just really disappointed the fact that, of all the characters
07:24 that have done an MDS with audio,
07:26 Ghostface seemed right away like a strong contender.
07:28 Now, for his articulation,
07:30 he is going to be a little bit more limited
07:32 because, again, the MDS bodies aren't really known
07:34 for figures that have a lot of posability points.
07:36 Figure, first of all, he does have a ball joint in his head,
07:38 so I'm glad to see they did find a way to incorporate a ball joint.
07:40 The head can look up really quite high,
07:42 and it can look down about that low.
07:44 You can also, as well, rock the head back and forth,
07:46 and, really, you could twist it all the way around,
07:48 but you're only going to be able to twist it so far
07:50 because, of course, the hood is only going to go so far.
07:52 So, a really nice, decent amount of posability
07:54 for the top of his head.
07:56 It gets a little bit more limited when it comes to his arms.
07:58 He does have a ball joint or hinge joint in the shoulders,
08:00 but you can only really bring the arms
08:02 as squeaky as they may be to about that point.
08:04 So, they go in that far, they go that far.
08:06 That's about it.
08:08 You can rotate them, really, all the way around.
08:10 It's going to make, of course, a lot of squeaky noises in the process.
08:12 If I just roll up the sleeve,
08:14 you can also sort of see the way that they've built in the posability.
08:16 So, there's a swivel joint right here in the forearm,
08:18 and then there's also a swivel joint
08:20 right here in the forearm.
08:22 It's strange that it's right here in the forearm
08:24 and not further down where his hand would be,
08:26 but he still managed to incorporate
08:28 two points of articulation.
08:30 Technically three, really, if you count the shoulders.
08:32 One, two, and three.
08:34 His upper body doesn't have any articulation.
08:36 I mean, it's basically just...
08:38 If I was just to lift back up the cloak here,
08:40 you basically can see it's just a regular body underneath,
08:42 but he does have the swiveling points here,
08:44 and he also can rotate the boots back and forth as well.
08:46 It's a good-looking ghost face.
08:48 I'm someone that likes that MDS scale.
08:50 I love the MDS scale.
08:52 I really, again, wish I still had a lot of my MDS figures.
08:54 It just kind of came to a point where I was kind of getting overrun
08:56 with my collection, and I had to really start
08:58 to reduce the amount of footprint space
09:00 that I had with larger scale figures.
09:02 And unfortunately...
09:04 Let's just fix the cloak here.
09:06 Unfortunately, though, one of the right-of-way casualties
09:08 were the MDS figures.
09:10 I just had to kind of start to get rid of them.
09:12 But I decided to go back and start to collect these again,
09:14 and I wanted to get right away the MDS ghost face.
09:16 It's a lot better, obviously, online
09:18 when we saw those promotional images,
09:20 but I think it still translates in physical hand,
09:22 like right away, like when you get this guy out of the packaging,
09:24 he does have a presence to him.
09:26 I kind of began really being bummed by the fact
09:28 the figure didn't have any audio clips.
09:30 I don't mind.
09:32 If it was a case where the figure had started at $94, $95,
09:34 and by adding the audio clip,
09:36 it would have pushed the figure beyond $100
09:38 to about $150, $120,
09:40 honestly, I probably would have still spent that money more
09:42 on top of it if it meant at least the figure
09:44 had an audio clip.
09:46 By not having it, I feel like you're robbing the figure
09:48 of the one thing that would have made him even that much cooler.
09:50 He looks great the way he is right now.
09:52 He would have looked that much better
09:54 with at least having a button somewhere on him
09:56 where he'd be able to cycle through some of the voice clips
09:58 from the films themselves.
10:00 Funny, as we're looking at MDS ghost face and final looks,
10:02 I just happened to check back at Entertainment Earth,
10:04 and they had a couple of 15-inch MDS scale
10:06 mega ghost face for not mint condition.
10:08 Basically, that just means as they probably came off the truck,
10:10 the boxes were a little bit more dented
10:12 and worse for wear.
10:14 They had a couple of those figures for $59.99,
10:16 and by no surprise, those things sold out right away,
10:18 marking them down by like $20 to $25,
10:20 even $30 difference.
10:22 I can certainly understand why people would have bought those up right away.
10:24 Ghost face, I think, is well worth the price.
10:26 Speaking of the price, though,
10:28 I think they definitely needed to add another $15 to $20
10:30 on top of the existing price,
10:32 and at the very least, add audio clips.
10:34 It doesn't necessarily take anything away from the figure itself,
10:36 as it is for a figure for a stylized version
10:38 of ghost face.
10:40 I don't know how much they would have gotten,
10:42 but it does mean, though, unfortunately,
10:44 he doesn't have an audio clip.
10:46 I only again really say that because we've had gotten
10:48 audio clip versions of MDS Chuckies in the past.
10:50 Why couldn't they have done something similar?
10:52 They probably just would have scaled back
10:54 the production of producing these figures
10:56 by adding audio clips.
10:58 It just means that they have to add, obviously,
11:00 a circuit board.
11:02 They have to add a speaker built into the bodies.
11:04 It's so much easier for them just to really retool
11:06 body, boots, hands, and of course,
11:08 essentially reusing the same mold again.
11:10 That's probably their mindset when it came to
11:12 releasing Ghost Face.
11:14 We could have done an audio clip.
11:16 That's me thinking as a Mezco Toys CEO.
11:18 Yes, we could have very well done an audio clip
11:20 built into the figure's body,
11:22 but it was so much easier to produce a figure
11:24 with the existing bodies that we already have
11:26 in our inventory right now, and simply just add
11:28 a brand new head, add brand new gloves,
11:30 and add brand new boots. I understand that.
11:32 If that's the case, that's fine,
11:34 at least to have included a voice box.
11:36 Ghost Face does have an empty hand on the other side.
11:38 It's a gestured hand, but the hand also could have
11:40 very well held a voice changing box.
11:42 I think that's something that they could have also
11:44 added with this figure above and beyond just giving
11:46 him the knife alone. What do you guys think of the figure?
11:48 Let me know down below in the comments section.
11:50 Have you guys collected any of the MDS Megascale figures
11:52 from Mezco Toys? If you have,
11:54 let me know down below in the comments section what those figures were.
11:56 If you guys are interested also as well to get this one
11:58 for yourself, the non-Mint versions
12:00 have already sold out, but I think the regular
12:02 Mint versions of Ghost Face are still available
12:04 on their site, and by using also that link down below
12:06 in the video description, will save you 10% on anything
12:08 that's currently in stock on their site.
12:10 If you guys enjoyed this video, I want to hit it with a like.
12:12 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing,
12:14 and you certainly would like to stick around for more,
12:16 if you haven't already done so, make sure you hit that
12:18 subscribe button down below, and you're turning on as well
12:20 the bell notification. Of course, as always guys,
