00:00 Welcome to DriveSpark, I'm Vedant Johari and what I have behind me is the Kia Sonet facelifted
00:11 version.
00:12 So, let's see what all comes new in this facelifted version of the Sonet and not just the exteriors,
00:18 but the interiors as well.
00:19 [Music]
00:47 Starting off with the front end of the Sonet, firstly, as you can see, it comes in this
00:52 beautiful matte graphite finish.
00:55 Now, in the front, we get this newly designed grille and not only that, the DRLs that we
01:02 have here are a Starmap DRL and it looks really, really nice.
01:06 Also, the indicators that we have are integrated with the DRL, just creating this really, really
01:12 nice look on the front end of this car.
01:14 Also, something else that we have new here are these really sleek fog lamps that we have
01:19 and this supposedly gives an even better vision than what we had on the previous version of
01:26 the Sonet.
01:27 Now, on the front end, on the bonnet that we have, we have these really nice grooves
01:31 on either side which just creates this sort of lifted centre on the bonnet, creating that
01:37 most sporty appeal, that most sporty aesthetic on this car.
01:41 Also, in the front, we have a camera located right on top of the windscreen and we have
01:46 one right in the centre of your grille.
01:49 Now, these cameras, you have surround view, you have 360 degree view for when you are
01:55 in tight situations and that.
01:57 So, to actually see this, once we go into the interior, we can show you how it looks
02:01 with the 360 degree view.
02:03 Just below the grille that we have, we have these really nice grooves also on this panel.
02:08 Now, this really from afar, you can't see it but once you come closer, you can really
02:13 see these grooves and so that just creates this really nice aesthetic on the car.
02:18 So, now the headlights that we have, we have these sort of three parts of the headlight
02:22 and that, when you're driving at night time, it really gives you that throw that's required
02:29 and the full beams that we have are even stronger than what we saw on the previous version.
02:33 Now, coming to the side view of the Sonet, as you can see, we have this really, we have
02:37 a much more sporty stance, a much more muscular stance than the previous version of the Sonet.
02:43 Now, this stance claimed by Kia also gives better aerodynamics for when you're driving
02:49 at higher speeds.
02:50 Also, at the side, we have this side view mirror which is in a piano black finish with
02:55 an integrated indicator over here.
02:57 Also, we have a camera located on either side of the side view mirrors right at the bottom.
03:03 The ground clearance that we have, as you can see, it's quite high off the ground and
03:07 the previous version of the Sonet came with around 205mm of ground clearance and this
03:13 one is also around the same.
03:15 Now, we took this for slight off-roading, not too extreme, a very mild off-road section
03:21 but in that off-road section, there were a few ruts and there were a few elevations.
03:25 However, bottom of the car did not scrape at all and it actually managed to tackle that
03:31 with ease.
03:32 Now, the front and back wheel that we have are both 16 inches and it comes with these
03:37 diamond cut alloy wheels which look really, really nice.
03:40 Again, enhancing the whole sporty aesthetic and everything of this.
03:44 All four wheels of this car, front and rear, come with disc brakes and now that is a super,
03:50 super important safety feature that Kia has included on the Sonet and now this version
03:54 that we have is the X-Line which is a top-end variant.
03:58 However, the lower variants come with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.
04:01 So, now the door handles that we have are also in the body colour of this which is in
04:06 the matte graphite and the only thing that's in a different colour that we have are the
04:12 window covers over here and the roof rails over here but this is not a roof rail where
04:16 you can actually store stuff, that is an additional feature you will have to opt for.
04:21 Beyond that, if you look anywhere on the exterior of the car, you will not find a single chrome
04:26 insert and for me personally, I really like that.
04:30 Whereas in most of the modern cars, you do find chrome inserts on the door handles or
04:36 few small places around the car but here, you don't even find a single chrome insert
04:41 and I really like that.
04:43 Looking at the rear section of the car, first, near the rear windshield, we have these again,
04:48 really nice grooves on the side, again, enhancing the whole sporty appeal, the whole sporty
04:53 aesthetic of this and over here, at the back on the top, we have an integrated roof spoiler
04:59 which is in the same colour again as the rest of the car, the matte graphite.
05:03 Now, the Kia Sonet has been redesigned to be a little more sportier and a little more
05:08 stronger.
05:09 Now, with them including the spoiler, the small grooves located all over the car and
05:14 the diamond cut alloy wheels, you can really get that sporty feel of this and it really
05:19 brings that whole element out of the car.
05:21 We have this really, really beautifully designed brake light which is connected in the centre
05:28 and this is not just a fake piece, this also lights up when you're pressing the brake,
05:34 so that is really nice and we have this really big Kia badging over here in a brushed aluminium
05:40 finish with the Sonet badging here and the X-line badging on the other side.
05:46 Also located right under the roof spoiler is another brake light that we have here.
05:51 So, in terms of safety features, even on the rear, they have really done a good job as
05:57 if you're closing into the car, you'll obviously catch something that's standing out, either
06:02 the brake light that comes in the centre or the reflectors.
06:06 Now, also that we can see on the rear, Kia has taken some design inspiration from some
06:12 of their other models.
06:13 I don't want to take names but as you can see, it does resemble a few other models that
06:19 are still in the market right now.
06:21 So, now on the top of the car, we have the shark fin antenna and on the top, we also
06:26 have grooves over here for if you ever need to store luggage and add your proper roof
06:31 rails over here.
06:32 Now, coming to the boot space of the Kia Sonet, so, as you can see, it's a massive boot that
06:41 we have here and exactly 385 litres of boot space.
06:47 An SUV having 385 litres of usable boot space is really, really good.
06:53 As you can see, we have two small bags in here, it's barely taken up any space in the
06:58 rear, you can still fit a lot more, on top of that, you can fit suitcases as well and
07:03 you'll be very, very comfortable in this.
07:16 So moving to the interior of the Sonet facelift, so, as you can see, we have this really nice
07:23 dual-tone finish seats with a black on the top and this really nice grey at the bottom.
07:28 Also, we have ISOFIX points over here on either side.
07:31 Now, looking at the legroom and the headroom, so, I am 6 foot 1 and I can sit comfortably
07:37 in the rear.
07:38 I have a lot of space at the top and I even have space in front of my knees, so I can
07:42 recline as well like this, sitting extremely comfortably.
07:46 Also, the seat comfort is tremendous on this.
07:49 Now, looking at the rear, we have this air purifier over here, which can be controlled
07:54 from here and we have two vents for, if there's someone sitting here, you can control their
08:00 vent and for me as well, I can control my vent.
08:03 On top of that, we have a small storage unit located at the bottom and we have two USB-C
08:09 to type charging points.
08:10 Also, we have a small storage space on the handle over here and at the bottom of the
08:15 door over here.
08:17 Also, you get these standard seat pockets in front of you and on the passenger side,
08:22 you also get a seat pocket on top over here.
08:24 Now, one more thing, in the rear, you also get these sun curtains over here.
08:29 For when it's a very sunny day, you can always block out the sun and sit comfortably inside.
08:33 And also, you get an armrest over here, which comes with two cup holders.
08:38 So, all in all, you get whatever a rear passenger needs in the Kia Sonet facelift and that is
08:44 really, really good.
08:45 So, now, moving to the front of the Kia Sonet facelift.
08:55 Firstly, we get ventilated seats for both the driver and the passenger.
09:00 You get this really nice X-line badging on the seat.
09:03 Plus, for the whole sporty feel, you get this red stitching on the dual-tone finish of the
09:08 seats.
09:09 What else do you get in the front?
09:10 You get a 10.2-inch infotainment system, you also get a 10.2-inch cluster.
09:14 You get four AC vents in the front, one on the passenger side, two in the centre and
09:19 one on the driver side.
09:20 Wireless charging over here, you get a small storage unit over here, a Type-C charger and
09:25 a USB-A port over here.
09:27 Also, you get a 12-volt charging socket in the centre as well.
09:31 Now, beyond that, you get all your climate controls right here in this really nice aluminium
09:37 finish and below that, you get your ventilated seat option, rear parking sensor, your driving
09:43 mode, traction control and the ventilated seat controls for the driver's seat.
09:48 On your rear-view mirror, you get an SOS button, your roadside assistance button and you get
09:55 the Kia Connect button.
09:56 On the instrument cluster that we have, we have a full digital display.
10:01 You get your distance since your last reset, the time driven since the last reset and your
10:07 average fuel economy.
10:09 Now, this car gives approximately around 12-13 kilometres per litre and that is really nice.
10:16 So, now on the instrument cluster, other than your base view, you also get your navigational
10:24 symbols, you get your tyre pressure monitor, you get the view of the car for while you're
10:31 driving and all the obstacles around you and other than that, that is pretty much it.
10:36 Also, when you switch it into the manual mode when you're driving, your display changes
10:42 into a much more sporty display.
10:44 Now, also on the steering wheel that we have, we have these two paddle shifters in the rear
10:49 for your manual mode.
10:50 Also, you get this really nice sporty steering wheel with a really nice tactile feel on it.
10:57 Also, this steering wheel has this, again, for the whole sporty aesthetic, has this red
11:02 stitching all over it with a really nice sonnet badging underneath.
11:06 Now, other than that, you get controls on your steering wheel such as your volume controls
11:13 to change your radio station or seek your track.
11:16 You also get to control your instrument cluster from here, cruise control and a lot more options.
11:23 Now coming to your infotainment system, it's a touchscreen infotainment system and you
11:27 have a whole lot of features on this such as map, your phone projection, climate control,
11:34 media, regular settings, notification, Kia Connect and a whole lot of others.
11:40 Also, right below your infotainment system are controls if you don't want to utilise
11:46 the touchscreen.
11:47 You can control most of the settings from here.
11:49 As I mentioned when I was talking about the exterior of the car, I'll show you the 360
11:54 degree view.
11:55 Now, looking at the infotainment system, on the small right side of the infotainment
11:59 system, you have your 360 degree view.
12:01 So you can see what's in front of you on the side and what's behind you.
12:07 So this is a really, really good safety feature that's incorporated on this car.
12:11 Now, the speakers that come in this car are powered by Bose and that is really good.
12:16 The clarity of the sound system is top notch.
12:19 Now, coming to the storage space in the front of the car.
12:22 So you get your centre glovebox over here.
12:26 It doesn't have a lot of storage space but an adequate amount of storage space for all
12:29 your small belongings.
12:31 Now, beyond that, the glovebox on the passenger seat comes with much more storage space than
12:37 the centre one and you can fit a lot more here.
12:40 Also, you get storage space on the driver's side, near the door at the bottom and near
12:47 your handle and on the same thing for the passenger side.
12:50 Also, you get storage space in the centre and two cup holders also over here.
12:57 Also, you get, the Sonnet facelift comes with traction control and that for when you're
13:03 driving on off-road situations can really come in handy.
13:06 So if your traction control is coming in the way, you can always switch it off and continue
13:11 driving on whatever terrain you're on.
13:13 Speaking about the whole performance aspect of this, I'll talk about that once you're
13:17 actually driving the car on the road so we can see how it actually performs.
13:21 So now we're inside the Kia Sonnet facelift, driving the car and so the ride feel of this
13:35 is really good.
13:36 It has a premium ride feel.
13:39 The suspension setup has been done up, it's from the previous version, it's been softened
13:44 a little bit but you still feel the firmness that's there.
13:48 So when you're driving on high speeds or when you're cornering, you don't feel the car's
13:51 unstable, you still feel it extremely stable, you feel it planted to the ground.
13:55 So what all engine options come on the Kia Sonnet facelift?
13:59 Well it comes with three engine options, two petrol and one diesel option.
14:03 It comes with a 1.0-litre petrol, a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5 CRDI diesel engine.
14:09 So the one that we're driving now is the 1.5 CRDI diesel engine.
14:13 It has, this engine puts out around 115 PS which for your brake horsepower is around
14:19 114.5 brake horsepower and it puts out a whopping 250 Nm of torque and when you really step
14:27 on the throttle, you really, you can really feel that pull of the engine.
14:32 So for transmission options, you get an IMT, 6-speed AMT, 7-speed DCT and you also get
14:40 a full-blown manual transmission option.
14:43 The one that we're driving now is the 6-speed automatic and it is really, really good.
14:49 However, when you want your quick shifts, this does not give it to you.
14:54 If you're using it on manual mode or even on automatic mode, when you're using the paddle
14:57 shifters, you do feel like a 0.5 second lag between each shift.
15:02 So it's not like the car revs between each lag, it holds the rev, it holds the rev and
15:07 only after that you feel the gear shift.
15:10 So that is something that Kia could look into in terms of the transmission and also from
15:16 0-100, the acceleration is really good.
15:19 Apart from that, the ADAS features that we have on this, so it comes with level 1 ADAS
15:24 and this is the top-end variant.
15:26 So the top-end variant comes with 25 safety features.
15:29 So some of the ADAS functions that we have on this are your lane keep warning, your lane
15:34 departure warning, front collision warning.
15:37 So it has a blind spot monitoring system also, so when you're switching between lanes or
15:42 when you're taking a turn with your indicator on, depending on whether you're left indicator
15:46 on or right indicator on, you get this small pop-up on your instrument cluster showing
15:51 what's there on the left and what's there on the right.
15:54 So that just helps in actually being safe when you're switching between lanes because
15:59 you can't always look back to see what's there when you're in motion.
16:04 So instead of that, on the instrument cluster, you get to see what's in your blind spot.
16:08 So with all these ADAS functions and with all four disc brakes, the Sonet facelift is
16:13 honestly a very, very safe car.
16:16 Now, with all of these safety features, what do you think the pricing is like?
16:20 Well, the previous Sonet, the top-end variant was launched at 14.8 lakhs ex-showroom.
16:26 So this one, Kia said they're going to be pricing it very aggressively.
16:30 So I'm guessing this one could be around the 15.5 to 16 lakh range ex-showroom.
16:36 And that, with the features that you get on this, is a really, really good price.
16:42 And yeah, so that was the ride feel of this car and everything, right from your steering
16:48 wheel, your steering response, your throttle response, your braking response, it's all
16:53 top-notch.
16:54 So it's a really good drive and it's a really good family car to own.
16:58 So if you're looking for a car in a reasonable budget with a lot of the safety features,
17:03 the Sonet is a car that you could keep in your option list.
17:07 So this was the Kia Sonet facelift.
17:13 I hope you liked the video and I hope you like the new features that they've incorporated
17:18 in this car.
17:19 Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe.
