00:02 Proposals for a Rail Innovation Centre near Chesterfield are set to go ahead,
00:07 creating full-time job and training opportunities for local residents.
00:10 Planning permission has been granted for the Derbyshire Rail Industry Innovation Vehicle, or
00:16 DRIVE, a modern rail innovation and training centre set to be located next to the historic
00:21 Barrow Hill Roundhouse. The centre will provide workshop and classroom space to support specialist
00:26 industry training, research and development facilities, as well as commercial space for
00:31 rail-related businesses, bolstering Chesterfield's bid to be a leading destination for the rail sector.
00:37 Estimated bill costs for the centre stand at around £4 million, with funding being provided
00:43 through the Staveley Town Deal. DRIVE is expected to create around 24 full-time jobs, and five years
00:49 after opening it aims to support around 270 trainees, allowing local people to access highly
00:54 skilled careers in the rail industry. Chesterfield Market horse Sam has sadly passed away after a
01:02 peaceful retirement. A gentle chestnut giant who became a much-loved sight in Chesterfield Town
01:07 Centre, Sam passed away at the age of 30. He had spent the last 13 years enjoying his retirement
01:12 at a farm near Apennall. Sam was one of three horses that were an attraction at Chesterfield
01:18 Market between 1980 and 2012, alongside Captain and Ben. The horses helped with the collection
01:24 of rubbish from the market and were popular both with tourists and local residents.
