00:00 Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05 It's a cold start to the morning and bright for some before cloud rolls in from the south-west.
00:11 Even so, still showers continue across northern and western parts of Scotland,
00:16 wintry over the highest ground and some patchy frost to start the day where we've seen clear skies,
00:21 particularly across the glens of Scotland, northern England also getting off to a bit of a chilly one.
00:26 Over Northern Ireland always more clouds extending down towards Wales, the south-west midlands,
00:31 south-western parts of England, central-southern England, but towards the east a bright morning,
00:35 a chilly one with some sunshine.
00:38 So through the morning we watch as this cloud continues just to make inroads eastwards.
00:43 These showers here will persist through the morning and still we have a strong wind towards Shetland
00:49 as well as Orkney and a bit of a breeze coming in across the western side of Scotland as well.
00:54 However, through the morning a few things change.
00:57 The showers tend to fade through the day and any sunshine becomes a bit more hazy
01:02 as this cloud slowly pushes eastwards.
01:05 Most places dry, particularly across eastern and southern parts of Scotland,
01:09 Northern Ireland, England and Wales, but notice towards the north-west.
01:14 That cloud will thicken even further and eventually we'll see some outbreaks of rain,
01:18 particularly affecting the north-west highlands, but it will become persistent
01:22 across northern and western parts of Scotland through the latter part of the day.
01:25 Now, across England and Wales the cloud will be thick at times where you catch some brightness,
01:30 at the best some hazy sunshine, as temperatures reach 7 to 9 degrees Celsius,
01:35 but a wet and windy evening to come across western Scotland.
01:39 So through Wednesday evening and overnight the air turns a lot milder
01:43 across the northern and western part of the country.
01:46 Again, outbreaks of rain extending towards Shetland as well as Orkney.
01:49 Patchy rain and drizzle for the southern uplands, the Pennines,
01:52 the higher grounds of Northern Ireland, Welsh mountains down towards the west country.
01:56 Further east that cloud thickens all the while and so temperatures not as low as the night before,
02:02 but even so still around 4 or 5 degrees Celsius, but notice towards the north,
02:06 8, 9, 10 degrees Celsius to start Friday.
02:10 And Friday will be cloudy generally and with that the rain will be persistent
02:14 across western areas of Scotland.
02:16 Now this wind will be fairly strong, hopping over the highlands,
02:19 it will turn gusty across the highlands as well as Pennine districts
02:22 and more persistent rain extends across Scotland into Northern Ireland through the afternoon.
02:27 But these temperatures will be on the high side.
02:29 Added to the fern effect we could see 14 degrees Celsius for the Moray Firth as well as Aberdeenshire.
02:35 Now the air across Scotland will wax and wane between mild and cold through the weekend.
02:40 You can see here this front brings with it more cloud across England and Wales,
02:44 but for Scotland yes a gusty wind and a few showers,
02:47 but some brighter weather particularly towards more eastern areas.
02:50 Before, yet again, the cloud it thickens with this warm front bringing milder conditions,
02:55 a breezy day on Sunday and outbreaks of rain towards the north.
02:58 See you later.
02:59 the north. See you later.
