00:00 Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05 Some lively weather outside this morning in terms of an active cold front bringing squally
00:10 rain.
00:11 The Met Office has issued warnings for rain and wind.
00:13 This is your rain warning extending from the Severn Estuary, central southern England,
00:17 all the way up towards Fenlands as well as East Anglia covering London.
00:21 And then a wind warning further south.
00:24 Gusts here could reach along the coast 60-70mph associated with this rain band.
00:30 But even across this area here you could see gusts up to 50mph with any heavier bursts.
00:36 Now through this morning a rash of showers continues across the western side of Scotland.
00:40 Some showery rain, heavy at times, across eastern Scotland down towards northern England
00:45 and a few showers running in across Northern Ireland.
00:48 But this is this active cold front.
00:50 You can see lots of heavy rain associated with it.
00:53 We could see one to three hours of heavy rain as we head through the morning.
00:56 And more heavy rain weighting the wings moving in from the west country approaching central
01:00 southern England.
01:01 Some pulses of rain and one or two heavy showers also for eastern counties.
01:06 Now as I said this rain is also squally so expect some strong gusts.
01:12 And we could see some thunder, lightning and hail as well.
01:15 Same goes for the showers towards the north.
01:18 They could be heavy with snow over the hills and mountains.
01:21 And again the risk of hail and thunder.
01:24 Now through Thursday morning this morning you can see where the rain is.
01:27 It's approaching eastern counties.
01:29 So unpleasant conditions if you're driving.
01:32 And then another pulse just moves in across central southern parts of the country through
01:36 this afternoon.
01:37 Elsewhere, some clearance across Wales, northern England.
01:41 Some brighter skies for north east England, eastern counties of Scotland.
01:45 And these showers running in across northern Ireland.
01:47 Again they could be heavy, wintry over the hills.
01:50 A similar situation for the western side of Scotland.
01:52 Some frequent bursts here.
01:54 But further showery bursts likely across eastern counties through the afternoon.
01:58 Again some intense pulses likely.
02:01 Temperature struggling a little bit after a bit of a frosty start towards the north.
02:04 Temperatures 5 to 6 degrees celsius further south at 7 or 8.
02:08 Eventually that rain clears but replaced by showers across the south west and further
02:13 showers running in on a cold north west wind across Scotland and northern Ireland.
02:18 Two also for northern England.
02:20 Snow over the Pennines and a few down towards Wales where again across the Welsh mountains
02:25 we could see some wintriness.
02:27 Temperatures really taking a tumble through into Friday morning.
02:30 The risk of a frost, a cold start to the day.
02:33 At least though there will be some broken cloud through Friday and also some brighter
02:38 weather.
02:39 But showers never too far away.
02:41 So this is your outlook through Friday.
02:43 You may run into a shower pretty much anywhere.
02:45 But the frequent bursts will always be towards the west and you can see quite wet down towards
02:49 the south west of England clipping the south coast.
02:52 Further heavy showers across the north and the west of Scotland.
02:55 A few running in also across the central belt where you could see some wet weather around
03:00 lunch time.
03:01 A scattered affair when it comes to showers across northern England.
03:04 A little sunshine coming through from time to time.
03:07 So yes, yet another fairly unsettled day but not the persistent and heavy rain we're likely
03:12 to see through Thursday.
03:14 Temperatures will be around average leading into a cold day on Saturday.
03:19 But at least there will be some sunshine and fewer showers after a frosty start.
03:23 Bye bye.
