00:05 >> Tonight it just seemed that the guys continue to be competitive down to
00:08 the stretch.
00:09 What does it say about the competitive nature that these guys have?
00:13 >> Yeah, I think particularly they started really, really hot.
00:16 And we hung in there, we were really in the game,
00:21 which I thought was important.
00:25 Grounded our way back into it.
00:26 And as you said, it's just that we compete like that, we're gonna be in games and
00:31 good things are gonna happen.
00:33 >> What did you see from DeAndre, who had a big game off the bench?
00:39 I know he's still in it, but shot it great and looked like he's old soul.
00:42 >> Yeah, it's good to have him.
00:45 Even if it's not as much as we'd like right now.
00:48 The most important thing is just back playing.
00:51 And as I've said before the game, we can ease him back,
00:58 if that's the right word.
01:00 Just he didn't look like he was easing anything tonight,
01:04 which is really important.
01:05 He's not saving himself.
01:07 I just think when he's aggressive, offensively early,
01:10 shooting the ball, it opens a lot of other things up for him.
01:15 He's able to attack the rim.
01:17 He hit a few really important mid-range jump shots as well,
01:21 which he can do.
01:21 So a lot of good things that he did tonight.
01:24 And I haven't talked about his defense yet, which is always really consistent.
01:28 And particularly it's a team like the Clippers that have so
01:33 many big wings to have him out there, it's important.
01:35 >> Coach, you challenged a couple calls tonight.
01:39 Most of the time it works out in our favor, but
01:40 it seems like you look to your players to trust them.
01:43 What are you looking for in those moments when you make those challenges?
01:46 >> There's so many things that go into it.
01:48 One player may feel that he didn't foul, but then you see the tape and
01:54 someone else has their hand on his hip and the other guy fouled him.
01:59 Or those challenges, you want them when they are most crucial.
02:05 But again, I get it.
02:09 You try to play percentages where it can give you the most benefit.
02:18 And you'd like to have them late too in case something is there.
02:22 So it's a hard one.
02:23 You get congratulated for a challenge and maybe that one situation is good.
02:29 But there are also other things that go into it.
02:32 Are you taking points off the board?
02:34 Is it someone's third or fourth foul that you want to have?
02:39 There's a lot of things that go into it.
02:41 We've done the math and tried to figure out exactly what makes the most sense.
02:44 And there are some situations that even if you feel like you're gonna win
02:49 the challenge, it doesn't make as much sense because you don't get as much out of it.
02:55 So that's a long answer, but oftentimes you want to listen to the players.
02:59 And sometimes they're right, but they also don't have,
03:04 they're playing in the moment.
03:07 It's really hard to know what's going on exactly.
03:12 >> Offensively not Jalen's strongest night, but
03:16 it didn't seem like he let that affect his defensive performance.
03:19 I'm curious what you saw from him on that end and
03:22 what his approach to the game is like.
03:24 >> Yeah, I mean, you hit it right on the head, Lorna.
03:26 I think that's really important and
03:30 probably as much as anything when he was out, we missed his defense and his rebound.
03:35 So I know it's hard.
03:37 There's some plays that he'll make, and he has made.
03:41 We want him to continue to make, sometimes the ball doesn't go in.
03:47 And those guys, they're big long defenders back there as well, but
03:52 he didn't let it bother him, as you said, and continued to compete.
03:55 >> Coach, a lot of this Clippers team has been playing together for a little bit,
04:00 but James Harden is the one new piece.
04:02 What's he added to that team to just kind of unlock their offense and
04:06 make them even harder to stop?
04:08 >> He's so poised, and he's shooting the ball really well.
04:12 I don't know what he was from three.
04:13 He had a six for nine, so it's really hard to prevent that shot
04:20 because of his step back and his size, so he gives them another dimension.
04:25 And he's so unselfish.
04:28 I think their team collectively to have such a group of guys that
04:35 various times in their career have been the guy.
04:39 And for them, clearly they sacrifice for one another.
04:44 That makes them even better collectively than they are individually, and
04:47 that's a credit to them and a credit to Ty.
04:49 >> With no clink appellate tonight, obviously Bruno Fernando gets some minutes.
04:54 I know the stat line may not jump out to you, but
04:57 what did you see out of his minutes tonight?
05:00 >> Yeah, I mean, his activity defensively,
05:04 I thought there was a couple buckets that we dropped off to him earlier that didn't
05:09 go, but similar to what we said about Jalen, he just kept playing and
05:13 impacted the game other ways.
05:15 And then he was able to get a few more opportunities and finish with authority.
05:19 >> Thanks, coach.
