00:00 So, in the world of electric motorcycles and ICE motorcycles, have you guys ever heard
00:09 of an electric bike that comes with a clutch, a 4-speed gearbox, a liquid cooled motor?
00:15 No right?
00:16 Nor have I.
00:17 But now, finally, Mata has launched the Aera 5000 and the Aera 5000+.
00:24 Welcome to Drivespark, my name is Vedant Johari and let's take a closer look at what we get
00:29 on this new electric motorcycle.
00:31 So, starting off with the front end of the Mata Aera 5000+.
00:44 So as you can see, we have the very, very aggressively styled headlamp, which has a
00:49 single piece unit and a DRL surrounding it and it comes with these really nice shrouds
00:54 over here and the tank shrouds that we can see from the front end.
00:57 Also, it comes with a telescopic suspension in the front, connected to disc brakes and
01:01 the disc brakes are on a 180/17 inch tyre.
01:05 We also get single channel ABS on this, only the front wheel comes with ABS, not the rear wheel.
01:10 So moving on from the front, on our tank, the shrouds that we have also hold the indicator.
01:15 It's very, very nicely integrated, extremely smooth with the design.
01:20 And moving on, we get this sort of triple tone finish I'd say, black, white and red.
01:26 And now this again, this adds to the whole sporty appeal, the whole sporty aesthetic
01:30 of the motorcycle.
01:31 Now, the tank that we have is flared out in the front and it sort of bulges out from the
01:36 centre, again, enhancing the whole sporty aesthetic of the motorcycle.
01:40 Then we get a split style seat on this and the seat comfort is tremendous.
01:44 It's not at all uncomfortable.
01:45 I'll come to that more when I'm talking about the riding impressions.
01:49 And right at the bottom of our tank, we also have our charging port.
01:53 Now, all you do is press it to open it out and then press it again to close it.
01:59 Now, moving on to the rear design of this, just in front of our rear seat, we have these
02:06 forged air vents.
02:08 They don't play a part in helping the performance of the motorcycle, it's just there for aesthetic
02:12 purposes.
02:13 And at the rear, we get this really sleek design grab rail, extremely stiff, not at
02:20 all uncomfortable.
02:21 And at the back, we get a tail tidy.
02:23 Now, a tail tidy coming on a motorcycle right from showroom, I love it.
02:28 And below that, we have a mudguard over here to protect anything from flying up and hitting
02:33 the pillion or the rider on the back.
02:36 So looking at the design on the tank, it has a 07 badging and we also have the 07 badging
02:41 on the main rider seat.
02:43 Then on the side, we have the Mata logo over here and on the main tank is where our era
02:48 5000+ is written.
02:50 Now, the Mata era is available as the 5000 and the 5000+.
02:54 This is the 5000+.
02:56 At the rear, we get twin shocks and the rear wheel that we have is a 130/80 17-inch wheel.
03:02 So the rear wheel also comes with a disc brake, but that comes without ABS.
03:06 You really don't need ABS for the rear wheel, except for if you're really understanding
03:10 the bike and you aren't used to riding that often.
03:13 So looking at the handlebar, it comes with a clutch and a gearbox.
03:16 Now that is something we have not seen in any electric motorcycle in India or around
03:21 the world.
03:22 Now coming to the performance of this motorcycle.
03:24 Well, the Mata era 5000 is powered by a 5 kilowatt hour battery that puts out 10.5 kilowatts
03:32 of power or 14 bhp and around a 500 Newton meters of torque.
03:38 And that is straight to your rear wheel.
03:40 So that is wonderful.
03:41 You can really feel the power being put down when you're in sports mode.
03:45 So coming to the whole seating position and what we have on our display of this motorcycle.
03:56 So talking about the seating position of this.
03:58 Well, as you can see, I'm 6 foot 1 and I am extremely comfortable on the motorcycle.
04:04 I'm not out of place.
04:06 I'm not very aggressively positioned.
04:08 I'm not very relaxed.
04:10 I'm in the adequate city riding position or as this motorcycle is launched in the commuter
04:14 segment, I also feel like I'm riding a commuter.
04:18 I don't feel like I'm on a completely new motorcycle.
04:22 And everything that you need to use for your TFT is all in hands reach.
04:28 Your controls are right here.
04:30 Then if you need your indicators, everything is perfectly placed.
04:33 You don't need to look down.
04:34 You don't need to move around to actually find what you're pressing.
04:38 So that's a huge plus point on this motorcycle.
04:40 So the display that we have, even that is perfectly placed for when you're riding.
04:45 As when you're riding, you're sitting like this and you really don't need to look down
04:49 or like move in front to see the display.
04:52 The way they've calibrated the whole screen brightness, the whole, the vision for your
04:56 TFT is wonderful.
04:58 When I was riding it under harsh sunlight, I did not struggle to see what was shown.
05:02 I could see everything with ease and I didn't have to struggle.
05:05 On our display, we have a lot of features such as, we have three riding modes on this
05:10 - Eco, City and Sport.
05:13 And for your range, in Eco range, you get around 120 kilometres or 125 as Mata claims.
05:20 And if you get into City mode, that's going to drop to around 95 to 100 kilometres.
05:27 And in Sports mode, it takes a huge drop down to around 65 to 70 kilometres.
05:33 Now for example, when I rode the bike for a good 30 kilometres stretch only on Sports
05:37 mode, I dropped down from 80 to 30 percent like that.
05:41 So that is something that could be reworked on by Mata.
05:46 But other than that, the bike's performance is top notch.
05:49 So the seat comfort is wonderful.
05:53 I'm not at all straining my lower back.
05:56 I'm not, I don't feel any pain on my body.
06:00 I'm very comfortable.
06:01 The footpegs are positioned also really well and the tank gives you very good grip.
06:07 However, I feel it flares out a little too early as there is a slight gap between your
06:12 thigh and your tank.
06:14 But obviously, once you start cornering and getting your body out in certain positions,
06:19 the gap tends to disappear and your leg takes the shape of the tank.
06:22 It's not really a minus point, not as a plus point, it's still really comfortable to use.
06:26 So now as this is an electric motorcycle, let's talk about the charging time of this.
06:31 Well, so, if you're using a regular charger, it takes around five and a half hours for
06:37 a full charge.
06:38 But if you're using Mata's fast charger, it only takes an hour and a half for a completely
06:43 full charge right from zero.
06:46 Now one and a half hours for 100% is brilliant.
06:50 That's almost what you see on phones nowadays.
06:52 And something super, super interesting about this is, so when you're charging the motorcycle,
06:57 you don't need any fancy charger or any fancy charging point for it.
07:01 All you need is a three pin socket that you have at your house, the same socket that you
07:06 use to charge your phone, laptop or even plug in your TV.
07:10 So that's all you need to charge this.
07:12 You don't need to go out of your way to pick up something and then use that, connect that
07:16 to something else.
07:17 You just need a three pin socket and you are good to go with this motorcycle.
07:26 So a very helpful feature that also comes in the Mata Era 5000 is that it comes with
07:30 a park assist.
07:31 Now you might be wondering, what's park assist?
07:33 Well, it's nothing but a reverse gear.
07:36 So all you need to do is when you're in first gear, slide up on your dash and your park
07:40 assist is engaged.
07:41 Just give a little throttle and your bike will start moving back.
07:43 Now this really helps when you need to park your vehicle or if you're in an incline and
07:46 you need to go upwards, reverse.
