00:13 shoes packed like that.

00:14 I'm the gear editor here at Afar.

00:16 I've lived in New York for 18 years

00:18 and can see the gum, dirt, and grime that builds up

00:21 on the bottom of my shoes.

00:23 During my travels, I've gathered sand from Bali on my flip flops,

00:26 mud from Iceland's trails on my hiking boots,

00:29 and red dust from the deserts of Jordan on my sneakers.

00:32 It's why I don't let my boots, sneakers, flats, or flip flops

00:35 touch anything else inside my luggage.

00:38 It's not that I'm convinced the germs on my shoes

00:40 are going to make me sick.

00:42 It's more of the thought of all the crud on your soles

00:45 coming in contact with your clean clothes, your toiletry

00:47 bag, or even a hat that touches your head.

00:50 If you've made it this far, you're

00:51 probably ready to pick up some travel shoe bag stat.

00:54 The quickest fix are plastered grocery bags

00:57 or large Ziplocs.

00:59 But there are a few sturdier and more sustainable options.

01:02 One free option is using the small cloth drawstring bag

01:06 that some companies use instead of a paper or plastic shopping

01:09 bag.

01:10 If you're looking for something more water resistant than a

01:12 cloth shoe bag, Baggoo's 3D Zip Set

01:21 The smallest one isn't big enough for shoes.
