00:00 Cold, hard cash. Who needs more of it?
00:03 For some, just as time last year,
00:05 the cash flow was strong.
00:07 Oh yeah, it was good, right?
00:09 Others may have had a light breeze
00:12 that blew in some pocket money every once in a while,
00:15 but nothing could have stopped the cash flow faster
00:19 than this global pandemic.
00:20 That's why today I'm calling together
00:23 this Superstar Money Summit to give you five ways
00:26 to increase your cash flow today and tomorrow.
00:30 (upbeat music)
00:31 Meet the superstars, Nicole Lappin,
00:34 Lynette Calfani-Cox, and Rick Edelman.
00:37 With 10 personal finance books,
00:39 in the bank bestselling author Rick Edelman
00:41 has been named one of the country's
00:43 top 10 financial advisors by Forbes Magazine.
00:46 I started my radio show 28 years ago
00:49 to bring the secrets of Wall Street to Main Street
00:52 because I truly believe that the secrets to wealth
00:55 are not just for the rich.
00:57 Using Rick's advice, millions of regular folks
01:00 have learned to retire with a million dollars.
01:03 Oh, I've advised everyone from Oprah Winfrey
01:06 on her TV show to my own auntie,
01:09 and today I'm coaching you.
01:11 Financial expert and New York Times
01:13 bestselling author, Nicole Lappin,
01:16 went from living paycheck to paycheck
01:18 to calling herself a rich you know what,
01:21 and now she's helping others do the same.
01:23 I believe that true financial success comes from balance.
01:27 Nicole teaches budgeting and saving
01:29 in her online personal finance course, Money School,
01:32 but she's also a huge proponent of always leaving room
01:35 in your financial diet for some fun.
01:38 People say to me all the time,
01:39 I cut out the morning latte, I am doing so great,
01:42 and then four months later,
01:43 they're like I bought this expensive purse
01:46 because I didn't buy the latte.
01:47 And I say hello, Captain Obvious,
01:49 if you just got that latte every day
01:51 you would keep yourself motivated and on track.
01:55 I'm Lynette Kalfani Cox, and I'm the money coach.
01:58 Former Wall Street Journal reporter
01:59 and contributor to dozens of news programs,
02:02 with a flair for super relatable advice,
02:05 it's no wonder Cox is one of the most
02:07 highly sought after financial experts.
02:10 She paid off $100,000 worth of credit card debt
02:13 in just three years, and since then has used her skills
02:16 to teach millions about money management.
02:19 I don't think that most people look in the mirror
02:21 and see a wealthy person, but we all can be,
02:24 and we're gonna show you how.
02:26 They sure are, they're all here today,
02:30 whether you wanna stop living paycheck to paycheck,
02:32 or need extra cash to pay off debt,
02:34 these money superstars have ways
02:36 to put cash in your pocket today.
02:38 So why is understanding cashflow so important?
02:40 Get this out there.
02:42 Understanding cashflow is so important
02:43 because you wanna know where your money is coming to
02:45 and where your money is going.
02:46 And ideally we have more money coming in
02:49 than we have going out, right?
02:50 But that's not the reality for so many of us.
02:53 So think of your cashflow like a river, right?
02:56 Sometimes it goes really fast.
02:58 Sometimes it goes really slow.
03:00 The same thing with cashflow.
03:01 Sometimes it ebbs, sometimes it flows.
03:04 But as we understand our money more,
03:06 as we understand savings and spending,
03:09 we can really play with those levers,
03:11 the pull and push, so that we can keep flowing
03:14 and not end up in financial hot water.
03:16 It feels so much better when it's flowing.
03:18 It just gives you confidence.
03:19 Like being on a raft, you're actually going somewhere.
03:21 All right, now Rick says the first way
03:23 to increase your cashflow, and this is really important,
03:25 is to turn your junk into another man's treasure.
03:29 I've got it right here, but Rick,
03:30 I metaphorically, I built you a treasure chest here.
03:32 And I want you to look in here carefully.
03:34 - I love it.
03:35 - How do we do this?
03:36 - Well, you know, it's really easy, Dr. Oz.
03:38 A really easy way to get cash
03:40 into your pocket almost immediately.
03:41 You know, they say one person's junk
03:43 is another person's treasure.
03:45 So get rid of your junk and collect the gold.
03:47 You can try sites online like Poshmark
03:50 or ThredUP for clothes.
03:52 Declutter takes all your old electronics,
03:55 outdated stereos, TVs, your old cell phones
03:57 you're no longer using,
03:59 and you can sell them on that site.
04:01 At Facebook Marketplace, you can vend items
04:04 that you own based on your location.
04:06 It's ideal for selling larger items
04:08 like furniture or car parts
04:10 without having to fuss over shipping.
04:12 And it spreads the word
04:13 to your local social media community.
04:15 But good old-fashioned garage sale
04:18 works really well too.
04:19 - I see more of them these days.
04:21 I think that's an endorsement of them.
04:23 So we've got a guest of the show, Samania,
04:26 who's in need of quick cash,
04:27 but has trouble letting go of things.
04:29 So we're gonna be issuing her a little challenge.
04:31 So Samania, are you with us?
04:32 How do you feel about going through your house right now
04:35 and doing what Rick Edelman just recommended,
04:37 finding three things right now to sell
04:39 so you can collect this treasure chest
04:42 where the cash is sitting up in your attic?
04:45 - Hi, Dr. Oz.
04:46 Yes, I have so many things just laying around my house
04:51 that I don't use anymore.
04:53 And if I could just sell them and make some quick cash
04:57 opposed to throwing them in the trash,
04:59 that would be awesome.
05:01 - All right, here's the challenge now.
05:03 You got a few minutes.
05:04 I want you to go up to your attic,
05:05 go through your garage.
05:06 When we come back, I wanna see what you can be selling
05:09 to bring this into your life,
05:10 to get that cash flow that Nicole spoke of
05:12 back into your life flowing a little faster.
05:14 Deal?
05:15 - Okay, that's a deal.
05:17 - I'll be right back.
05:18 All right, Nicole has the next way
05:19 to increase your cash flow.
05:20 It's to rent your car, your parking spot,
05:23 make money from your dog.
05:25 You can rent your parking spot?
05:26 - Totally, and they're really lucrative
05:28 if you live around a transportation hub
05:31 or if you live around a stadium.
05:32 You can use sites like Boxcar or Spot Hero.
05:36 You can also rent your car.
05:37 We're not driving a lot of places right now.
05:39 So Getaround or Turo are good apps that you can use
05:43 to rent out your car when you're not using it.
05:45 And Khaleesi, I'm just saying.
05:47 - Hi puppy, my dog Khaleesi.
05:48 - You know, she gets some free rent, right?
05:51 Like, she has a good life.
05:52 - She does.
05:53 - It's time to start making money off your dog, I think.
05:56 We take zillions of pictures of our dogs, right?
05:58 You can sell those to stock image websites
06:01 and make some quick money.
06:02 You already have the pictures on your phone anyway.
06:05 And if you're thinking about getting a dog,
06:07 you know dogs are expensive, right?
06:09 So you can test it out and also make money at the same time
06:12 by becoming a dog sitter.
06:13 - All right, Lynette, you've got something
06:14 you could rent out for extra cash.
06:16 What is it?
06:17 - That's right.
06:18 You can rent out your house.
06:20 And frankly, it doesn't even have to be a house.
06:22 I've done that with my house here,
06:24 but you can have an apartment, a condo, a townhouse,
06:27 whatever, because you're gonna be renting it out
06:29 to folks who are shooting things like videos, films,
06:33 photography, shoots, et cetera.
06:35 I've had somebody do a music video here.
06:38 So whatever the type of production or event,
06:41 you can use your house, rent it out for a couple of hours,
06:44 make some cash.
06:45 - A little known secret.
06:46 Believe it or not, when we do magazine photo shoots,
06:48 we do that exact same thing.
06:49 We don't need the house for the whole day.
06:51 Rent it for a couple hours.
06:52 I never actually realized how that works.
06:54 So simple.
06:54 Thank you for sharing it.
06:55 All right, up next, an iPhone hack
06:57 that can save you hundreds.
06:59 We're showing you step-by-step
07:00 how to tap into this extra cash.
07:02 That's next.
07:03 We are back with another Superstar Money Summit,
07:05 giving you five ways to increase your cashflow
07:07 today and tomorrow.
07:09 Rick says the next step is to increase your cashflow
07:12 by milking the gig economy.
07:14 Please explain.
07:15 - Yeah, we don't have to have a nine to five job
07:17 to make money.
07:18 You can do it on a part-time basis.
07:20 And there are apps now, Dr. Oz,
07:21 where you can download to your phone
07:23 apps like TaskRabbit, Thumbtack, or Fiverr.
07:27 You can list yourself and your skillset.
07:29 Think of it like, you know,
07:30 the modern day yellow pages or classified ads.
07:33 And it's perfect because you can squeeze in extra work
07:36 on your own time without any big commitment.
07:39 And you don't have to give up your full-time career
07:42 to do it.
07:43 Hanging pictures or whatever.
07:45 You can even ask for positive reviews,
07:47 which will generate more business for you
07:49 that'll increase your demand
07:50 and get you right to the top of their lists.
07:52 - So Victoria took a page out of Rick's playbook,
07:54 has picked up extra work doing dog walking.
07:57 Pretty straightforward, right?
07:59 And she says it changed her life.
08:00 Take a look.
08:02 - Hey, Dr. Oz, my name is Victoria.
08:05 In March, 2020, I was laid off from my corporate job
08:08 due to COVID.
08:09 I decided to then follow my dreams and become a model.
08:12 I signed with an agency here in New York City,
08:14 but was still really struggling to make ends meet.
08:17 When income and stability and security
08:19 are taken away from you,
08:20 you really have to take a second
08:22 and think about what you have left here,
08:24 what you can offer to the world, what are your gifts?
08:27 And so I had to do that.
08:28 And then every day I had to get up and hustle.
08:30 I have several side hustles.
08:31 One of them is dog walking as well as dog sitting.
08:34 And then I have a side business
08:36 called The Kindness Grand By Bee.
08:37 We are a handwritten telegram, personalized home service.
08:41 I don't know what I would do without my side hustles.
08:43 They gave me a second chance
08:45 during a really difficult time,
08:46 and I would not be in New York City
08:48 following my dreams without them.
08:50 - So proud of you.
08:52 Lynette has our next way to increase cashflow.
08:55 It's to unsubscribe.
08:56 Now, Lynette, you say many of us are paying monthly fees
08:59 on subscriptions we don't even know we have.
09:01 Right, so how do we check?
09:03 - Well, you know, we are in really a subscription economy.
09:07 And if you think about it,
09:08 so many folks are on dating sites,
09:10 they're checking their credit reports,
09:12 they are getting subscriptions for magazines,
09:15 food services, a whole host of things.
09:18 So you can certainly check your credit card
09:20 or your debit card statements,
09:22 but you can also use apps and services.
09:25 A couple of them are asktrim.com and trubill.com.
09:30 They'll both kind of do it for you.
09:33 Basically, they have software
09:34 that scans your credit card statements, for example,
09:37 and it looks for recurring payments.
09:39 So then they can alert you to say,
09:41 "Hey, do you still wanna keep paying,
09:42 "you know, 9.99 a month, 19.95 a month for that?"
09:45 And chances are there's something on there
09:47 that you do actually want to cancel,
09:49 and that's a way to increase your cashflow.
09:52 - So I got another hack for you to pay you back.
09:54 I discovered a new little trick.
09:55 You can check your subscriptions
09:57 that you signed up for on your phone
09:59 by going into the settings,
10:00 just to follow along with this,
10:01 then click your photo and your name,
10:03 and then click subscriptions.
10:06 And there it is.
10:06 You're gonna see any apps with recurring charges.
10:09 You can figure out if you really want 'em or not.
10:10 Let's check back now with someone, Nia,
10:12 who's been deciding what she could part with
10:14 and sell for extra cash.
10:16 So what'd you find?
10:17 - So, Dr. Oz, the first thing I found
10:20 was this really cool blender.
10:24 It's a quick mixer.
10:26 Put your stuff in, shake it up,
10:29 and it's like quick, especially when you're in a rush.
10:33 And I'm also a board game junkie,
10:37 so I have so many different board games around my house.
10:41 This particular set comes with 101 board games.
10:46 I mean, if you like to play games,
10:48 you're bored in your house,
10:49 especially around now with nothing to do,
10:52 this would be ideal.
10:55 - I am proud of you.
10:56 Then you go get some money now, right?
10:59 - Yes, right.
11:00 - Move that stuff along.
11:01 All right, up next.
11:02 You need more cash?
11:03 A lot of you do.
11:04 You may have thousands,
11:05 I mean it, thousands of unclaimed dollars owed to you.
11:09 Yeah, when we come back,
11:10 you're gonna find out how to access it,
11:11 how to find it, how to get it.
11:12 But first, it's a TikTok savings hack
11:15 you need to see to believe.
11:17 Let's talk about an easy way to save money.
11:19 This is in your checking account at the end of the day.
11:21 You're gonna move the last digit into your savings account.
11:23 Do this every day and you'll barely feel it.
11:26 Look at this.
11:26 After seven days, I was able to save 24 bucks.
11:29 Times each week, that's a total of $1,248 a year.
11:33 We are back with another superstar money summit,
11:35 giving you five ways to increase your cashflow
11:38 today and tomorrow.
11:40 And we're on to our next method
11:41 is to check if you have unclaimed money.
11:43 Now you heard me right.
11:45 You could have money out there that is owed to you.
11:47 You don't even know about it.
11:48 Mary Pittman, also known as America's money angel is here
11:51 and sharing the secrets to finding your free money.
11:54 Mary, take it away.
11:55 It sounds a little too good to be true.
11:56 How do we actually find out if you get the money and get it?
11:59 - It's very easy.
12:01 You go to unclaimed.org
12:03 and check any state you've ever lived in.
12:06 It will take you to the right area.
12:07 It is free to search and free to claim.
12:10 This money can be forgotten savings accounts,
12:13 refunds, rebates, utility deposits,
12:15 life insurance payouts, or retirement plans.
12:20 - So let's all do this together.
12:22 Again, I'm sort of surprised
12:23 that we could all have cash lying out there.
12:25 How much money is unclaimed in America?
12:27 Do you know?
12:27 Is it a lot?
12:28 - About 58 billion.
12:31 - 58 billion dollars?
12:33 - Yes, sir.
12:34 - Well, I'm gonna do this then.
12:37 All right, so I've never tried it before.
12:39 So we're gonna go to unclaimed.org.
12:42 I'm doing it with you all right here, right?
12:44 And then you can, there's the map.
12:46 Click on your state.
12:47 I live in New Jersey,
12:48 but again, I've been in other states too,
12:50 Pennsylvania, you know, anyway.
12:52 It just takes me to New Jersey's unclaimed fund registry.
12:55 I just searched my name.
12:57 Now I was told to search my last name, Oz,
13:00 and then my first name, Mehmet,
13:01 but I could also reverse it
13:02 'cause one of the reasons
13:03 I might not have gotten the money was
13:05 maybe they thought my last name was Mehmet,
13:06 not a surprising mistake.
13:08 And then I search and, oh my goodness, wow.
13:12 I do have unclaimed funds.
13:14 You guys all seeing this?
13:16 Mary, do you know how much I have total?
13:18 - Well, as a matter of fact, I do.
13:20 And as you pointed out,
13:22 playing with your name and reversing the name
13:24 and trying other variations, here's what happened.
13:28 The state told us that there was one listing for you
13:32 for $5,000, but with playing with your name,
13:36 I found an additional $12,000,
13:40 which comes to a total of $17,000 for you, Dr. Oz.
13:44 - I have $17,000 lying around that I didn't know about
13:48 and no one told me?
13:49 - Yes, sir, you do.
13:51 - Oh my goodness, I'm pretty meticulous.
13:53 - And if Dr. Oz can have money like that, everybody can.
13:58 - Darn right.
13:59 So let's do this.
14:00 I'm gonna actually, I'm gonna follow through on this.
14:02 So if I can get that $17,000, which is my pledge right now,
14:05 at this unclaimed money that's really mine,
14:08 I'm gonna take it, I'll give it to charity, right?
14:10 The money wasn't doing any good
14:11 sitting around there anyway,
14:12 so I'm gonna take it and put it towards a cause
14:14 dear to my heart.
14:15 It's my charity, Health Corps.
14:17 You've probably heard of it.
14:18 And it's dedicated to teaching teens all across the country
14:20 how to improve their physical and mental health
14:22 so they can be happier and more productive.
14:24 So it's better use of the money
14:25 than sitting in a bank somewhere
14:26 where no one knows whose it is.
14:29 - Oh, that is so awesome.
14:30 I'm so glad that that money can benefit people.
14:33 - In fact, if you say there's $58 billion out there unclaimed
14:36 I think everybody could hear my voice right now,
14:39 should be checking.
14:40 It could be a hundred bucks.
14:41 It could be a lot more.
14:42 And who couldn't use a little extra
14:44 in their pocket right now?
14:45 It doesn't take much time.
14:46 So here's what the deal is.
14:47 I'm gonna put a link on droz.com
14:49 to the site where you can see if you have unclaimed money
14:51 owed to you right now.
14:52 And then I'm gonna go get my money
14:54 and I'll let you follow my story along.
14:56 So I'll post that video there too.
14:58 So you'll see if it's as easy as Mary says.
15:00 Mary, God bless you.
15:00 You are a little money angel, aren't you?
15:02 (Mary laughs)
15:04 Thanks for being here.
15:05 - I love doing this.
15:06 You never know who's struggling financially.
15:09 Can I throw out one more tip
15:10 that is never given on this topic?
15:12 - Please, a pro tip.
15:13 - If you're looking for a life insurance policy
15:19 and you haven't been able to find it,
15:21 under last name, look under estate of,
15:24 for the estate, to the estate, beneficiary, executor.
15:29 In New York alone, estate of will bring up
15:32 over 38,000 listings that are not searchable
15:35 just by the name.
15:37 - So this is money left to you by somebody else.
15:39 If you just look for it.
15:41 Guys, come on.
15:42 There's literally free money out there
15:44 that was designed for you.
15:45 It's yours.
15:46 It's completely legit.
15:47 Go get it.
15:48 All right, make sure you check out,
15:49 make out her wonderful little book,
15:51 "The Little Book of Missing Money,"
15:53 as she just described it.
15:54 Thank you for watching.
15:55 Don't forget to subscribe and turn on notifications
15:57 so you never miss out on new videos
15:59 to live the good life.
