00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:08 And welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix. I'm Brad Perry.
00:15 And I'm Lexi Romano.
00:17 Today on the show we are going to be talking about the need for speed because
00:21 you can't get behind the wheel of a race car but you're in luck with the new entertainment you can.
00:26 Wait, can you really?
00:27 Yes, it's Mario Andretti. Now you can get behind a go-kart race car.
00:31 Ah, okay.
00:32 If you like Mario Andretti but you can't get behind Mario Andretti.
00:34 I mean sometimes when I'm driving here on the 101 it feels like I'm on a racetrack because, you know,
00:39 that's how people drive sometimes in the morning.
00:41 They do.
00:42 If that's you watching, drive safe.
00:45 Plus we are all about getting you those healthy and delicious recipes.
00:50 And today registered dietician Kristen Carley has three amazing dishes using pistachios and pomegranate juice.
00:59 Do you think she puts them together?
01:01 Hmm?
01:02 Like are they, do you soak the pistachios in pomegranate juice?
01:06 Ooh, we're going to find out.
01:07 We're almost there.
01:08 But I think you are right.
01:10 Really?
01:11 Yep.
01:12 Ooh, okay.
01:13 I saw a little paste out there.
01:14 A paste?
01:15 Yes, a pomegranate paste. So maybe she is mixing them together.
01:17 A pomegranate pistachio paste.
01:18 Ooh.
01:19 Say that three times fast.
01:20 All right, speaking of engines, get ready to start your engines ladies and gentlemen because NASCAR races are almost here
01:25 in Phoenix Raceway and are very at Phoenix Raceway.
01:28 And our very own Teresa Strausser is out there to get the scoop.
01:31 Hey Teresa, good morning to you.
01:33 Teresa, how you doing?
01:34 Good morning.
01:37 It's so great to see you guys and I hope you'll do me a favor.
01:40 Could you just let me know if any cars are coming because I really don't want to get hit out here.
01:44 Apparently they go between 140 and 150 miles per hour.
01:49 Actually today is what they call a dry day at the racetrack, meaning there won't be any actual races.
01:55 But there are going to be 500 kids from all around the valley coming out here to Phoenix Raceway to learn about STEM.
02:03 This is the first time they've ever done this and I'm so excited to be here.
02:06 I'm going to talk to the president of Phoenix Raceway.
02:09 We're going to talk math, science, and we're going to talk how she became the president.
02:14 I think only countries have presidents, but apparently racetracks have them too.
02:18 So we're excited to talk to her.
02:20 And Lexi, be careful out there on your commute because I understand that you do feel the need for speed.
02:25 I do feel the need for speed.
02:27 And Teresa, I was going to say we finally got a woman president down there at the Phoenix Raceway.
02:33 Perfectly in time for the International Women's Day.
02:36 That's tomorrow.
02:37 That's great.
02:39 Thank you. Exactly. International Women's Day is tomorrow.
02:43 March is Women's History Month, so it's a great time to be talking to Latasha Kazi.
02:47 And I can't wait for you guys to meet her.
02:49 She's amazing. Any cars coming? Any cars coming?
02:51 Not yet. No, you're good. You're still good.
02:54 Alright, thanks Teresa. That's awesome.
02:57 Good to see you guys.
02:58 Absolutely.
02:59 Alright, we'll check back in with her.
03:00 That's great. That looks so fun out there.
03:02 It's going to be good.
03:03 Alright, let's do some trending. Brought to you by Gerber and Giroir.
03:06 And this is thank you to Gerber and Giroir for sponsoring this Cars Arizona Daily Mix.
03:10 Absolutely.
03:11 Last night was a big finale, right?
03:13 Last night was a big deal.
03:14 So, I don't know if you guys, I mean I'm literally in a room with all dudes.
03:18 So, I don't know if anybody in here watches Love is Blind.
03:21 But I am a huge fan. I've watched all of the seasons.
03:25 And last night was the season finale of season six.
03:28 And we got to see two couples walk down the aisle last night.
03:32 And only one of them actually said I do.
03:35 But I want to talk about all of the couples throughout all of the seasons who are still together.
03:40 So, if you don't know the show, the premise of the show is a bunch of people get together
03:44 and they meet in these rooms that has a wall in between them.
03:48 So, they can't see what each other looks like.
03:50 They talk. They get to know one another.
03:52 If they fall in love while they're in the pods, as they're called,
03:56 then they get engaged and they meet in real life.
03:59 And then the show follows them as they kind of like meet each other in real life,
04:03 live together for a couple of weeks and then eventually go to the altar.
04:06 So, what's crazy about the show is that it is a real experiment.
04:10 Netflix is behind it. Netflix produces it.
04:13 And there are several couples who met in the pods who are still married and happy today.
04:19 So, I wanted to tell you a couple of the couples.
04:21 We printed out all of them but maybe we won't get through all of them because there's actually quite a few.
04:24 So, Lauren Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton.
04:27 This was the super, super cute couple from season one.
04:30 Did you ever watch it?
04:31 Nope.
04:32 Why? You don't watch it?
04:34 All right. You're not going to appreciate this as much as I do.
04:37 But Lauren and Cameron were kind of like the favorite from season one.
04:43 And they're an interracial couple which is really beautiful.
04:46 They are still together today and apparently they are trying for a family.
04:51 How many seasons are there?
04:53 There are six seasons total.
04:54 So, last night was the sixth season.
04:56 That was season one. There's another couple still together, Amber and Matt.
05:00 From season two, no one is still together. Zero.
05:05 So, at the end of the season, they're supposed to get married and everything like that?
05:09 Or are they just supposed to be courting each other, like engaged?
05:11 They're supposed to get married at the end of the season.
05:13 The whole tagline of the show is, "Will they get married or will they say goodbye?
05:18 Will they say I do or will they say goodbye forever?"
05:20 So, that's kind of the whole tagline.
05:22 So, it's really fun to watch them fall in love when they can't see each other and then see each other.
05:28 When they see the person, they're like, "Oh my gosh."
05:29 And some of the couples, it really doesn't work out.
05:32 Because if you loved talking to this person and thought they were great,
05:36 but then you meet in real life and you're like, "Oh no."
05:38 There is no physical connection, no chemistry.
05:41 Sounds like my ex-wife in there.
05:43 No, just kidding.
05:44 And then when she saw me, she was like, "Oh."
05:47 So, okay, no. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding, Anne. I'm just kidding.
05:50 Some of the other couples who are still together would be Alexa and Brennan from season three.
05:55 We have another favorite couple, Tiffany and Brett from season three.
05:59 So, speeding through this here because we're running out of time.
06:02 But one of my favorite couples from this season, I'll just get to season six,
06:05 was Amy and Johnny.
06:08 And they are the only couple from season six who made it to the altar and said, "I do."
06:13 And they're from different places? Are they from the same town?
06:16 They do it in the same city every time.
06:18 So, like this past time they were in Charlotte, North Carolina.
06:21 They've done it in Texas. They've done it in a couple different cities.
06:24 Maybe they'll do one in Phoenix. I don't know.
06:26 Not like either one of us will be on it. Maybe. Well, I don't know. Not me, at least.
06:30 But, yeah, so it's really fun. It's a great show.
06:33 Highly recommend. If you have plenty of time, you can go home and binge all six seasons.
06:36 There it is. On Netflix, right?
06:38 On Netflix, yep.
06:39 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored by Wickenburg Conservation Foundation.
06:47 Keeping our state beautiful is everyone's responsibility.
06:52 We are so honored to have Jeanette Laird here to talk about Wickenburg and their clean and beautiful committee.
07:00 Thank you so much for being here, Jeanette.
07:01 Oh, thanks for having us. We're really excited.
07:04 So, I was saying before that I actually have not been to Wickenburg.
07:08 So, can you tell me a little bit about you guys and what makes you so special?
07:11 Yeah, you should come and visit.
07:13 So, Wickenburg is a rural town, very western, and it's set in the heart of the Sonoran Desert.
07:19 So, it's a really special place.
07:22 We're lucky that we have water in the desert, which is always fun, but we have the Hacienpa River.
07:28 So, we have an area called the Box Canyon, and it's the Box Canyon-Hacienpa River corridor
07:33 where we have water running through, lots of public lands for equestrian, off-roading, biking, mountain biking, hikers.
07:42 So, our goal as a committee is to try to keep those areas clean so they're safe for people to come and visit
07:49 and provide a really great atmosphere for them.
07:52 It sounds like an incredible area to go to visit and an incredible area to live.
07:57 And you live in Wickenburg, is that correct?
07:59 We do, yeah, I do. And it is a beautiful city. We absolutely love this city.
08:04 So, tell me a little bit about the actionable steps that you're doing in the committee to make this a reality.
08:10 I know you have your pack in, pack out. Tell me about some of the things that you're doing.
08:14 Well, Wickenburg Conservation Foundation, we're celebrating our 25th anniversary this year.
08:19 Congratulations.
08:20 And under that brand, we also have the Wickenburg Clean and Beautiful, and we have a desert awareness program.
08:26 So, Wickenburg Clean and Beautiful works with the community through volunteers, 100% volunteers.
08:32 We have monthly cleanups of areas that tend to get trash in them, but we've come a long way education-wise
08:38 by the desert awareness program in educating youth and adults on keeping the area clean
08:45 and taking responsibility for our public lands.
08:48 So, we have ambassadors that work at that trailhead on Saturdays and Sundays,
08:53 and they hand out bags for trash and encourage people to pack it in, pack it out.
08:59 And they just do a phenomenal job doing that.
09:02 Absolutely.
09:03 And then our child programs, we go into the schools, and we go into the community center and teach adults,
09:09 and we teach them all different areas of the Sonoran Desert.
09:12 So, we do water, groundwater, animals, plants, cacti.
09:20 You really cover the gamut of all the things.
09:22 Yeah, leave no trace, and the trash.
09:25 And then another thing we've been able to do is the Box Canyon during COVID got pretty bad.
09:30 Oh, no.
09:31 That's really when we kind of kicked up that, and we got a big dumpster outside of that trailhead.
09:36 There's over 60,000 people a year that use that corridor with off-road vehicles, hikers, and equestrian.
09:43 So, it's really popular.
09:45 So, we put a big dumpster out there, and now we have much more trash going into the dumpster than on the trails.
09:52 In fact, last year we had 60,000 pounds go into the dumpster.
09:56 Oh, my goodness.
09:57 No, I'm sorry, 20,000 pounds go into the dumpster.
09:59 That is incredible.
10:00 Yeah, and then volunteers did another 3,000 pounds of trash.
10:04 So, it's really cleaned it all up.
10:06 It's gorgeous.
10:07 And if you think about that amount of trash that went into the dumpster that was cleaned up by your volunteers,
10:12 can you imagine that being out on those public lands if that dumpster wasn't there?
10:17 Right, exactly.
10:18 That's incredible.
10:19 And now that's done so well, and people are doing so great that we've moved into other recreational areas within Wickenburg, too.
10:27 So, we're able to spend our efforts there, too, and it's really made a huge difference.
10:32 Well, I have to just point out that I absolutely love what you're wearing today.
10:36 You look great.
10:37 I love the jewelry.
10:38 Is that something that is the kind of style that people will see when they come out to Wickenburg, that very Western, very old Arizona feel?
10:46 It very much is.
10:47 I have a lot of turquoise from my family that's always lived in Arizona, and I didn't wear it a lot, but there I do.
10:54 So, it is very much a Western town.
10:56 It's got a great Western feel.
10:58 We have a beautiful museum.
10:59 We have lots of restaurants and gorgeous hiking trails.
11:03 So, there's several different hiking areas and off-road vehicle areas.
11:07 That's great.
11:08 It's beautiful.
11:09 And what about the Mesquite Festival that's coming up?
11:11 Oh, yeah, April 20th.
11:12 That's part of our Desert Awareness Program, and that will be held at the Ahacianpa Preserve, and it's free to people,
11:20 and it teaches you all about the mesquite tree, the beans that are on it, how you can make flour out of them.
11:25 They have samplings and tastings, and it's really a fun class to go to, and we do other ones, too.
11:32 Oh, absolutely.
11:33 How great.
11:34 So, you are out making the community look beautiful, cleaner, and you're educating everybody about how gorgeous our desert is
11:41 and all of the amazing things that we have here.
11:44 We are, and it takes a community effort.
11:46 It's great.
11:47 It's a whole bunch of people working behind the scenes.
11:49 Absolutely.
11:50 Jeanette, thank you so much for telling us all about that today, and the information was there on your screen.
11:54 If you want to get involved, if you want to learn more, you can go check that out.
11:57 Thank you again.
11:58 Thank you.
11:59 All right, guys.
12:00 After the break, Teresa is giving us a look at what's happening out at the Phoenix Raceway, so make sure you come on back.
12:05 [music]
12:14 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored by Wickenburg Conservation Foundation.
12:19 [music]
12:33 Well, race weekend is upon us, but before the races start, their engines, Phoenix Raceway has opened its track to a special event happening all weekend.
12:41 Oh, yeah, and our very own Northern Arizona Daily Mix host, Teresa Strasser, is out there to give us a look at how the raceway is getting ready for the big weekend,
12:49 and she's talking with a special guest.
12:51 So, Teresa, how's it going?
12:52 [music]
12:55 It's going great.
12:56 Thank you so much, guys.
12:57 I'm here with somebody who's very, very special.
13:01 Latasha Kazi has made history.
13:04 You are looking at, as of last November, the first black female president of a NASCAR track in history.
13:12 Congratulations.
13:13 Thank you so much.
13:14 I'm so excited and so excited to have you here.
13:16 I know you didn't grow up in a NASCAR family.
13:19 What would 18-year-old you have thought if someone had said, "You're going to be the president of a NASCAR track when you grow up"?
13:26 I would have said, "Yeah, right."
13:28 I don't even know at 18 if I actually knew what NASCAR was, so I definitely don't think I -- that was not on the to-do list, that's for sure.
13:37 Have you started driving any faster since you started working here?
13:40 Be honest.
13:41 No.
13:42 I haven't, but you know what the crazy thing is, is that I actually am more cautious of, like, you know, driving and all of those types of things because I'm out here so much and so often,
13:51 whether it's my track or others, and you feel the adrenaline.
13:54 So when you're in a regular car, you're just kind of, like, smooth sailing now.
13:58 LaTosha, you're a local.
14:00 You're from here.
14:01 You went to ASU.
14:02 How did you end up in this gig?
14:04 Yeah, so actually it was the previous track president, Julie Giese.
14:07 She and I met when she first came here to Phoenix, and Julie is the one who even got me interested in NASCAR and coming to my first race about five years ago.
14:17 I was really coming just to support Julie.
14:19 When, you know, she left to move to Chicago, she's like, "What do you think about taking on the president of the raceway?"
14:25 And honestly, not something that I thought I would do or thought that I would have the opportunity to do, but I am so grateful for it, and there's just so much going on here at the raceway.
14:35 When she took you here and you saw your first race, do you remember your initial impressions of NASCAR?
14:40 100 percent.
14:41 I mean, so, you know, the impressions of NASCAR prior to coming to a race were a little different than they were when I actually came to a race.
14:48 So before, I mean, you see what you see on TV.
14:51 There's just certain things about NASCAR that you maybe have heard in the past, but coming to my first experience, that was not at all what I experienced.
14:59 And I'm like, "There's nothing like a NASCAR race."
15:02 There is something for everyone, and of course I got the VIP treatment, and so I was sold after my first race.
15:08 Describe the vibe and the ambiance for people.
15:10 I know you have races Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
15:13 What are they going to experience when they come out?
15:15 Yes, there's a little something for everyone here at the raceway.
15:18 You have everything from a family zone, a NASCAR experience for kids.
15:22 We have our first ever Viva La Fiesta that we're bringing to the raceway this year, really celebrating the Latin culture.
15:29 We'll have all kind of programming in there as well.
15:32 Then, of course, you have the racing.
15:34 We also have a partnership with Go!
15:36 Boeing.
15:37 We have the professional PBA out here for the weekend as well.
15:40 So, I mean, seriously, there's just a little bit of everything for everyone.
15:43 Our campers have been here since Monday, and so we want to make sure that they are entertained and that they have something to do the entire time.
15:50 What does it mean to you to have made history in this way with NASCAR?
15:55 Yeah, you know, it really means everything to me.
15:58 To be able to have made history in NASCAR's 75-plus year history, to be the first black woman to run a track, has been amazing.
16:04 I've also been just embraced, not only by NASCAR, but the community holistically.
16:09 You know, NASCAR is on a national scale, so the amount of people that contact me regularly just reaching out to say, "Hey, we're here to support you," but then at the same time, just like, "Hey, we're here cheering you on."
16:20 And so it just comes with an obligation to make sure I'm not the last, and I'm doing everything that I can to open up NASCAR, open up Phoenix Raceway to everyone.
16:29 I'm just smiling ear to ear.
16:32 I know that we're going to be talking about this in depth later on in the show, today's STEM program, where 500 kids from around the Valley are going to come here to learn science, technology, engineering, math, as it pertains to racing, but that's one of the initiatives that you started.
16:47 Where were you coming from with that?
16:49 Yeah, well, first of all, I have to thank my team, because I always feel like I have these brilliant ideas, you know, and you know it takes a team in order to make it happen.
16:56 And really where I was coming from, from that, I was born and raised here in Arizona and never been to the Raceway.
17:02 So I wanted it to be different for kids.
17:04 I didn't come to the Raceway until I was an adult.
17:06 So how do we get kids involved earlier?
17:08 Nothing better than bringing them out here on a field trip program.
17:10 Most of these kids are coming from Title I schools, schools that you know that would never have the opportunity to come here.
17:15 And then they're all over the Valley, from Chandler, everywhere, here coming to the Raceway.
17:20 So really, it was just us opening up our race, our sport, to the community here.
17:25 Latasha, thank you so much.
17:27 Congratulations on your presidency, madame.
17:30 Before I let you go, how can people find out how to get tickets?
17:35 Yes, well, we are almost sold out.
17:37 So they got to get them really fast and go to phoenixraceway.com.
17:39 We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend.
17:41 Thank you so much, Latasha Kazi.
17:43 Back to you guys, Brad and Lexi.
17:45 That's awesome. Thank you, Teresa.
17:47 I will talk with you later in the show.
17:49 Coming up tomorrow, I will be talking a little more in depth with Latasha and getting a ride with her from around the track.
17:55 That sounds great.
17:57 Coming up, guys, find out how you can win tickets to a spring training game.
18:01 And you're going to want to listen because the contest is ending soon.
18:04 So stay tuned.
18:05 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
18:16 [music]
18:22 All right, welcome to the second half of the Arizona Daily Mix.
18:25 Still to come, Phoenix Raceway has some great community events happening this week.
18:29 And Teresa is getting the inside scoop.
18:32 Yeah, so of course it's race weekend here in the Valley.
18:36 And we got the NASCAR coming twice.
18:38 So we got it coming this weekend and then back for the championship in the fall.
18:43 Oh, nice.
18:44 Nice for us.
18:45 Plus, if you want to feel like a race car driver, well, I have the place for you.
18:50 It's Andretti's Indoor Go-Karting, but it's more than that.
18:54 It's like a palace of fun.
18:57 A palace of fun.
18:59 A palace of fun.
19:00 I love it.
19:01 A garage of fun.
19:02 Yes, I like that.
19:04 I don't know where you put your cars. I know that sounds bad.
19:06 No, that's great.
19:07 But you know what I mean, like where you can have your cake and race it too.
19:11 Eat it too.
19:12 Yeah, I love it. I don't know.
19:14 Hey, if you're looking for other fun things to do, we got tickets to spring training.
19:19 CW7 and Spinato's Pizzeria and Family Kitchen are teaming up to send you to the ballpark.
19:24 All you have to do is simply head over to aztv.com/win and enter for your chance to score four tickets to a game.
19:31 Yeah, that's right.
19:32 One, two, three, four tickets, baby.
19:34 There's nothing better than a day at the ballpark with the family.
19:37 And thanks to Spinato's for making it all happen.
19:40 That sounds great.
19:41 Yeah, you only have a couple more days to do this.
19:43 Yeah, you got to enter now.
19:45 And, I mean, tickets are kind of expensive, so this is awesome to give to the whole family.
19:50 Four tickets, yeah, that's a great deal.
19:51 So it'll be good for us.
19:52 Alright, well, just a few weeks away is the big spring break.
19:56 Travel surge and thousands of families across the country will pack up their kids and head to warm, sunny destinations.
20:02 Oh yeah, national travel expert Davie Sutton is in the Bahamas and shares how to stay safe and enjoy your vacation this spring.
20:12 It's the sun, sand and sea that draws over 9 million visitors to the Bahamas every year.
20:17 Recently, the U.S. Department of State issued an advisory which recommends increased caution, but does not advise travelers against visiting here.
20:25 Crime in Nassau has remained isolated in local communities.
20:28 Officials and so many in tourism here continue to prioritize traveler safety.
20:33 One of the ways you can stay safe when traveling to places you are not familiar with is to stay in the main tourist areas and beaches, especially if you are alone.
20:43 Never post on social media what you are doing in real time.
20:46 Wait until you leave the location.

21:42 Alright, coming up we are getting some delicious veggie recipes to help kick off National Nutrition Month when the Knicks return.
21:53 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored on behalf of The Wonderful Company by Camelback Nutrition and Wellness.
22:05 March is National Nutrition Month and who better to make sure we are having a wonderful time being healthy than registered dietitian, Kristin Carley and The Wonderful Company.
22:17 Because they have some wonderful things that I love to eat but we are making a little combining of pistachios and pomegranate.
22:25 Yes, we are. Thank you so much for having me. I'm excited to partner with The Wonderful Company with this segment.
22:30 We've got a lot to talk about. March is National Nutrition Month and we're going to have pistachios and pomegranate juice help support our nutrition goals.
22:38 I love it. Okay, so let's start down here with the pistachios.
22:41 So we've got some lovely pistachios. Pistachios are great because they actually have a trio of nutrients.
22:47 They've got the healthy unsaturated fats, fiber and they also are a complete plant-based protein.
22:53 Which is a little unheard of when you think of plant-based protein to be complete.
22:58 And what that means is they contain all of the essential amino acids.
23:01 Oh, I like that. And you can do so much with them which is really neat.
23:05 And even what I love is that you have the shelled ones and then the unshelled.
23:08 Exactly. I will say the unshelled are dangerous in my house. I'm just going to let you know right now.
23:14 I love that they come in the no-shell variety because they just make it easy to throw into things.
23:19 We've made this lemony beet hummus that actually uses some of these lightly salted no-shell pistachios blended into the hummus.
23:29 So it contributes to that creamy texture and the beets contribute to that really beautiful color.
23:35 And when I saw this at first, I thought Lexi was saying, "Oh, she must have made it with pomegranate."
23:39 But no, that's actually beets.
23:40 Right? Also.
23:41 Could you put a little pomegranate in there?
23:43 You totally could if you wanted. Yeah, contributing to that color. I love that.
23:46 I like it. Okay. Alright, let's get down to salads because this is very important where you can get all the nutrients in just one salad.
23:52 Absolutely. So we've got a kale salad here. I'm going to put you to work and have you assemble our salad.
23:58 We've got some white beans.
24:00 We'll start with the white beans. I've been seeing these a lot. Are these better than black beans?
24:04 You know, beans have much of the same nutrition, but I love the white beans in this. They're extra creamy.
24:09 Go ahead and add some of those lightly salted no-shell pistachios.
24:13 Is that about enough to put in there?
24:14 Yep, that's about a quarter cup. I like the pistachios for that crunch. I'm always looking for a crunch factor in my salads.
24:20 I'm going to have you use some of those hemp seeds there as well.
24:23 How much do we?
24:24 Pour them all in.
24:25 Pour them all in?
24:26 A quarter cup, yep.
24:27 Alright.
24:28 Those are great. And then go ahead and use your spoon and scoop out the avocado there.
24:33 Okay.
24:34 And pour that right in.
24:35 This is so important, scooping out the avocado the right way.
24:37 Yeah, there you go. I like to dice it right in the actual avocado rind so that it comes out like that.
24:44 Can I put both of them in there?
24:45 You can put both of them in there.
24:47 So this salad is great because it combines both the pistachios and the pomegranate.
24:52 So I actually made a pomegranate juice dressing that is really, really good.
24:57 So we've got a little bit of honey in here, some olive oil, some pomegranate juice, some Dijon.
25:02 Do I mix this all up a little bit before?
25:03 Yeah, you can mix this up.
25:04 Or do you want to put the dressing in?
25:05 It doesn't matter.
25:06 Okay. Alright, and then you said the dressing, so.
25:09 Yeah, so the dressing has this pomegranate juice. I'm going to shake it up a little bit.
25:12 Okay.
25:13 The pomegranate juice is awesome because it's filled with antioxidants.
25:16 And these are the things that fight free radicals in the body.
25:20 So free radicals are kind of, they cause body damage over time.
25:24 So we want to constantly be eating antioxidants in order to prevent that and fight that.
25:29 In 700 milligrams of, in 8 ounces of a pomegranate juice, you actually have 700 milligrams of polyphenol antioxidants.
25:37 Look at my salad. I'm all ready to eat lunch. I'm all set to go.
25:40 Yes.
25:41 Okay, now we want a little dessert, but we want to make sure we're doing a little healthy for us.
25:46 Yes.
25:47 So what do you got there for us?
25:48 So we have some sugar cookies.
25:50 These have a pomegranate juice icing.
25:53 So what's really unique about this is you can, I've never made an icing before with pomegranate juice,
25:58 but it contributes to that beautiful color and you're healthifying your cookies, right?
26:03 Still getting some antioxidants in your cookies as well.
26:06 So, oh my gosh, this is so great.
26:07 And then of course you can drink this, just a little glass or how much should you have of this?
26:11 Yeah, so pomegranate juice is just rich in those antioxidants, like I said.
26:14 So in 8 ounces, you have 700 milligrams of the polyphenol antioxidants.
26:18 This is 48 ounces.
26:20 So you're getting a lot of nutrition.
26:22 You can use this however you'd like, maybe in a mocktail.
26:25 I was going to say, in a cocktail, can we, I might be taking that and giving it a little try there.
26:29 You know, we have this drink we got to make called the Phoenix.
26:32 So I don't know what we set a time for, but this is great.
26:34 So I love that we have all these little snack things that you need to have,
26:37 especially as we start to get for spring break and stuff, looking for things around the house for the kids to nibble on.
26:42 And so again, the pistachios either with the shells, and the shells are pretty good.
26:46 People like that because it keeps them busy, kind of.
26:48 Keeps them busy.
26:49 Pistachios are also one of the lowest fat and lowest calorie nuts.
26:53 So if you are watching your fat and calorie intake, pistachios are a great way to do it.
26:58 When it comes back to pomegranate juice, I like POM Wonderful because they're whole pressed.
27:03 They actually press the entire pomegranate.
27:05 So you get the antioxidants out of the rind, the pith, and those arils inside.
27:10 I like it. There it is.
27:11 All right. Any other quick, we got really quick, I know we're wrapping up.
27:14 Any other quick tips you have for us for this nutrition month?
27:16 Just enjoy your nutrition month.
27:18 Try to focus on adding instead of restricting.
27:21 I like to focus on addition.
27:23 There it is. And of course, you want more information about Kristen Carley and what we talk about,
27:27 you can head over to azdailymix.com.
27:30 So thank you.
27:31 Thank you.
27:32 All right. Coming up, we're heading back out to the Phoenix Raceway for some educational fun.
27:36 So come on back for more of the show that's all good here on CW7.
27:40 Here's on a daily mix.
27:47 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored on behalf of
27:50 The Wonderful Company by Camelback Nutrition and Wellness.
27:54 All right. The Phoenix Raceway is all about bringing the community together.
28:07 So we are heading back out to see all the great events happening out there.
28:11 Hey, Teresa, what's going on?
28:15 Hey, Lexi. Well, in a few, maybe about an hour, about 500 kids from the Valley will be here learning about STEM.
28:25 I'm with Matt Humphrey of NASCAR.
28:27 OK, Matt, I'm going to level with you.
28:29 Kids are always saying, and by kids, I mean my kids, are always saying that whatever they learn in math
28:34 has no practical applications in the real world.
28:37 But you say there are plenty of applications out here.
28:39 In the world of NASCAR, math is so important.
28:43 Science, technology, engineering, art, math is all vital on getting a NASCAR car on the racetrack.
28:50 You think about the science and the technology that you have sophisticated machines that are racing around the racetrack,
28:56 sometimes going 200 miles per hour at our biggest racetracks.
29:00 There's a lot of science that goes on behind the scenes in order for those cars to go fast.
29:05 And so you think about the mathematics involved, just in meteorology,
29:10 you think about the impact of temperature on both tire wear and how you tune your engine to be ready to go for the race weekend.
29:18 That all plays a factor.
29:20 And so kids learning science, technology, engineering, art, and math right now,
29:25 they're going to have a leg up if they want to go and compete at the highest levels of auto racing.
29:30 Matt, you mentioned meteorology, and I felt a few little raindrops today.
29:34 So what happens if you get rain? I know you have races Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
29:38 Well, first of all, that's not rain. It's just a heavy dew.
29:41 But right now we've got a great forecast for the race weekend.
29:44 But if we do, if we if we would have weather impact us, we have jet dryers.
29:49 We have our Toyota Tundra track drying team, which they'll go out and push compressed air.
29:54 They'll push the water off the track with compressed air and then follow it up with jet engines.
29:57 It will add heat to the racetrack.
29:59 And then we have the Elgin sweeper that comes by and then we'll sweep up the remaining excess water.
30:05 But we're not going to have that problem this weekend.
30:07 It's going to be sunny and 80 on Sunday. Fantastic.
30:10 I mean, that's right now there's a 100 percent chance of Phoenix, Arizona,
30:13 happening here at Phoenix Raceway for the Shriners Children's 500.
30:17 I love your enthusiasm. In fact, earlier we met and I confessed that I don't know that much about NASCAR.
30:24 And you told me something, Matt, that I'll never forget.
30:27 You basically consolidated this entire sport in one phrase, which was go fast, turn left, go fast,
30:33 turn left, finish in front of the person behind you. And you do that here at Ovals.
30:38 But there's so much more that goes on to that. Right. In order to go fast, you have to have a great team behind you.
30:43 And so we have the we have pit crews that will service the car that will change for good your tires
30:48 and put in two cans of Sunoco racing fuel in about nine seconds.
30:52 I mean, you're that's not an exaggeration. You're talking one one thousand two nine seconds to change four tires.
30:57 Absolutely. And so this field, the cars are so good.
31:01 The drivers are so good in the NASCAR Cup Series.
31:03 The competition is so close that just that tenth or a thousandth of a second that you can gain on pit road
31:10 could be the difference between finishing first and finishing in 20th.
31:14 And so that's why that's why you have highly trained athletes that are recruited from college
31:18 athletic programs from across the country who are jumping over the wall, changing those tires,
31:23 putting those fresh good years on the race cars and then putting two cans of Sunoco racing fuel in just so they can get out nine seconds and back on the track.
31:30 Well, talking about science, STEM training and all that goes into thinking about the weather,
31:36 thinking about torque and drag and downforce and all of that are some of the drivers coming from an academic background these days, or do they train on simulators?
31:45 They do train on simulators. So you think about our Daytona 500 champion, William Byron, started off in iRacing.
31:52 So racing on iRacing is a simulation platform that you can actually compete and you can feel like everybody
31:59 bump in the racetrack. They scan the racetracks to make it so realistic.
32:03 Last week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Rajah Karuth, a graduate of our Drive for Diversity driver development program,
32:09 won in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and became only the third African-American driver to win in NASCAR.
32:16 Incredible story. He got his start racing in iRacing.
32:20 So it is a low cost avenue of entry, a point of entry for our drivers to get started in the sport.
32:27 And you know, your parents always yell at you for playing video games.
32:31 Well, guess what? You can turn that into a career, my goodness.
32:34 And so you can do that and it's now a pathway to NASCAR.
32:38 So that's great. And we look forward to seeing more drivers take that path up the ranks
32:44 and then reach the highest levels in the NASCAR Cup Series.
32:47 Well, before I let you go, I know a bunch of kids are about to descend here at Phoenix Raceway.
32:53 What are you most looking forward to this weekend?
32:55 Well, I'm looking forward to everybody having fun, right?
32:58 There's just a good vibe here with this race weekend, with all the fun activities we have out in the Midway,
33:04 with Viva La Fiesta, the NASCAR experience, our KidZone.
33:08 But yet, seeing these kids here today, Latasha Kazi, our track president, I know you talked to her earlier.
33:13 One of her primary missions is to bring Phoenix Raceway out into the community
33:17 and then bring the community here to Phoenix Raceway.
33:19 She's done such an incredible job with that.
33:21 And seeing those kids experience Phoenix Raceway for the first time today,
33:25 they're going to want to come back to watch the race.
33:28 And then as they grow up and become adults, they come out and become race fans.
33:32 Or even better, become participants.
33:35 Thank you so much. Thank you so much, Matt, for having us out here at the track here today.
33:42 Stick around. The Daily Mix will be right back.
33:46 [MUSIC]
33:58 Get Connected in Prescott is brought to you by Sparklight, a stronger connection.
34:04 Hey, welcome back. Let's take a look at what's happening up in Prescott this weekend.

34:14 Come out and enjoy this classical musical theater event.
34:17 You can learn more at PrescottElksTheater.org.
34:19 I like it. All right, let's keep the music going because All Jazz Journey is happening
34:23 Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Elks Performing Arts Center in Crystal Hall.
34:27 It's a journey from Louis Armstrong to Miles Davis.
34:31 And you can check out tickets at PrescottTheaters.org.
34:34 And also we have the AZ Pastel Artists' 8th National Exhibition and Sale.
34:38 That's going on the 10th through the 21st at the Phippen Museum.
34:42 Learn more at PhippenArtMuseum.org.
34:44 I like it. Okay, from go-karting--oops, sorry.
34:47 You want more information about Prescott, you can head over to aztv.com/prescott.
34:51 Yep, and Get Connected in Prescott is brought to you by Sparklight,
34:54 the local Internet provider serving Prescott and select areas of northern Arizona.
34:57 Okay, now from go-karting to bowling, this next entertainment destination is everything.
35:01 And we'll have you going back again and again.
35:04 But I got a chance to go out there and experience an indoor racetrack. Take a look.
35:09 [music]
35:18 Ed, I have to say Andretti Indoor Karting and Games is not like any place in Arizona right now.
35:26 No, absolutely. We're so excited to bring a very unique experience
35:29 that's different from everything else out there here to the Valley.
35:32 Yeah, all right, we're on the track, but it's not just about go-karting here.
35:35 There is a lot to do here.
35:38 Yeah, there's a ton of stuff. We have more than 150 unique titles of video simulators,
35:44 redemption pieces where you can win some great prizes,
35:47 a lot of virtual reality experiences including a 7D experience,
35:51 lots of great food and beverage options for our guests coming in,
35:55 and then we also have event space to be able to take care of birthday parties and corporate events,
35:59 all kinds of great stuff that's here.
36:01 And what's really cool about this is that this is not the only one in the United States.
36:04 There's how many now?
36:05 This will be the seventh one that's open. We have locations that are in Florida, Georgia, and Texas,
36:10 and this is the first one that's kind of traveled west of Texas here in Arizona.
36:14 So if you've been to one, there's actually something that is not in the other ones,
36:18 and that is the duck bowling?
36:20 Yeah, so we have a duck pen bowling system by Brunswick that features a spark experience
36:24 that has a lot of interactive games that's very unique to us.
36:28 Oh my gosh. All right, you mentioned the 7D. Now what's the 7D?
36:31 So the 7D is where you have seating, where you're sitting in a motion simulator,
36:35 and it has wind, and you should be able to shoot, and 3D spectacular activities, lots of great stuff there.
36:42 Oh my gosh, and you mentioned about, of course, rooms for events you can come do,
36:46 one that even overlooks the track, the Mario Room.
36:49 Absolutely, and for those huge events, we can also talk about renting out the entire facility
36:54 for those unique type huge corporate events.
36:56 Man, okay, we're on the track, we're looking at the cart right here, this is pretty cool.
37:01 And these are electric carts, right?
37:03 Electric carts made by BizCart, this is our GT model.
37:06 They can get up to speeds up to 40 miles an hour, and on our tracks, they're multi-level, 3 stories,
37:12 and we have some great opportunities for people to race all the way from 4 years old,
37:16 all the way up to any age after that.
37:18 The experience you just said was multi-level tracks.
37:21 Everyone's so used to just driving around one track, but this, two, all over this building.
37:26 All over the place, it's very unique, and what's great about it is the track is designed to give the unique experience
37:33 of having like an IndyCart style road course.
37:36 Oh my gosh, this is really cool.
37:38 So again, excited about this being here in the Valley.
37:41 I do have to say one thing too, easy to get to.
37:44 Easy to get to, right off the 202 here at Cooper Road,
37:48 and we're really excited about the accessibility for this location.
37:51 Oh man, this is great. So you're saying I come out here, I race around a little bit,
37:55 I will be able to race NISCAR Formula 1 just like Mario Andretti did?
37:59 Absolutely. So you know with that Andretti name, we have to have something very spectacular on the racing side of things,
38:05 and this really delivers on that experience.
38:07 I love it. Well, this is really cool. It is Andretti Indoor Karting and Games.
38:12 You gotta check it out like I'm about to check out the track.
38:16 [MUSIC]
38:38 Champion, baby. Number one.
38:41 [MUSIC]
38:51 Thanks for hanging out with us this morning.
38:53 For more information on what we talked about during the show, head over to avdailymix.com.
38:58 Absolutely, and make sure to tune in tomorrow because we're celebrating International Women's Day
39:03 with some amazing women-owned businesses right here in the Valley.
39:06 It's great. Plus, Oscar weekend is upon us,
39:09 and we're getting a sneak peek into the Everyone Wins Nomination Gift Bag.
39:13 Ooh. Nominating gift bags. So, there you go.
39:16 Are we getting one? So, a nomination or a gift bag?
39:19 Either would be great.
39:21 We'll kind of say so. Have a great day. I'll get a gift bag instead of a nomination. That sounds good.
39:24 We'll see you back here tomorrow. Bye.
