00:00 From the corner of my eye, I see this little brown dog,
00:02 and I'm like, oh my gosh, I want to meet her.
00:04 Come here.
00:06 I'm Christine, and this is Mocha's story for GeoBeats.
00:09 I've been looking to adopt a dog,
00:11 and I went to the shelter.
00:12 Mocha.
00:13 Mocha was found as a stray.
00:14 She's missing both ears, and she also
00:16 has a big scar on the back.
00:20 There's a lot of theories out there
00:21 to what may have happened to her,
00:23 whether she was used as breeding, used as a bait dog,
00:26 but we're not exactly sure.
00:28 Knowing her background, I wanted to give her a home.
00:30 Hi, Mom.
00:32 I live with my parents, so I wanted
00:33 to make sure everyone was on board adopting her.
00:35 It's my mom who really was the one to look out for.
00:39 In terms of adopting, we come, and immediately, not even
00:42 two minutes later, my mom's like,
00:44 where do we sign the papers?
00:45 When she got to our house, she fit in right away.
00:49 She got super comfortable.
00:51 She acted like she was there for so long,
00:54 and she acted as if we've been a family from day one.
00:57 There were some things that scared her.
01:04 One time, I was out at my car, and I was just
01:06 carrying a bunch of things, and one fell,
01:08 and she ran straight into the house.
01:10 Another time, my mom dropped a plastic bag,
01:12 and Mocha went outside and stayed out there
01:14 for about an hour.
01:15 She wouldn't come back inside.
01:16 The one thing that we found interesting in the beginning
01:22 was that we never heard her bark or make any noises,
01:25 and we were like, do you have the ability to bark?
01:28 And then two weeks after, we ended up hearing her bark,
01:31 and we were all so excited.
01:32 We were jumping for joy.
01:34 She does look like a big girl because she's so muscular.
01:37 She's actually not so big.
01:39 You are a jumper.
01:42 She's pretty small, 36 pounds.
01:44 She's really dense.
01:45 I feel like it's all in her upper body,
01:47 where her muscles are.
01:49 So when she steps on you, all of her weight,
01:51 all 36 pounds is in that one paw.
01:54 We were always wondering how her past was,
01:57 of whether she was loved or not.
01:59 Because when we got her, she was house trained.
02:02 We didn't have to do much training or work with her,
02:07 which was amazing.
02:10 I like to think we found each other at the right time.
02:12 Last year, our family dog that I grew up with
02:15 ended up passing away, unfortunately.
02:17 And so that's why a few months later,
02:19 I was ready to adopt another dog.
02:21 Hi.
02:22 You are so sweet.
02:23 This is Bond.
02:24 You are so cute.
02:26 Our bond is really incredible.
02:28 I would love for her to love everyone else,
02:29 but she has a particular affection for me,
02:32 and I don't know why.
02:34 My family likes to call her my shadow.
02:35 If I'm not with her, I'm looking at photos of her,
02:38 and I miss her.

02:40 Boom chicka boom.
02:41 I said a boom chicka boom.
02:43 I want to tell her that she is safe,
02:44 that we're going to have the best rest of our lives
02:47 together, and it's only the beginning.
