00:07 A bridge is set to be widened as part of plans to unclog a highway pinch point on the outskirts of Preston.
00:14 The Skew Bridge on Preston Road in Grimser is just wide enough to allow two medium-sized cars to pass across it in either direction.
00:21 However, large vehicles like buses and lorries take up the entire span of the narrow route, forcing oncoming traffic to stop and wait.
00:29 Visibility on the approaches to the bridge, which is at the brow of the slope on the B6243 between Preston and Longbridge,
00:36 means that even drivers whose vehicles may be able to cross it side by side usually slow down in anticipation of what might be coming towards them.
00:44 Lancashire County Council is poised to launch a public consultation into the proposed widening of the bridge in the coming weeks.
00:51 The authorities cabinet would have to approve the plans and if it does so, work is likely to start this summer and expected to last for around 12 months.
01:00 A fire has broken out at the new civil service hub offices at Talbot Gateway in Blackpool.
01:06 Fire crews are at the scene and thick black smoke is seen rising from the 100 million office block which is due to open next year.
01:15 The cause of the fire and its severity is not clear at this stage. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Lancashire Police and Blackpool Council have been approached for further details.

02:51 Initial design proposals include installing a bus gate, a bus only street on the section of Manchester Road outside Ellisviz, replacing traffic lights at the junction on Manchester Road, then Grimshaw Street with a roundel and a complete revamp of the Manchester Road and Finsley Gate junction.
