00:00 The private sector is playing a big role in fighting climate change.

00:04 That's why they are trying to make plans to help the environment,

00:08 which is very tempting for investors.

00:12 EJ Gomez has the first news.

00:14 In a record-breaking period of temperature in the Philippines and other parts of Asia,

00:23 the team of international scientists said,

00:25 the hot weather is getting worse because of climate change.

00:29 The added heat they received from the use of oil, gas and coal

00:34 resulted in incidents of death due to high temperatures.

00:39 In fighting climate change, the private sector is playing an important role,

00:43 according to Global Compact Network Philippines,

00:46 which is part of the United Nations Global Compact.

00:49 This initiative is really to help out the bigger companies

00:53 to complete their greenhouse gas emissions by educating,

00:57 creating awareness and capacity building for our suppliers or our supply chain.

01:03 Sustainability is also a big issue for investors,

01:07 according to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

01:09 From 2019 to 2022,

01:12 many companies are giving sustainability reports to the SEC.

01:16 Investors are actually looking at the company if you have this report.

01:19 And if you have it, companies will be interested,

01:22 or investors, financial institutions will be interested to flow money to you.

01:27 As part of the development of the environmental, social and governance or ESG landscape in the country,

01:33 GCNP partnered with a Singapore-based software company

01:37 for the one-stop digital platform ESGpedia.

01:41 Companies that have already started to produce ESG data,

01:44 to be profitable, you have to be sustainable.

01:48 GCNP's target is to add more.

01:51 At present, it has more than 50 member companies in 100 by 2024.

01:56 This is in line with its small and medium enterprises in the country
