NECA Toony Terrors Thanksgiving John Carver Figure
Transcript
00:00 Well, if you're gonna get the turkey, make sure you get all its trimmings.
00:03 Here's your look at the brand new NECA toys Tooney Terror's Thanksgiving John Carver.
00:07 [music]
00:13 [paper crinkling]
00:21 Bring the fun of Saturday morning cartoons to your horror collection
00:25 with the adorable little treats of Tooney Terror's.
00:27 NECA's line of stylized horror icons.
00:29 Standing approximately six inches tall, this John Carver figure from the Thanksgiving horror film
00:34 includes axe and turkey mascot head, comes in a blister card packaging with bonus cutout backdrop.
00:40 [sniffing]
00:42 Something smells good in the oven. I wonder if mom's cooking.
00:45 Just before, of course, we get a closer look at the new Tooney Terror's Thanksgiving John Carver,
00:48 I'd like to thank, if I can, the folks over at NECA toys that did provide this sample we could have a look at.
00:52 Carver's gonna stand at about five and three quarters of an inch in height,
00:56 or the figure's gonna be about 14 and a half centimeters tall.
00:59 For more helpings of holiday horrors, bringing you other Tooney Terrors relating to holidays.
01:04 So Thanksgiving's John Carver is now being joined by My Bloody Valentine's the minor,
01:08 and here's also what the figure looks like with Halloween's Michael Myers.
01:11 On this side, though, let's bring in some other John Carver's that NECA has gifted us with.
01:15 First, here's what the figure looks like with the Ultimate John Carver, followed by that,
01:18 here's what the figure looks like with the Retro Cloth release.
01:20 Not always remembering to do this, but to show you guys the back of the packaging,
01:24 if you look at the back, you can cut out a cardboard backdrop,
01:27 providing, of course, you do have the space to do that.
01:29 Once this is cut out, you can simply just put this behind your John Carver.
01:32 I don't tend to do this, and probably one of the reasons why I always forget to mention it in the review,
01:36 just because, again, with a lot of my Tooney Terrors, I like to keep them in close quarters with one another.
01:40 I just don't have enough space to put a backdrop behind them.
01:44 Moving that out of the way, though, of the accessories that come included with John Carver,
01:47 first, the figure comes included with this axe.
01:49 The axe, nicely molded here, first in brown plastic for the handle,
01:52 followed by that, it's also added an additional blade.
01:55 Ooooooh! Just kidding.
01:57 The blade of the axe is nicely done here in dark gunmetal grey.
02:01 It does fit into his hands, but the funny thing about it, though, is without it putting it in his hands,
02:05 he actually looks like he's doing the Fonzie's thumbs up.
02:09 Yeah! Yeah!
02:12 Also kind of reminds me of that meme where somebody took John Rambo from Rambo 4,
02:16 and they digitally removed the machine gun,
02:19 so it looked like John Rambo was shooting with his thumbs up.
02:22 Anyways, taking, though, the axe... Stop that.
02:26 Getting the axe, though, in his hand.
02:28 You can either do it this way, you can also do it this way as well.
02:30 It doesn't really matter which way you do it.
02:32 You just line, though, the thumbs up, and you just basically slide the axe in place.
02:37 Now, really, without that, I mean, it's one of those cases, too, that if you were to lose the axe, dare I say,
02:42 you would unfortunately just have John Carver with his thumbs up all the time,
02:45 but it does complete the look rather nicely to have now the axe in his hands.
02:49 I'm sure they probably will go the route of doing a bloodied version of John Carver down the road.
02:53 Similar page that they did also with Michael Myers, where we got a bloodied release,
02:56 because they could easily just add a lot of blood all over, splattered here on the blade of the axe.
03:01 Of course, they could just put a good helping, a heaping helping of blood all over his body and his mask as well.
03:06 We'll come back to John Carver in a second.
03:08 The figure also comes in clue with the severed head of the turkey mascot from the parade.
03:13 I guess if it comes to stuffing, John Carver likes to start with the head first.
03:17 We're just going to slice that up.
03:19 The neat thing about it, though, is not only does it just look like a really interesting-looking head from the mascot,
03:23 but they did one better, as you probably have already seen for yourself.
03:26 Inside is the severed head, although you can't remove it.
03:29 It's all of one piece.
03:30 You can even see as well what's left behind, at least the spinal cord.
03:34 Some really gross, gruesome-looking effects there on the bottom of this as well, painted nicely there in red.
03:39 It's, again, a nice little accessory piece.
03:42 NECA, I believe, has also done a plush version of the turkey mascot.
03:45 I'd love to get my hands on that as well.
03:47 Just a nice little accessory.
03:48 You really aren't going to be doing anything with it.
03:50 It's not like you'd be able to swap it out with the existing head.
03:52 I mean, what they could have always done as well is if they put a hole on the bottom of this,
03:56 you could then have swapped out John Carver's head with the head of the turkey.
03:59 I don't really know why you'd want to do that, but you could get then a little bit more mileage out of this mold
04:04 if they just put, again, a little hole in the bottom of it, and you can mix and match with John Carver's head.
04:09 In the meantime, though, it's just going to basically be sitting off to the side,
04:11 picking back up, though, John Carver.
04:13 It's a nice-looking figure.
04:14 The one thing about it, though, is, as you can see, he was pre-posed.
04:17 One of my biggest worries when it comes to pre-posed figures is that they don't always stand accordingly.
04:21 The good thing, though, about him is that his ankles are actually on ball joints.
04:25 So if you get him out of the packaging and you think immediately, "Oh, hey, this guy's not going to be able to stand properly,"
04:29 just sort of put him down, put a little bit of weight on that, and wiggle the ankle back and forth,
04:33 and you'll get a nice, firm-footed plant.
04:36 The figure then stands perfectly fine.
04:37 No issues whatsoever.
04:39 He is obviously pre-posed.
04:41 One knee is bent forward like this.
04:42 The other leg is pretty much stretched out at the back there.
04:45 And, of course, again, he's carrying his axe.
04:47 You want to just take this axe out of his hand right now.
04:49 Yeah! Yeah!
04:51 Getting a closer look, though, at John Carver's head sculpt, we get the cleaner portrait this time around.
04:56 But it's not to say, again, like if they don't do a bloody release down the road,
04:59 they could give us the burnt mask that's left behind when he leaves the mask on top of the oven.
05:03 [sniffs]
05:04 Still smell that?
05:05 Smells nice.
05:06 The head is non-removable, nor is the face mask, so you can't take either one of those off.
05:10 But, again, a nice little portrait there of John Carver's face.
05:13 Very well painted, too.
05:14 All of the three, depending on which one you like to collect or, hey, why not collect all three,
05:18 all of the John Carvers we've gotten from NECAtoys have so far been quite good.
05:22 I don't know, really, if they're going to be doing any more of them, because, again, like we really already have.
05:26 Like, RetroCloth, we already now have an Ultimate Release, and now we have our two knee tears.
05:30 What other territory for turkeys can they also cover?
05:33 For the rest of this, boiler?
05:34 I mean, the irony in all this is the fact that Michael Myers, which, again, is a holiday whore,
05:39 Valentine's, my bloody Valentine's Day, a minor, are all wearing coveralls.
05:42 Coincidence?
05:43 I don't think so.
05:44 The coveralls this time around are actually a little bit more of a darker blue.
05:47 He does have, again, articulation, but the articulation can be very limited on this figure.
05:50 We'll talk more about that in a moment.
05:52 Sculpted nicely, they've got a couple of pockets there.
05:54 He has his boiler, I mean, covered quite up to the top, or coveralls, if you prefer, if you don't want to call them boilers.
06:00 And, of course, he's got himself some black gloves, black shoes, as well.
06:03 It's a pretty simple-looking suit, and yet very effective in the movie.
06:07 For the articulation on John Carver, again, it's going to be very limited because these two knee tears don't tend to have a whole lot.
06:12 The head is going to rotate, and when I say "rotate," I mean I'm using it very generously.
06:17 That's as far that the head can actually rotate back and forth.
06:20 It looks up only by just a little bit, and it looks down that far.
06:24 I know you may have blinked for a second and may have missed some of that, so we'll go back and do that again.
06:28 Up, down, slightly back and forth, and you can also rotate it back and forth this way.
06:32 As for the arms, the arms rotate all the way around, which again kind of adds for some hilarity because it also looks like he has body odor.
06:39 I don't know. But you can also rotate his arms all the way around.
06:42 The thing, unfortunately, about that, though, is while you could get his arms in theory up like this, so he's swinging down his axe,
06:47 you know, again, he is still going to stand, but he's going to be a little bit more off-keltered.
06:51 The figure has no articulation here in the waist, sadly, and the only other thing that he also has as well to his possession is ankle pivots.
06:58 They move up and down more so, and that's the benefit of you as a collector, so you'll be able to stand this guy a little bit better.
07:03 You can also rock the ankle back and forth, and really, you could rotate it, although you're only going to be able to rotate it so far.
07:09 Good-looking figure, though, and being a big fan of Thanksgiving, super excited for the idea that we are getting ourselves Thanksgiving, too.
07:15 Actually, just one thing before I start to get into the spiel of wrapping up this review.
07:20 The only other thing I would also say, too, is that the few little times that I've actually taken the axe and put it in Carver's hands,
07:25 it has looked like either it's left behind the paint from inside his gloves, or it's scraped away some of the paint on the handle.
07:32 So, again, the more times that you do this, the more often, perhaps, it's probably going to end up happening to you,
07:37 but, yeah, you just want to be careful that it's not going to scrape too much of the paint off.
07:40 So, just getting that into his hands, you can bring the arms up again if you wanted to, but, again, I think to do something similar to this,
07:46 you may want to get yourself a display stand, or, again, you want to make sure that the feet are nicely angled.
07:51 Yep, still works. Still works. Probably not going to have the figure displayed like that, because it's blocking off such a stellar-looking sculpt.
07:57 Really happy with how this one turned out. This guy's going to go nicely on display, if I can get him to stand here.
08:02 Nicely, nicely on display with the other holiday horrors that NEC has done so far for the Tooney Terrors line.
08:08 At the time that John Carver from the Tooney Terrors line is rotating on the rotisserie, the figure doesn't seem to be available online yet.
08:15 Most of the sites seem to have a release date of May 2024. I know what you're thinking. It is May 2024.
08:21 Little later into May, I think I mean. So, the figure may not be available everywhere,
08:26 although I think some people have already picked up John Carver's in local retail stores.
08:30 You can let me know if you've had similar luck yourself.
08:32 I've got the figure right now displayed with his axe way up in the sky, about to swing down on someone.
08:37 Can still be effectively pulled off without even using a display stand.
08:41 The benefit, though, even though the figure doesn't have one, you can also use being that there are universal holes in the bottoms of his boots.
08:47 You can use a display stand from another company. NEC has also done, of course, many releases of their display stands.
08:52 You can also use those as well. Still, it's kind of a surprise, though, that with the turkey head, no one thought to maybe put a hole on the bottom of that.
08:59 So, if you wanted to swap out with John Carver, although they probably would have had to do a little bit of tweaking just by how high his collar is anyways,
09:06 probably wouldn't have been able to fit the mascot turkey head. Just as a little side thing I was thinking about when I was looking at the turkey.
09:12 I'm thinking, you know, yeah, they probably could have put a hole on the bottom of that, but there's probably a little bit more involved than me just simply saying that.
09:19 What do you guys think of the figure? Let me know down below in the comments section.
09:21 How much did you enjoy Thanksgiving? I loved the movie and can't wait for a sequel.
09:26 Big thank you again to the folks over at NECA Toys that did come through and provide the sample, the brand new Thanksgiving Tooney Tares John Carver,
09:32 which now wraps up the trilogy, the trifecta, the triforce of John Carver's, if you will.
09:37 Having already looked at the ultimate release, then looked at the retro cloth, both of them, if you haven't already watched those reviews,
09:43 already available on this channel. Shameless plug, shameless plug, shameless plug.
09:46 But also, if you guys want to check out anything else that I've done for NECA Tooney Tares, popping up the very end of this video,
09:52 not only will be on one corner, all my NECA reviews, on the adjacent corner, all my Tooney Tare reviews.
09:58 So, again, if you have a little bit of time to kill, mom's still cooking away in the oven.
10:03 You can also, again, always check out those playlists and we'll definitely have a lot more NECA reviews coming your way.
10:08 So, as always, thanks for watching. See you guys next time.
