00:00There are signs of summer in this week's a week ahead video from the Met Office.
00:05It may even get quite a bit warmer, particularly as we go into next week.
00:09More on that in a moment. First, let's get through this week.
00:12We start off between high-pressure systems, but also between low-pressure systems.
00:18The bigger view shows the jet stream driving down to the south,
00:21generating this low pressure, bringing some wet weather to Iberia.
00:24And as that works northwards on this flank of the jet stream,
00:29well, it will bring some rain across France that might just graze into parts of Kent during Tuesday.
00:35So we could see a little bit of rain here.
00:36Showers across Scotland during Tuesday as well,
00:39and some showers breaking out over northern England, perhaps into the Midlands.
00:42One or two heavy ones, pretty well scattered.
00:44The odd one for northern Ireland, but many places, particularly Wales and southern England,
00:49dry and bright during Tuesday afternoon with some sunny spells.
00:52Breeze still coming down from the north, so still a chill across northern Scotland,
00:56especially temperatures really struggling across the northern isles and Aberdeenshire.
01:00But further south, with lighter winds, a bit of afternoon sunshine,
01:04temperatures could squeak into the low 20s.
01:07What about through the rest of the week?
01:09Well, high pressure is starting to topple in, pushing away the weather fronts.
01:14These ones are coming around the top.
01:16They will increase the cloud during Wednesday across northern Scotland.
01:19But for most, under this ridge of high pressure, Wednesday looks like being a fine day.
01:24Yes, it may start a little cloudy over the south.
01:26These could even be a bit of mist and fog around.
01:28Still a bit of a breeze coming down from the north around the coasts of East Anglia and Kent,
01:33but generally a good looking day.
01:35Temperatures in the high teens over northern England, southern Scotland and northern Ireland,
01:39and further south 21, 22 degrees, maybe even 23 in one or two spots.
01:44So already getting a little bit warmer.
01:46That high pressure is still influencing things as we head through Wednesday night and into Thursday.
01:51But the jet stream's really changing orientation now.
01:54The weather's dipped down to the south, is moving away.
01:56We're starting to see a more kind of classic jet stream coming in from the west.
02:00That is generating low pressure systems up to the north of the UK.
02:04And as this weather front dribbles southwards, the rain will be getting wrung out of it.
02:08But it will provide a bit more cloud during Thursday over parts of southern Scotland,
02:13northern England and northern Ireland.
02:14So maybe a bit grey here, a few showers in the far north,
02:18but generally a brighter day on the west coast of Scotland.
02:21And again, in the south, a fine day.
02:23And look at the temperatures ticking up, 24 degrees Celsius possible here.
02:27It will be a little cooler with a bit more cloud over northern England and northern Ireland.
02:31And we do have to just keep our eye on developments down to the south.
02:34Just the potential for some thundery showers to come up on this little weather front across France,
02:39maybe affecting the Channel Isles.
02:41Small chance they may even drift a little further north during Thursday night and into Friday.
02:46There will be more weather fronts by Friday coming into northern Scotland as well.
02:50So that will bring more of a change here and spreading its way across all of Scotland,
02:54northern Ireland, more cloud and some outbreaks of rain.
02:58A different feel to the day across Wales as well with more cloud coming in here,
03:01but still much of the south and east of England will be dry just with more clouds.
03:05And it won't be as warm either.
03:08So Friday we'll see some cloud and rain coming in, particularly over northern parts of the UK.
03:12That weather system, though, looks like pulling away again with the jet stream moving in low pressure systems.
03:19There could be more wet weather coming in across the north into the weekend.
03:22But the general theme is, again, for high pressure to topple in during the weekend.
03:28And depending on the timing, that could generate some even warmer air,
03:33particularly as we head into next week, a week away.
03:37So still plenty of developments to keep our eye on this week.
03:40We'll be keeping you updated.
03:41Make sure you stay up to date yourself.
