00:00Dull, dreary, dismal, disappointing.
00:04This week's weather was definitely brought to you by the letter D and it's all because
00:08of a really large area of high pressure.
00:11Cloud gets trapped under high pressure sometimes and that makes for the fairly gloomy skies
00:17that most of us have seen.
00:19Parts of northern Scotland have seen quite a bit of sunshine, I know, but this high pressure
00:23sitting to the east has allowed the winds to be wafting the air up from the south and
00:27we've just kept the cloudy conditions day after day.
00:31That high pressure is also keeping the weather fronts at bay, stopping things changing.
00:35But this one is creeping in for the weekend.
00:38It'll bring some thicker cloud and a bit of light rain and drizzle, maybe over Northern
00:42Ireland, parts of Wales and southwest England.
00:44Elsewhere, it's more of the same really for Saturday, a lot of cloud.
00:48It's areas to the north and northwest of hills that'll see some breaks in the cloud and a
00:52bit of sunshine.
00:53So again, northern Scotland may well be favoured for blue skies, otherwise those skies will
00:58again be fairly glum.
01:00And going to feel on the cool side, I suspect, temperatures struggling in the east in particular.
01:05We may not get into double digits, whereas further west again, we could just about climb
01:10into the teens.
01:11But overall, getting a little cooler this weekend compared to where we've been for most
01:14of the week.
01:15We will start to see more of a change by Sunday.
01:19The high pressure is pushing further away to the east and what we really need is a
01:23proper area of low pressure to mix things up.
01:25And that's what we're seeing.
01:26It's not really heading towards the UK.
01:28It's drifting up towards Iceland.
01:30But the isobars are squeezing together and this weather front's got more about it.
01:34It will push away the cloud and bring a bit more in the way of rain.
01:38So a damp start to Sunday across a good part of western Scotland, some rain and drizzle
01:43for a time across Northern Ireland.
01:44But it kind of fizzles out as it sinks its way southwards and it will introduce much
01:49brighter skies.
01:50Some sunshine for Northern Ireland and much of Scotland for the afternoon.
01:54There will be a few showers in the northwest and actually getting quite gusty across northern
01:58Scotland, particularly on Sunday night.
02:00Elsewhere, the winds stay fairly light, but just a gentle pickup in the breeze may allow
02:05a few more holes in the cloud over parts of East Wales, maybe parts of northern England
02:10before this zone of wetter weather pushes into northern England and north Wales late
02:14in the day.
02:15Again, much of the south and east of England, just dreary, a bit of drizzle, but most places
02:19dry and cloudy.
02:21Temperatures though will be a little higher, milder air is going to move in, so more likely
02:25to see temperatures in the teens on Sunday, particularly if we do see some sunny spells.
02:30Behind that weather front, it's a cold front, so the air will be a little cooler, but we
02:33will have some sunshine to compensate and most of us should see something a little sunnier
02:39by the time we get to Monday.
