00:00Can you say hard hats folks? Hard hats, munch pails, steel-toed boots.
00:08Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:10Look at this boomer right here.
00:12You've just got so much talent here.
00:15Somebody said we need to apologize for Jalen.
00:17Can I pull the John? What are we apologizing for? What did we say? What did we do?
00:21The playoff run.
00:30And I just really like the team chemistry that they have.
00:33You know, everybody plays a role.
00:35And, you know, they are really good at, you know, it's a team game and they understand that.
00:40And they're always deflecting credit to one another.
00:43And that's how it should be. The game of basketball is obviously a team game.
00:46And obviously they have tremendous players as well, which is why, you know, they were able to win the NBA championship.
00:52But the team chemistry is something that really stuck out to me.
00:55And I think that's something that, you know, I can come in and also just add to that as well.
00:59Kind of just being a connector and just being able to impact the game in any way I can to help them win.
01:06All right. Welcome to day two of the NBA draft.
01:10Bobby Manning here. Garden Report preview edition round two coming up around four o'clock.
01:15Just a little over an hour from now. The Celtics pick 54th tonight.
01:20But first, we're going to throw it back to the guy they pick 30th to end last night.
01:25Baylor Shireman talked for the first time just about an hour ago.
01:30Heard from him, heard about his workouts, his history with the Celtics and his impressions of the team and how he can fit in.
01:36Noah Delisle is here from Celtics blog. And I want to just ask you right away, what do you think of the pick?
01:42What do you think of Shireman? What you got to know and hear about him and learn a little bit more about him?
01:48Yeah, well, I'll start off with saying that I like the fact that they picked someone older.
01:53And I think that first and foremost, the priority is like filling the back end of the bench right now.
01:58And just, you know, there's a lot of uncertainty. You don't know who exactly is going to be back.
02:01You hope to have Sam Hauser here long term. You don't know if that's going to be possible.
02:05And so they picked someone who, from everything I've understood, he seems to be as NBA ready as it gets,
02:11rather than a Gordon Walsh type prospect that is more of a long term fit.
02:16And I like that because I think they have enough projects on the roster right now.
02:21And if he can come in and hit some threes and, you know, there's going to be a learning curve, obviously.
02:25But there's things that he's really strong at off the bat.
02:28And I think the adjustment period is going to be much less than,
02:31I guess, a lot of other people that they could have had in that spot.
02:34So I liked most everything about it.
02:36I think we talked a couple of days ago about whether they were going to get a big.
02:39And obviously, that's not the direction that they went here.
02:42And maybe that's where the 54th pick comes into play tonight.
02:46But I think from everything that I've heard about him, seen about him,
02:49he seems to be he seems to check a lot of the boxes for kind of the Missoula system.
02:53Yeah, I do think we put big at the top of the list.
02:56And that's not something we talked much about last night.
02:58Obviously, Kyle Filipowski was there from Duke.
03:01You maybe had a couple other big man options.
03:04Jonathan Mogbo.
03:05There were some guys there that you maybe could have gone with at that position.
03:09And of course, we have some news at the big man position today as well.
03:12Big news for the Celtics that we're going to get to pretty shortly here.
03:16So what do you think of them not going big here?
03:20I think you look to take the best player available.
03:22So that's why I like this pick,
03:24despite it maybe not being their biggest position of long term need.
03:27But that question at center certainly continues here.
03:31And Filipowski was there.
03:32Jason Tatum even chimed in a little bit on Twitter and was like,
03:35Hey, teams are going to regret not taking Filipowski.
03:39And it's like Boston just passed.
03:42I know he was one of the guys who called Charmin here.
03:44But that's obviously hearing from fans and just people who react to this pick.
03:51The only second guess there would be you had a big potentially there who could
03:55have slotted in and helped you pretty immediately to a position of perhaps
03:58greater need.
03:59Because I don't think Charmin is going to play a ton this year.
04:02Yeah, he's probably not going to.
04:03I mean, Brad said earlier in the week that it's going to be hard for any
04:06rookie to crack this rotation if healthy.
04:09But again, you know, he's insurance for playing, right?
04:12It's like, I think half of the roster last year didn't really play much,
04:15but was there in case, you know,
04:16you had the Seema Hylicks of the world in case you needed them and they
04:19never really needed them because they did stay pretty healthy last year.
04:22But I think the idea is, is that he's, he could,
04:25he is someone that could step up and contribute this season.
04:28Whereas I think Jordan Walsh, for example,
04:31wasn't I'm not particularly high in Filipowski.
04:34I think there's some challenges with his game and I don't know,
04:37I don't know that he would have been able to contribute this season to
04:40Boston, honestly, nor next one.
04:43But, you know, with the, with the big man spot, you know,
04:45there are so many factors right now that are, you know,
04:47we don't really know.
04:48We don't know what the deal is with Luke Cornette.
04:50We don't know if they're planning on bringing back Tillman.
04:52We don't know how they're going to use our next draft pick.
04:54If there's someone that they're looking to trade for. So I trust Brad.
04:58I think this has been a common sentiment among Celtics fans that I've heard
05:01from since the draft last night is that everybody, whether or not,
05:04you knew a lot about this guy, like you,
05:05you trust what Brad Stevens is doing and you trust the moves that he's
05:09making. And so I think that likely they're not putting themselves in a
05:12position where they're not going to have a big, a backup,
05:14big ready for next year.
05:15Obviously that's going to be a position of being,
05:17we'll talk more about that, but yeah, I was a little surprised.
05:19They didn't, they didn't particularly kind of hone in on that for this
05:22position, you know, with our 30th pick.
05:24And I was honestly surprised they kept the pick.
05:26I didn't think they were going to, and as the minutes were passing by,
05:28I thought maybe he's actually going to do it.
05:30And so it was still,
05:31it was a little surreal even to see the Celtics drafted number 30.
05:34Yeah. And I think that says a lot.
05:36You always hear teams say we got our guy.
05:38They said that last year with Walsh, right.
05:40And they traded back three times. So it was like,
05:42did you really get your guy? This feels like they got their guy.
05:46Stay in here, picking up, let's say what?
05:49Seven, eight,
05:50$9 million between the hit salary wise and tax that you're going to have to
05:54pay to have this guy on the roster.
05:56Who's probably not going to pay a ton.
05:57You obviously would add a fill the spot with a minimum anyway, but again,
06:00you could trade back into the second round,
06:02try to get a guy in a two way,
06:04try to maybe cut a half million or whatever off the money there
06:08potentially, but they stayed. Like you said, no,
06:11it was a bit of a surprise that they stayed.
06:13They'd never taken a first round pick under Brad and they got a guy who they
06:17had a connection to previously, which I didn't realize.
06:21This was a interesting story he told today on the call.
06:24For Boston. And then I also worked out for him this year,
06:29going through the process. And I really enjoyed both times.
06:32I worked out there, obviously, you know,
06:34meeting the organization and the staff.
06:36And I really enjoyed the workouts as well. And the city
06:40just thoroughly enjoyed my time there. And obviously, you know,
06:44I felt like I put a good step forward in those workouts and I'm just really
06:48excited to obviously, you know,
06:50have this opportunity in Boston and excited to get to work. You know,
06:54they really liked my game just my ability to, you know,
06:58kind of impact the game in different ways, whether that be shooting,
07:01passing, dribbling, or just my IQ. And, you know,
07:05they felt like I could get a little stronger, a little quicker,
07:08a little more explosive a couple of years ago. And, you know,
07:10that's kind of what I really tried to, you know, improve on, you know,
07:13these last two years at Creighton. And I feel like I did that,
07:17which kind of put me in the position to be where I am right now. Yeah.
07:20Yeah. Well, you know, two years ago, obviously I'm two years younger.
07:23And at the time coming out of South Dakota state,
07:26it's kind of a different level than what I was at,
07:29at these past two years at Creighton. And I think, you know,
07:32it kind of just opened my eyes that my first time working out kind of just
07:37what I needed to improve on and kind of what, you know,
07:40the NBA game was kind of all about. And then obviously these next,
07:43these last two years at Creighton kind of just really working on that and the
07:46ability to come in this year and kind of just prove that I have grown as a
07:49player and as a person.
07:51And I think that really helped me obviously throughout this process and then,
07:54and then they helped getting selected.
07:57So you have it, here's a guy Celtics had on their radar, 2022,
08:00which was the year they picked JD Davison, right?
08:03That probably would have been Brad's first draft.
08:05So the guy who stayed in school, guy who transferred levels,
08:09a guy who played five years in college and hole there.
08:11And that probably explains a lot about why he was there.
08:14Teams hate picking older guys. And this guy's almost 24.
08:17I think about it. Tatum's what? 26.
08:20And this guy's just two years younger,
08:22older than some guys on this roster already, probably,
08:26especially Walsh there. So that can go both ways, right?
08:31We saw Desmond Bain,
08:32another 30th overall pick come in a little bit older who stayed in college a
08:35little longer and still had a hugely impactful career right away.
08:39And for other guys, they just kind of stagnant.
08:41I guess what's impressive here with him is he did go back.
08:44He did get stronger. The speed numbers at the combine weren't horrible.
08:48I think they rank pretty well. In fact,
08:50I think he's three quarter court sprint was the same as brownies,
08:54believe it or not from the combine and, you know,
08:58good measurements in terms of his height and wingspan to here on the wing.
09:01So yes, just like Hauser, a guy whose role he might fit into.
09:05Eventually there's some defensive concerns here,
09:09but when you look at everything he can do offensively and the improvement year
09:12in and year out and going from that level at South Dakota state to create him,
09:17he looks like a guy that can work on his weaknesses and get used to the NBA
09:24level and eventually fit into this team.
09:26And what gives you the most hope is that the Celtics have done this with a
09:29couple of guys now.
09:31Yeah.
09:32And I think that's the main thing when evaluating this decision in general is
09:35that you just kind of trust their judgment and you trust that his deficiencies
09:39like potentially the defense and particularly if you're switching on to small
09:42guards or bigs, like, you know,
09:44it's obvious that there's going to be some challenges adjusting to the NBA.
09:47You know, you saw Sam Houser do it.
09:49You saw Peter Kreutzer do it.
09:50And I don't think that any of the Celtics would draft any player that they
09:55didn't feel like defensively could make the leap because I do think that they
09:59really don't play guys that are defensive liabilities at all.
10:02And so I, you know, we've seen that be time and again,
10:05a priority both in playing time and also who they're assigning,
10:07who they're bringing on. And so, you know,
10:10I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on his defensive film,
10:12but I do trust that the kind of where he needs to improve,
10:15that they have the belief and confidence that he'll be able to do that.
10:19Yep. And I'd imagine he'll spend some time in Maine,
10:23although there is some readiness to play right away. If there's rest,
10:26if there's injuries, I do think they have faith in him.
10:29Maybe that should be my high Luke role being like that reserve wing there in
10:34the mix. That's with the team sometimes just in case.
10:37So I don't think he's going to be in Maine all year, like Walsh.
10:40I know some people freaked out when I said that,
10:42but I will spend some time in Maine just to get the reps.
10:45If he's not playing much, go up there, work on the defense,
10:48get acclimated to the speed of the game, especially early on.
10:51And we'll see how he does in camp too. I think that'll tell a lot.
10:54And obviously these guys are excited to go at him with,
10:57with him in camp or for reaching out to him, Joe.
11:00So I've already heard from a handful of guys here, not in Boston yet.
11:05So we'll see what number he's wearing and all that and get him officially
11:09acclimated when he gets here. But he did talk for the first time today.
11:12So you can go check that out over on the CLNS media channel.
11:1630th overall pick Baylor Shireman from Creighton and the Celtics are going to
11:20pick 54th today. Our coverage of course is brought to you by prize picks,
11:24go to prizepicks.com and use that code CLNS for a hundred percent deposit match
11:30up to a hundred dollars. And right now they are giving away a free square,
11:35which they do from time to time here. Obviously the game is you go pick two
11:41players, pick more or less on their projections.
11:44And you got your daily fantasy team here.
11:46They're giving away a gimme as they often do sometimes.
11:49And this one is for UFC this Saturday, Alex Pereira fighting.
11:55And all he has to do is get one significant strike.
11:58Normally it's 50 and a half. It would be for Pereira in this spot,
12:01but all he has to do is get one for you to get that hit, get the other one,
12:05right? Maybe it's women's basketball, maybe it's baseball,
12:08maybe it's another UFC pick and you're halfway to winning.
12:13So go over there and get that.
12:15That is valid through Saturday when the fight's going to take place.
12:19I believe Saturday at 3, 10 PM is when that's going to go.
12:22So you have until about then to get this free square over on prize picks.
12:26And again,
12:27use CLNS to get that deposit match and let them know we sent you our official
12:32daily fantasy sports partner right there over at prize picks.
12:36And the biggest news of the day before we get to 54 and some of the stuff that
12:40might happen today, Chris Dasporzingas underwent surgery.
12:45And Brad mentioned a couple of days ago on Ryan Rosillo's podcast that he could
12:52miss at least the start of the season.
12:54And even underplayed that a little bit,
12:57I think in terms of the time he's going to miss here five to six months.
13:00So we're talking Thanksgiving at the earliest and Christmas more likely here.
13:06December Christmas time for Porzingis to recover from the surgery.
13:10So not great. You knew the injury wasn't great when it happened.
13:14It didn't sound good.
13:15And it certainly almost knocked him out of the finals and he put himself all on
13:19the line to play in that last game because he needed this big of a surgery,
13:24this much recovery time to bounce back from that.
13:28So certainly some questions to start the year.
13:31You hope he's able to recover from this.
13:33Effectively,
13:34even after he comes back from this and play at the level he's capable of.
13:38But they had no choice here as it sounded from the Celtics release.
13:42This is a injury that required surgery.
13:44That's going to require this pretty hefty recovery time here.
13:48And you just hope he comes out the other side,
13:51able to play consistently and effectively.
13:54But for October, November, part of December,
13:57they're just going to have to figure this out.
14:00And they didn't really have to do that last year. No. Right.
14:03He missed three, four games, sometimes back to backs,
14:06but he didn't miss any period of time like this.
14:09I mean, except for the playoffs. Right.
14:11He missed the whole pretty much.
14:13And so to me,
14:15a,
14:16it was pretty striking that he played in game five and that he was looking
14:19to play in the finals and everything.
14:21I think looking at this recovery timeline and the more we hear about this
14:24injury, the more it's kind of remarkable that he was even able to contribute
14:27towards the end there.
14:28And I think that if we had known after game two,
14:31when he was talking about, you know, I'll die on the court, I'll be back.
14:34If we had known that this is an injury, that's a six month recovery period.
14:37I think everybody would have been pretty surprised.
14:39It wasn't at all what it's felt like at that time.
14:41Joe was, well, it's a zero concern, you know?
14:43So that's just one of my initial reactions.
14:45Just like how wild this is.
14:46We've come a long way from zero concern.
14:48And so that's the first, first reaction, I guess,
14:53there. And then on the rotational piece, a,
14:55I think it's fine because you have such a heads up and where the injuries
14:58really bite you is when it's the beginning of the season and you have a plan
15:01and now all of a sudden your top guys are out the whole year, right?
15:04Like they know now going into the off season that they're not going to
15:07happen for the first few months.
15:08If not longer.
15:09But again, I feel like a broken record.
15:11Cause I've said this a million times,
15:13but I think you have to build your roster and you have to build your
15:17roster as though he's not on it, honestly, like,
15:19that's just the nature of how, how many injuries he's had to deal with.
15:22And so this to me is just a reinforcement of that understanding that,
15:25you know, for a fact, he won't be there.
15:27First few months of the season.
15:28Will he be there in the playoffs? You certainly hope so.
15:30But I think that when you were thinking about the off season moves,
15:33the second round draft pick Reese, you know,
15:35I think it's important for you to build your roster.
15:37You have to build your roster.
15:38You have to build your roster.
15:39You have to build your roster.
15:40You have to build your roster.
15:41You have to build your roster.
15:42You have to build your roster.
15:43You have to build your roster.
15:44You have to build your roster.
15:45You have to build your roster.
15:46You have to build your roster.
15:47You have to build your roster.
15:48You have to build your roster.
15:49You have to build your roster.
15:50You have to build your roster.
15:51You have to build your roster.
15:52You have to build your roster.
15:53You have to build your roster.
15:54You have to build your roster.
15:55You have to build your roster.
15:56You have to build your roster.
15:57You have to build your roster.
15:58You have to build your roster.
15:59You have to build your roster.
16:00You have to build your roster.
16:01You have to build your roster.
16:02You have to build your roster.
16:03You have to build your roster.
16:04You have to build your roster.
16:05You have to build your roster.
16:06You have to build your roster.
16:07You have to build your roster.
16:08You have to build your roster.
16:09You have to build your roster.
16:10You have to build your roster.
16:11You have to build your roster.
16:12You have to build your roster.
16:13You have to build your roster.
16:14You have to build your roster.
16:15You have to build your roster.
16:16You have to build your roster.
16:17You have to build your roster.
16:18You have to build your roster.
16:19You have to build your roster.
16:20You have to build your roster.
16:21You have to build your roster.
16:22You have to build your roster.
16:23You have to build your roster.
16:24You have to build your roster.
16:25You have to build your roster.
16:26You have to build your roster.
16:27You have to build your roster.
16:28You have to build your roster.
16:29You have to build your roster.
16:30You have to build your roster.
16:31about this injury and how he's going to react to it.
16:34I was talking to Dr. Flynn a little bit early and I guess there's like a socket that they
16:38have to basically dig deeper into to get more stability in that area and then rebuild the
16:47muscle that he tore around it.
16:48So it does seem like a pretty invasive kind of procedure here in terms of what they need
16:54to do and how he recovers from it, how he looks when he gets back and how he reacts
16:58to it is going to be interesting.
16:59Like, does he need some ramp up time?
17:01Is there going to be some limitations and time off he needs to take?
17:04I know this release said he'll be back in game action five, six months in, but you never
17:08really know.
17:09Could go a little bit longer.
17:11Might need more time.
17:12That might be the time he's getting on the court and ramping up because obviously with
17:15a leg injury, he's not going to be able to do a ton of conditioning here as he recovers.
17:20So it's tough.
17:21It's brutal for him, I'm sure.
17:23He really fought to get back from it and now this is almost another setback here.
17:28So fortunately you have a handful of these months, three of them here as off-season time
17:35for him to just fully focus on recovering.
17:38And the Celtics in the meantime, as you mentioned though, are going to have to figure out life
17:41without him.
17:42Obviously it starts with Horford, who's here for one more year, nine million on the contract.
17:48Year by year with him, I'd imagine at this point in terms of how long he's going to play,
17:52but you definitely know he's here for this year, but you have to start to think about
17:56how you take the load off him and how you replace him and potentially poor Zingas eventually here.
18:04So they don't have a lot of resources to do it, to go back to the draft conversation.
18:08Might've been smart to take a guy who could've started working toward being in that spot.
18:12I know it's tough to do from 30, but you might've had to start to look at that a little bit
18:16here, especially because your three backup options or three out of the four in the front
18:21court are free agents here.
18:23And that's where I'm really stuck.
18:24What does Luke Cornett want this summer?
18:26He's obviously the most reliable, at least a year ago out of the guys who backed poor
18:31Zingas and Horford up.
18:32Does he want money?
18:33He's never really gotten a big payday.
18:35Is there a backup full mid-level eight, nine, $10 million a year contract out there for him?
18:40Tillman, same deal.
18:42He wasn't quite the backup last year, but gave some key playoff contributions when you
18:48called on him.
18:49The defense is excellent.
18:50The offense is a real question there.
18:52How much is he asking for?
18:54And then, of course, Cade is back, and he's the most affordable of them all by far, but
18:58he's the biggest question mark out of all of them here.
19:00And then O'Shea Brissette's lurking, too, who they can't really pay a ton more than
19:05they were going to give him on that player option.
19:08Does he want to go out and get more money, more playing time?
19:11I know there's some buzz out there that he wants to be back with this team, but is the
19:16opportunity right?
19:17Is the money right?
19:18I mean, he opted out for a reason, so I do think there's a possibility that he could
19:22be moving on here.
19:23So the great thing you had last year, though, is options, right?
19:29O'Shea was reliable.
19:30He brought a certain skill set.
19:32X was reliable, brought a certain skill set.
19:35Luke could play great in certain matchups and couldn't play at all in other matchups.
19:39And so if you're losing one or two of those guys, it's a little bit harder to kind of
19:44have a guy who's more consistently backing up Orford with Porzingis out.
19:48So this is going to be tough for them to manage this summer.
19:52Yeah, definitely.
19:53And I think it's the biggest question mark when you're looking at next year's roster.
19:57Obviously, everybody's concerned about the Derek White extension.
20:00That's going to be looming, and that's going to be kind of front of mind for folks.
20:03But I think the center position and what the depth looks like there is likely going to
20:08be the biggest point of emphasis for Brad also, because you don't have returners there,
20:13right?
20:14I really don't know who they're going to bring back here.
20:16And to your point, I really don't know how Luke Cornett and Xavier Tillman are perceived
20:20in the market.
20:22That's where I'm stuck.
20:23Yeah.
20:24Like, is Luke Cornett going to get a three-year, $27 million offer?
20:29I don't think so, but maybe he does.
20:33He has such a unique role on this team that it's hard to think about how this would be
20:38manifested in another organization, how they're perceiving the fact that, obviously, he was
20:42on Boston, he was contributing, they relied on him, they trusted him for minutes, but
20:47he never had to step beyond his role, right?
20:49So it's not quite clear what he's capable of.
20:52He knows that he can kind of shoot, but he didn't shoot at all in Boston.
20:54So he's just an interesting case.
20:56So I just don't know what he's going to see out there.
20:58And I think he would like to be back.
21:00It seems like he's a guy that they would like to keep with the organization for the continuity,
21:04for everything else.
21:05Who would you prioritize?
21:09Over Tillman or Luke?
21:10Tillman, Luke, O'Shea, that whole group there.
21:14Well, it's a tough one.
21:18I guess you keep...
21:21I'm kind of torn between Luke and Tillman.
21:25I do think Keita is going to be a big part of them moving forward.
21:28Just the fact that they signed him to a multi-year deal, I really liked what I saw from this
21:31year.
21:32Obviously, there was room for him to grow and kind of get more comfortable, and defensively,
21:35he made some mistakes.
21:36But I think I really liked what we saw from him, and I loved seeing him in Maine.
21:40He just seemed like a NBA-ready player every time I watched him.
21:44And then also, the fact is, is that Brad brought his name up on his own accord the
21:48other day.
21:49He brought up him, Jordan Walsh, Jaden Springer as guys who are going to be thinking about
21:53how to ramp up their minutes and things.
21:54So he's somebody else that I think is in the mix, but probably you prioritize bringing
21:59back Luke, just because I think when, besides for the finals, he was really who they turned
22:03to whenever they needed somebody.
22:05Yeah, and that's where I lean to, because it wasn't the smoothest transition for Tillman.
22:11He didn't play a ton.
22:12It didn't seem like he totally had Joe's trust, which you understand, because he was
22:16coming in midseason, he was hurt, didn't have much time to acclimate to what they were doing.
22:21The shot never really got there, despite the famous finals one that we'll always remember.
22:26So there's questions there.
22:27I think there's more questions with him, especially health-wise, than there is Luke, although
22:32Luke can't fit into every matchup.
22:35So you're going to have to have some sort of four or five hybrid kind of guy who can
22:40allow you to play a little smaller at that point.
22:43If it's Luke and O'Shea, I guess that works, because you do have Keita here.
22:48And that's the big, big question, right?
22:50Is Keita a real factor here going forward?
22:53Because he showed those spurts last year, he didn't get to play a ton, he's on a one-year
22:58team option.
22:59If they rework that a little bit and give him like two, three years, that would say
23:03a lot about how much they believe in him and how big of a part he's going to be going forward
23:07of this whole thing.
23:09And the skill set with him, offensive rebounding, drop coverage, it's a little similar to Luke
23:13with more physicality, obviously, there.
23:17And can he develop skills beyond what he has right now?
23:20I think he's a great third option, fourth option when everyone's healthy for now.
23:25But does he continue to grow into something there?
23:26I think you certainly keep him next year.
23:29But that's another question as you start to throw everything together and consider everything
23:34here.
23:35If someone would take the minimum, that would help a ton.
23:39But I look at Luke, I just can't assume Luke's going to take a minimum again.
23:42X, he has that elite, elite skill set when it comes to switching and defense.
23:47Someone's going to value that, at least more than the minimum.
23:50And then you look at O'Shea, who hasn't really had a payday in the pros either.
23:53Maybe he takes it just to be part of this whole thing again, and there's nothing else
23:57out there.
23:58And maybe you try again in a year, maybe you have a bigger role next year if Tillman's
24:02not coming back.
24:04So it's tough to predict, right?
24:07And a lot of it's just going to come down to what those guys get on the open market
24:10there.
24:11But I think you need to bring one of these guys back.
24:13And then you need to ask yourself, how much can Kada play?
24:16And I don't know, how high are you on Kada going into next year?
24:20I'm pretty high on him.
24:21I know that he's raw, but I also think that he has all the tools needed to succeed as
24:27an NBA center.
24:28And so it was just a question of developing him.
24:31And I do think that they've already kind of signaled that they want to develop him.
24:36I also think that he can shoot.
24:37Obviously he hasn't shot quite a whole lot, but just watching him shoot every single day
24:41before games, he has a fundamentally very sound shot, and he shoots at a high clip just
24:47shooting around.
24:48Obviously there's an enormous jump to go from shooting around to being a three-point shooter
24:53in games.
24:54But I don't think that he's a guy that is not going to have that be part of his offensive
24:58skill set down the road.
25:00And then as far as you're thinking about the minimum, O'Shea's the one that I think is
25:03the most replaceable of those three.
25:06I really like him.
25:07I love what he brought to the team.
25:08I think he has a great energy about him.
25:09It's clear he's a good locker room guy.
25:11I always thought he did well in the minutes that he got.
25:14But I think he plays a role where I see, I see a world where Jordan Walsh plays that
25:17role.
25:18You know, like I think that there's a clear pathway forward to replacing someone like
25:21him more so than Luke Cornett, which I think ended up developing a skill set that's a little
25:25bit more difficult to find.
25:26So I don't know.
25:28There's so much uncertainty.
25:29We'll probably get some clarity in the next couple of weeks here, at least on some of
25:32these guys.
25:34Likely the team has some insight on what people's individual demands are and where their heads
25:38are at.
25:39It's possible that one of these guys already is kind of out the door and we don't even
25:41really realize.
25:42Right.
25:43So we'll get more clarity in the future.
25:46But that's why I thought that maybe we would see a big prioritize in the first round, just
25:50because there are so many question marks with this group, plus the Porzingis injury and
25:53just Porzingis in general.
25:55And then again, Al's going to be 39 by next year's playoffs.
25:58Right.
25:59And so you have to kind of factor that in as well.
26:01Yeah.
26:02And this is interesting, too.
26:03B-Rod reporting that the Celtics are going to aim to extend White and Hauser this summer.
26:08I think that's all good and worthwhile pursuing.
26:13Do they actually get it done?
26:15That's another question here, because again, when does the money become an issue with this
26:19team or not an issue, but just a limitation?
26:22The tax is going to grow enormous in 2026.
26:24I guess you can extend, guys, and figure out what you're doing with them later.
26:28And that might be what they do with these guys here.
26:30And as we discussed last night, White capped at 127.
26:34If you're White and you're looking at OG, get 212.
26:37What do you think in there?
26:39And that is something Jimmy brought up last night that I think is valid.
26:43There's some serious money out there in free agency that I think you at least have to look
26:47at if you're him.
26:48But how important is it just locking up some money now?
26:52And how important is it to stay with this team?
26:55I think those are questions you got to ask with him.
26:57And Hauser is surprising here, because you think there's a line on this roster, right?
27:02You got your big five, big six, beyond that, can you pay other guys even a little bit of
27:09money?
27:10I know Keith Smith was tossed around 8, 9, 10 million as an offer to Hauser potentially
27:14here in extension talks.
27:16That even feels a little rich to me there.
27:18And I know he's certainly a guy who can go out there next summer and get a lot of money
27:22for his break throughout the option that you can make him a restricted free agency this
27:25summer.
27:26I don't even risk that, because I think you just want him at that 2 million this year
27:29and figure it out from there.
27:31So this is another thing here as we start to think about Luke and X and all these guys.
27:35Are they just going to try to give everybody a little something here?
27:39Because White at 127 you can live with.
27:41I guess Hauser at like 8, 9 you can live with.
27:46And let's say the little bump for Luke and Tillman is like 3, 4, 5 million.
27:52If you're going to eat tax, if you're gross back, I guess you can just keep everybody
27:55here.
27:56But I'll believe it when I see it.
27:57You're going to have to pick and choose a little bit here, I think.
27:59Yeah.
28:00I was surprised by the reports that they're prioritizing extending Stan Hauser.
28:04I didn't think that that was really possible, honestly.
28:06I kind of just assumed that this was one of those guys that you're going to have to part
28:11ways with at some point.
28:14And I do think that there's a model that he follows, or there's other people that are
28:18going to have to...
28:19That you can find for that role.
28:22Like potentially who they drafted right now.
28:25But Sam Hauser is proven now, and that's really hard to replace.
28:28He has shown that he can defend in the NBA Finals.
28:31He's shown that you can't really take advantage of him the way that you might be able to other
28:35limited shooters.
28:37So there's not really question marks around him anymore.
28:39And so there are some, but for the most part, he's a proven NBA player that you can trust
28:44to be in the playoffs and in big moments.
28:46And so the value of that's really high.
28:48But the problem is, I think that's everyone in the league knows that now.
28:52I still think that at the same time, that he's not going to be around.
28:55He's not going to be...
28:56I don't think they're going to be able to extend him long term.
28:58But I would love to see him because I think that he...
29:01Also the whole story of how they kind of...
29:03He's been here from the beginning.
29:04He was the main guy.
29:05I love the idea of keeping as many of those guys around as you can.
29:09But I would be surprised if they're actually able to get it done the way that right now
29:12it's, I guess, being discussed.
29:14Yeah.
29:15And it's a balance.
29:16You obviously fall in love with these guys who helped you get a championship here.
29:19But is it worth doubling, tripling their salary potentially here?
29:24Because you expect more from them at that point, at least based on the returns.
29:28And how many of these guys are capable and more?
29:31I mean, Hauser's been great.
29:32He's grown.
29:33An 8, 9, 10, again, million isn't bad for him.
29:36That would probably actually be bargain money as the cap continues to rise here.
29:40But is he going to accept that?
29:41These guys obsessed with staying with Boston to the point where they're going to pass a
29:45free agency.
29:46That's a question too here.
29:48So we'll see how all that plays out.
29:49It's going to play out soon.
29:50The Hauser team option deadline is the 29th, which is just two days from now.
29:56The Cata option deadline is the 29th as well, so Saturday.
30:01And I think that's it for the team options.
30:03Just Hauser and Cata, I want to say.
30:05So we'll see how those shake out.
30:07White, I'm sure they'll start those talks sooner rather than later.
30:11And we'll see what happens with those guys.
30:12As for tonight, 54th pick, well, real quick, I want to shout out game time.
30:18It's summer.
30:19Game time is where you're going to get all your concert, sports, women's basketball.
30:26You want to go down to Connecticut for a Sun game?
30:28They got you covered.
30:29Want to go to Fenway for a Red Sox game?
30:31They got you covered.
30:32And they're going to show you where you're sitting.
30:33And they're going to give you $20 off your first purchase with that code CLNS.
30:36So go to game time, open the app, and use that code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase.
30:43Terms apply.
30:44A lot going on this summer.
30:45So get that game time app and see what's going on.
30:47And I actually am going to try to go see Hiatus Coyote tomorrow.
30:50So I don't know if they're going to be on game time, but I'm going to check that out
30:52anyway and see if they get some deals there over at Roadrunner.
30:56So a lot going on.
30:58And we might get a light breather, Noah, after tonight with the draft ending, but that's
31:02free agency on Sunday.
31:04So we're staying busy as well tonight.
31:0754th pick.
31:09Right in front of Lakers.
31:10Do you look at Brawny?
31:12Do you try to pull a fast one in front of LA?
31:15I'm not as focused on that.
31:17I think this is where you try to get that developmental big and look at what he's going
31:21to try to do.
31:22I mean, look at what the team's going to try to do and, you know, get a guy just on a two-way
31:27deal probably is what you're looking at in this range.
31:31And again, you're not expecting a ton at 54th overall in the draft.
31:36There's almost no chance that whoever they pick here is ever going to play for the team.
31:41But there's some flyers here.
31:43We'll see who follows them.
31:45It's not going to be a Filipowski type, I'd imagine.
31:47It's not going to be any of the guys we kicked around, even Mogbo.
31:50So this is just a flyer, right?
31:52This might even be a draft and stash kind of pick.
31:55Yeah, I think you're right.
31:56I think that's what you're looking at.
31:57But also recognizing it's unusual to get someone at that point in the draft that is going to
32:02ever be impactful.
32:03But also, you know, they've struck some of, you know, some of those picks have struck
32:06over the years.
32:07Right.
32:08So that's what's so funny.
32:09I was looking at like the top 30, you know, the 30 that were drafted last night, and you
32:12know that in three years, we'll look at this list and it'll have so much more meaning of
32:15like who the busts were, who ended up being a complete steal.
32:18And it's just at this point, we just it's so so much of it is just speculation.
32:22But yeah, I do think they're going to take a big I would be, I think.
32:25But like I said, I feel like every time I think something's going to happen in the draft,
32:28something else happens.
32:29It's funny to have watched the chat.
32:30I feel like it's all been about Ronnie.
32:32And it's like a lot of the discourse right now heading into the second round is about
32:35him.
32:36I don't think the Celtics will draft him.
32:38I feel like it'll be a weird play.
32:40But I don't really understand like the brawny politics and how teams are viewing it.
32:44If they're trying to get LeBron, I feel like I thought that whole thing ended with LeBron.
32:48So what is your thought on the whole brawny thing?
32:51I mean, I'm just confused by it because I don't think that it's it used to feel like
32:54if you draft brawny, you'll get LeBron eventually because they want to play together.
32:58But I feel like that's been dispelled at this point where both of them have kind of stated
33:01that that's not a priority anymore.
33:02So I think you just have to look at brawny the prospect and brawny the prospect probably
33:06shouldn't be drafted.
33:07Right.
33:08Just based off of like what he's done so far to this point.
33:10So I don't know.
33:12I think it's kind of weird.
33:13But it will be kind of funny if the Lakers are trying to draft him at 55 and the Celtics
33:17at 54.
33:18And it's a funny storyline, but I don't really Yeah, I don't know.
33:23Yeah, it's a name, right?
33:25And there's no names in this range.
33:27So it's the only guy you can bring up and talk about that generates any intrigue.
33:33Is there potential here?
33:35I guess because right, he's 19 he's he's got, you know, LeBron's genes and like, there's
33:44certainly some flashes in high school there.
33:46So is this guy any worse of a pick than any other flyer at the spot who has next to no
33:51chance of making the league?
33:53Probably, right?
33:55Like, he's probably a little bit worse of a pick than going with like, a big man from
34:01overseas or, you know, some of these guys who've been in college for a little bit who
34:04have been developing and are late risers like Tristan Newton, like you could use a
34:09little bit of a depth point guard if JD Davison is going to go, got to come in and develop
34:14a little bit on the back burner, who knows what happens in that backcourt now or in the
34:18future.
34:19So like, that's a good fire to take.
34:20I don't think Bronny has great point guard skills, or even the potential for great point
34:25guard skills at that spot.
34:26If you're looking for size at six one, he certainly doesn't bring that.
34:32You know, IQ, like a guy like Ozzo Aguadaro out of Marquette is just really blooming as
34:37this really bright guy who can break the game down.
34:40And there's a skill set and size there too at six, nine and a half.
34:44So like, I'd want that guy at 54, Jalen Bridges is a ready made three and D guy, Trent Flowers
34:50is a young guy who played in Australia last year and, you know, KOC ran that there's some
34:55shades of Kelly Oubre there with the shot making.
34:58So like, you just go up and down this list again.
35:00Half these guys, maybe all these guys I'm mentioning right here, probably aren't going
35:03to make it.
35:04But I don't think Bronny is either.
35:07Yeah, you're probably right.
35:08And I think that's why there's been so much hype around him.
35:11It's just people, people are excited by the familiarity and he's someone that's been on
35:15it besides for just being LeBron's son.
35:17I mean, that's why he was but you know, everybody has been following his career for a couple
35:21years now.
35:22And you just can't say the same for these other guys.
35:23And so yeah, I'm curious to see what will happen.
35:26I have a feeling the person's politics will drop to someone that people don't know very
35:29little about.
35:30It's probably not in the name that's on anyone's radar right now.
35:32Or maybe they traded away and they don't draft anybody tonight.
35:34Who knows?
35:35This is true too.
35:36Yeah, I don't think everything passes down.
35:43So I don't know.
35:45It seems like a little bit of a distraction too, right?
35:47Like if he's up in Maine all year, is it like, Oh, Bronny needs to come down and be with
35:51the team.
35:52Like, I don't want to just deal with that whole thing there.
35:54And again, it's tough, right?
35:55Because Bronny should be able to forge his own basketball career and grow and take his
36:01time and be his own person, right?
36:04He shouldn't even be compared to LeBron James in any manner whatsoever, because he's not
36:09LeBron James.
36:10But that whole thing is going to follow him.
36:13Do they need to play together?
36:15That whole thing is going to follow him.
36:17I still think that was probably a little bit of a mistake by LeBron putting that expectation
36:20out there.
36:22But on the bright side, it looks like he's going to go to the Lakers.
36:26It looks like he's going to get an opportunity in part because of his dad's.
36:30And I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
36:32I think that could actually help him.
36:34The fact that he's just able to get his foot in the door and start developing behind the
36:37scenes there, but it shouldn't be in Boston.
36:39I don't think there's any good argument for it.
36:41So we'll see who it is.
36:42Enrique Freeman's another name I'd throw out there, a really late bloomer out of Akron,
36:47another big man prospect.
36:48So who knows?
36:50Who knows if the Celtics even pick here?
36:52I know Brad did say the other day that they're looking at a couple guys at this spot or a
36:56couple guys in this draft.
36:58So do they come out of the draft with two guys tonight?
37:01We will see.
37:02The draft starts at four.
37:03We are headed to the Auerbach Center now to go just follow along with the draft.
37:09We'll react live on the air as the Celtics are picking.
37:12And then we'll hear from Brad Stevens right after that because the draft will be over
37:15pretty quickly after the Celtics pick here tonight.
37:18Again, 4 p.m. is the start of this draft.
37:20I'd say the Celtics probably pick around 6-ish, 5.30, 6.
37:25So we'll be live as that is imminent.
37:27If they trade up, we'll go live then.
37:30And again, we'll be doing it from the Auerbach Center.
37:32So thanks to Noah for stopping by here, previewing a little bit, a lot going on in the Celtics
37:35world.
37:36It's only going to heat up into this weekend.
37:38You can check out her work at Celticsblog.
37:41And we will see you later this afternoon in Brighton.
37:44Thanks, Noah.
37:45Bye.
37:46Thank you.
37:48Thank you.
