00:00Celtics Beat is brought to you by Price Picks and the Game Time app.
00:07Welcome in, everyone.
00:08It is a, well, I guess a 2024 recap show.
00:11Look ahead to 2025.
00:13Bottom line is it's our final Celtics Beat of the calendar year.
00:18Not the season, but the calendar year.
00:20And still, team's not done yet.
00:23Two more games to close out 2024.
00:25But I'm thrilled, for one, to not be sitting here on the heels of a
00:28three-game losing streak because I know sky is falling, Evan Valenti.
00:32Everyone would just be beside themselves.
00:35The title run, it's over.
00:37Close the window.
00:39They're done.
00:39They're cooked.
00:40No, that's not true, obviously.
00:42But this team got right in a big way with a very lopsided, relatively
00:47easy-looking win against the Indiana Pazers to begin a back-to-back.
00:51And that came after falling to the Orlando Magic, a team that our
00:56guest actually used to work for, but also a team that Cedric Maxwell,
01:01weeks, if not months ago on this show, said that he believes at full
01:04strength, which they are not, that the Magic are the Celtics' biggest
01:08threat to come out of the Eastern Conference.
01:11So we can touch on that.
01:12And then, of course, the Christmas Day game where, look, I lost some
01:17money on the Celtics that day.
01:18I went with a little narrative street thinking Boston was going to
01:21take a win at home against Philadelphia, always just living in Joel and
01:25Beat's head.
01:25Didn't happen.
01:26Sixers emerged victorious that day.
01:28Let's bring in Mark D'Amico.
01:30Mark, happy holidays to you for one.
01:32Good to have you back.
01:33It's been a bit.
01:34How are you?
01:35I'm doing great, man.
01:36Right back at you.
01:38Holidays have been great.
01:39Christmas Day didn't get a win, but I had my daughter at her first
01:42first Celtics game ever.
01:43So that was good for me.
01:45And, you know, looking forward to the new year.
01:47So you have, we like to talk about core memories with game time here
01:50on this show.
01:51Yeah, there's one right there.
01:52Memory.
01:53That's it.
01:53That is definitely a core memory.
01:55I got her.
01:55I held her up Simba style on the Jumbo Chon.
01:57So that's awesome.
01:58I got that forever.
02:00That's very cool.
02:01So this team, you know, again, if we're just looking, we're a big
02:04picture show.
02:05We do this once a week.
02:06And so when you're looking at this team big picture, like I dare people
02:10to find a complaint about the year 2024, right?
02:13I mean, we see banner 18 hoisted to the rafters, you know, the
02:17continued Ascension.
02:19I mean, they're you would think they're running out of room real
02:22estate to continue to grow.
02:24And yet here they are Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown.
02:26This team is so incredibly well-rounded and versatile and deep.
02:31No knock on wood and wood right here.
02:33No knock on wood, you know, huge injury concerns as we sit here right
02:38now, although the team obviously has had guys kind of in and out of
02:40the lineup not playing at full strength right now, which has
02:43contributed to some of the the play of late some of the inconsistencies
02:48and Peyton Pritchard positioning himself for six man of the year.
02:51So, you know, things are good.
02:53Obviously in Celtics land.
02:55You're closer to it than the two of us.
02:56How's everybody feeling inside about, you know, this past year on
03:01the whole and where we're going.
03:03I would say it couldn't get any better.
03:05I mean, unless the Celtics were, you know, borderline undefeated and
03:08at the top of the Eastern Conference 2022 2024 literally couldn't
03:12get better.
03:12You win your first championship since 2008 you then in the off
03:16season make the commitment from ownership and from the organization
03:20to like go all in on this run, right?
03:23Like they brought everybody back for the most part.
03:26Obviously, O'Shea Bursette is the one guy who did not come back
03:29this season, but everybody else is back and that took a big financial
03:34commitment from ownership and from the team to be able to do that.
03:38Sam Hauser inks a new deal.
03:40Obviously the Dirk white extension drew how they did it before the
03:43season ended.
03:43So you're bringing all these key guys back to make a run for as long
03:47as you can possibly do it.
03:49And then the Celtics come out this season and they come out hot at
03:53the top of the East.
03:54Obviously the calves have been up there all season long.
03:56They've been unbelievable, which is a storyline that not enough
03:59people are talking about, but the calves have been up there.
04:02The Celtics have been there right there in the number one, number
04:04two seed basically since the start of the season.
04:07So could it get like slightly better if they were at the top and
04:11ahead of the calves?
04:12Sure, but I think anyone should walk away and take a step back at
04:162024 as a whole and say like that was one of the best years you can
04:19possibly have as a fan of the Boston Celtics.
04:23Okay, I totally agree.
04:24And I want to kind of stick with this just for a second because
04:27something happened Friday night after the game that it's not like
04:32a notable thing, but it's something that I picked up on CLNS.
04:35We tweeted.
04:36We Instagrammed it out.
04:37We tweeted it out.
04:38It was a great moment between Payton Pritchard and Jalen Brown and
04:41Peyton sticking up for Jalen and like, Hey man, he takes the toughest
04:44assignment every game.
04:45You know, it's not the easiest job, but he always does it, you know,
04:48and you know, Jalen, you know, smile was like, hey man, thanks.
04:50I appreciate that.
04:51And that's the one thing I love about this team.
04:54Mark is the vibes, the camaraderie, the chemistry of this team is just
05:00off the charts and you're a guy that gets to see this more than anybody
05:04else day in day out up front.
05:06How do you feel like the camaraderie, the chemistry, the consistency of
05:12having this same core together for an extended run, Jason and Jan have
05:16been here for a long time.
05:17Al Horford's been here for a while.
05:18Derek White feels like he's been here forever, even though it's been a
05:22short amount of time.
05:22Payton was drafted here.
05:24How much of the consistency, the camaraderie, the chemistry has
05:27contributed, a lot of C words, to the bountiful 2024 that we've
05:33experienced this year.
05:34I mean, that's a huge part of the equation.
05:38There's no question about it.
05:39All of these guys, there are no bad apples in that locker room and there
05:44haven't been for a couple years now.
05:45And I don't think you can overstate how important that is and the Celtics
05:50and Brad Stevens in particular have always talked about culture.
05:53They want to build a culture and they want to bring players in who fit
05:57that culture.
05:58So at times there might be a free agent or someone who's on the trade
06:03block or anything like that, that, you know, some teams are going after
06:06but the Celtics want to make sure that whoever they bring in the doors
06:09is going to fit into the culture and they have hit home run after home
06:15run after home run from that perspective.
06:17Since Brad Steven really before Brad Stevens rose into the presidency
06:22of basketball operations.
06:24They have always prioritized that while also making sure that that
06:29player is going to bring something to the table that's going to help
06:31the team on the court.
06:32But to your point Evan, like that is a huge element of what was birthed
06:37last season and a championship title run.
06:39I mean when when the Celtics acquired Kristaps Porzingis, I think a lot
06:43of people around the NBA who didn't know him and hadn't really like been
06:47around him a whole lot maybe thought that he was not quite the perfect
06:52teammate and things like like he walked in the door and was a perfect
06:56Celtic from the day he came in and that to me says, okay, Brad Stevens
07:00and the rest of the basketball operations group did their homework and
07:04they knew who they were acquiring not what they were acquiring but who
07:08they were acquiring and that goes across the board.
07:10Derek white coming over from San Antonio.
07:12I mean you'd the list goes on and on so I and to the point of last night
07:17of Peyton and Jalen going up at can we get double podium appearances
07:21like every night awesome moments always happen.
07:24It's happened with Derek white up there with Jason Tatum like it and
07:28that's the interesting thing that I want to touch on is like it can be
07:32any mix of any two players and you always see them like smiling and
07:37having a good time in getting along if you look around the NBA and you
07:42watch in the postseason in particular because so many players have to
07:46come up to the podium after games that camaraderie does not always
07:51exist like sometimes it's just maybe two guys who get along and that's
07:55the duo that's going up to talk together at the podium the Celtics are
07:58unique in the fact that it can be any mix of two players that go up there
08:02together and that camaraderie is always going to shine through so that stuff
08:06comes through on the court.
08:07There's no question about that that has been a huge element to what the
08:11Celtics were able to accomplish in 2024 and I think it's going to be a
08:15huge element of what they might accomplish in 2025.
08:18I'll put a different term on it than what you guys have been saying even
08:22though it's largely the same thing which is lack of ego you go up and
08:28down that's a monster you go up and down this roster and you look at and
08:31I'm not going to start with the biggest names but like Peyton Pritchard of
08:35course no ego is a four-year college player most guys aren't at this stage
08:38if they're good like legitimately good and have you know this bright NBA
08:43future now he has you know become an exception he's a solid you know
08:47serviceable better than that NBA player he'd be a starter on a whole lot of
08:51teams but you know he couldn't have come in obviously with ego Sam Hauser
08:55undrafted player like there's no ego there Al Horford we just we know who he
09:00is and what kind of guy he is and what type of player he was and was before
09:04coming to Boston no ego Derek White had to earn his stripes in the NBA no ego
09:09true holiday a championship player and Olympian but someone who also has
09:14bounced around and played basically every role he's been the sixth man he's
09:18been the 20 point per game guy no ego and so you know you climb does though
09:23it does though Adam like your name and all those guys but it does start at the
09:27top because that's but that's where I want to go that's kind of where I'm
09:30building to yeah again like poor Zingas he's been humbled at various stops so
09:35came in you know with his ego at least in check I'm sure he had one at one
09:38point obviously but then you go to Tatum and Brown who are you know the top as
09:43far as the players go but I think to talk about them two guys that absolutely
09:48have the talent the ability the swagger to have maybe in another situation
09:54maybe not playing together loads of ego attached to them is it the guy who
10:00essentially raised them in the NBA Brad Stephens and the culture that has been
10:05born since Brad joined the organization obviously the role that he's in now is
10:09it Joe Missoula and his personality as head coach of this team and just the way
10:14he conducts himself and a guy who again you know like he could have adopted
10:21something of an ego over the last couple of years you know going from as people
10:25like to say second row Joe to the head coach of an NBA championship team ego
10:31could have formed along the way and yet it just I don't know I'm kind of
10:35captivated by the fact that you look up and down this team front office coaching
10:39staff roster and you just see a group that meshes as well as it does without
10:44this threat of like who's going to be that bad apple mark there's there's a
10:49lot of talk in the NBA about heat culture and that is real and it's been a
10:56thing for what a decade and a half two decades whatever since Pat Riley got
11:00there and it's because every player they bring in the door winds up developing
11:04into something the Celtics have Celtic culture as well and it's a little bit
11:09different than heat culture and it's going to what you're talking about there
11:12of there just are no egos ever and I think that goes to you know show a lot
11:19about the front office's ability to know like I said who they are drafting not
11:26what they are drafting in terms of a player the person versus the player I
11:30think the person part of that equation is very important but then like I put so
11:36much on the shoulders of Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown because if you look at
11:40these two guys and you go back through the history of the NBA and how many
11:45players were in their position and didn't take the high road and didn't
11:50take the route of team first I mean the list is as long as a CVS receipt Jalen
11:57Brown is in a position yes sorry about that CVS but I had to say it Jalen Brown
12:02is in a position where he could easily be a number one on a team in the NBA an
12:09average 30 a game and take 25 plus shots and all that stuff and that generally is
12:14what most most players seek when they come into the NBA they want to have that
12:19name they want to have that cachet of I was one of the best scorers when I was
12:24in the league I mean even Kobe Bryant there was a time when he wanted to get
12:28Shaq out of the door so he could be that guy and only that guy and win a
12:33championship by himself Jalen Brown has accepted the fact that Jason Tatum is
12:40generally speaking the number one offensive option for the team and Jalen's
12:45role on this team in order for this team to be at the top of the top year in and
12:50year out as he's got to be a great scorer a dynamic score but he's also got
12:55to be one of the best defenders in the NBA and so like you look like I said you
12:59look back through the history of the NBA and people who are in that type of
13:04position where like you could be the number one or you could be this role
13:10where you are going to help the team win championship a championship and
13:15hopefully championships with an S there aren't many players that chose to go
13:20Jalen's route that he has taken and the same thing goes for Jason Tatum like the
13:24conversation has come up this season about MVP and blah blah blah blah every
13:28time it comes up he says if that happens great but what I'm concentrating on is
13:35winning and so how many players have been as talented as Jason Tatum in the
13:41history of the NBA and had that opportunity to he could average 35 a
13:45game right like Harden did back in the day like he could put up wild stats but
13:50that's not what's going to help the team win so both of those guys like I have so
13:54much respect for the way that they approach the situations that they are in
13:59the opportunities that they have in them choosing to take this route as opposed
14:05to the routes that many players as I said a long long list of them have
14:10chosen to take in the history of the NBA real quick break we got to tell you
14:13today's show is powered by prize picks prize picks is the best place to get
14:18real-money sports action with over 10 million members billions of dollars in
14:23awarded winnings price picks has made daily fantasy sports accessible to
14:28everyone you just pick more or less on at least two players for a shot to win
14:33up to 1,000 times your cash 1,000 times your cash run your game all season long
14:39on price picks have so many things coffin make price picks great but in my
14:44opinion I've talked about this every single week it's the flex play okay they
14:47invented price picks invented the flex play which means you can still cash out
14:51even if your lineup isn't perfect literally nobody in the world is doing
14:57that it's the coolest thing they do and it makes all these these these I give
15:02out advice quote-unquote every single week it makes it a little bit more
15:05profitable for me because I usually get two out of three or whatever I it's it's
15:09just better and we have two weeks left the NFL regular season few more chances
15:13to play prize picks with a full slate of games so we'll start with Drake May baby
15:19more than a half a touchdown against the Chargers the defensive unit for the
15:24Chargers is tough but Drake he was a garbage time he'll get one I love Josh
15:28downs more than 47 and a half receiving yards
15:31Holtz V Giants the Giants are terrible let's take advantage of this one more
15:36time and then this one's a little rogue the last one I have for you but the guy
15:40is an animal he is an absolute machine Brandon Aubrey his longest field goal
15:47it's got to be longer or more than forty eight and a half yards you hit all
15:52three of these Kaufman you get three point seven five times your money man
15:57jumping into kicker props I love that now join now this holiday season prize
16:01picks is giving away two free picks in December in December of course folks is
16:07running out they're giving away 30 plus million dollars in rewards during
16:12download the app today use code CLNS get $50 instantly after you play your first
16:19$5 lineup and download that app today use CLNS that's your code to get $50
16:26instantly after you play that first $5 lineup prize picks run your game let's
16:33get back to the show yeah and that selflessness is one of the things that
16:36you know you hear coaches talk about it opposing coaches talk about it like the
16:41last one I heard and I might have missed one because the holidays have
16:44might had enough but JD bigger staff after the Detroit game was like there's
16:49a reason why this team won the title because they have guys in their team
16:53that are always looking for the next pass the better pass that leads to the
16:56better shot that's why it's so hard to defend yeah and that's what leads me
17:00into my little rant here that I'm gonna just you know the tea up for mark and
17:04he's gonna just gonna slam it down for me this is part of the reason why when
17:08people start you know this also on a two-game losing streak and like the
17:11world's ending and and I thought last year maybe we got rid of this I thought
17:15maybe a title winning a title would fix this right like if you go back very
17:20recently Nikola Jokic wasn't the Terminator until he won a title and now
17:24it's like well doesn't matter unless unless the clock says three zeros on it
17:28you can't count Denver out yet but here we are mark and it's December almost to
17:352025 and the Celics go on a two-game losing streak down just to remind
17:39everybody which I'm sure most of our aware at this point the Celics haven't
17:42lost three games in a row in what 2023 2022 it's been about a long time it's
17:49been a long time okay you would think at winning at the level that Boston has and
17:55again they want a title that's different they've been a kajillion playoff games
17:59and won the majority of them you would think at a certain point that we
18:04wouldn't have to do this we wouldn't have to have meltdowns every time they
18:08lose two games in a row we could just say hey shot variants or hey stuff
18:12happens but yet here we are and then you have the game against Indiana Friday
18:17night where clearly they wanted to get out and make sure that this was a game
18:22they could put their stamp on and the physicality of the Orlando game maybe as
18:26you know maybe woken up a little bit they slowly woke up against Indiana I
18:29think there's also a little motivation from the loss earlier in the year that
18:33they lost I think in overtime think by three I think it was 137 134 but they
18:38write the ship so quickly and yet until they write the ship it feels like the
18:43sky is falling and it's killing me does this get in the locker room at all mark
18:48I know you read this stuff you see it you hear it is everybody else here in
18:52this stuff because it's driving me crazy absolutely does not get in the locker
18:56room those guys are confident they know what they can accomplish and whatnot I
18:59think what it is is there's two parts of the equation one is just the emotion
19:03of wanting your team to succeed like so much like you want it so much that
19:09seeing them play not up to their capabilities on and I gets you
19:13frustrated I get that usually it's the same thing for I mean maybe not the
19:18exact same thing apples to oranges here but like when a coach goes and sits down
19:23at his postgame podium he's not gonna think the same thing after the game you
19:27know 10 minutes after the game ended as 24 hours after the game ended after he
19:31got to watch the tape back and you know let the emotion subside a little bit
19:35it's the same thing for fans right so when you lose a game by nine points to a
19:38team that you probably should have beat when you're talking about talent
19:41everyone's gonna be upset in that moment but you fast-forward 24 hours usually
19:47those emotions could subside the second part of the equation in in my humble
19:51opinion is that this the Celtics fan base has seen the team succeed and they
19:57they know how great this team is right like it's basically the same team they
20:02know how great this team is so if they see a stretch of two games a week
20:08whatever it is 10 days where the team isn't quite playing to that up to that
20:14capability I think that just boils over with a little bit of frustration which I
20:19think is like that's okay like that that's fine if there's some frustration
20:22because I think even the Celtics in those moments and Joe Missoula said it
20:26after the game like they weren't playing up to their capabilities during those
20:29couple of games either offensively or defensively so I get it frustrations are
20:35gonna happen if you lose some games but I will remind everyone and I said this
20:38on our postgame podcast last night the Celtics have lost eight games this
20:43season by an average of four point six points okay they still have not lost a
20:48game by double digits and they were the last team in the NBA to lose
20:52consecutive games so if you just take a step back and look big picture like
20:57things aren't that bad and I think now you know after getting getting back into
21:01the wind column I think everyone probably forgets about the Orlando loss
21:05and you know you're gonna feel a lot better about things now that the team
21:07got back on track but if people just take a step back and look at the big
21:11picture it's never gonna be that bad because the team is so darn good I just
21:16think the whole sort of conversation around what we're doing right here is
21:21is funny and it's because it's evolved so much like Bill Simmons and this was
21:26probably what back in like the the page two days you know he would talk about
21:32not that he was the first I'm sure but kind of you know famous for it talking
21:37about teams whatever team whoever you root for win championship and then
21:42there's this grace period like you know everything is okay for X and and I'm
21:46not talking about weeks or months I mean like you win a championship and you know
21:50you can't complain about anything for the next five years or whatever like a
21:54true grace period that you would give these teams now all of that has gone up
22:00in flames for a multitude of reasons a multitude of very real reasons I think
22:05if if you boil it down to where we are in society on the cusp of 2025 there is
22:12negativity sells you know so it's it's talking heads nationally locally
22:17whatever you know complaining bitching bemoaning something that has got a
22:22little two-game skid losing to Orlando without the Magic's best players all of
22:26that stuff people get you know sort of immersed in that so that's one another
22:31is social media where it's just it spreads like wildfire you get the the
22:36slightest little tweet about anything even if it's not an accurate report and
22:40it just spreads spreads spreads doesn't stop and that again feeds into
22:45negativity and the other one we never really talk about this but it's it's
22:49look personal experience because I'm deep in these weeds it's very true
22:54gambling you know gambling now with the legalization I don't just mean
22:58Massachusetts I mean you know largely across the country at this point in time
23:02it makes a difference to where Celtics go out and you know win a game by six
23:08cool they won is how you should feel but oh shit they were seven-point
23:15favorites and they didn't cover the spread and I lost my bet you know then
23:19people are just pissed it feels like a loss because that person did lose you
23:23know what I mean so it's all of this stuff that contributes to just sort of
23:27like people love now I mean I don't think consciously but human nature is
23:32what it is people just love to look for an avenue to complain and and to be
23:37upset about something which is why you can look at all the different things
23:41that mark outlined with positivities for this team and someone will in the
23:46comment section of this video on YouTube on the CLNS page will say yeah but you
23:51know they've lost more games at home than all of last year right like you're
23:55aware of that so there's there's just always something so that's what I say
23:58all of that mark just because I'm thrilled it doesn't get into the
24:02locker room and I would like to believe that even if it's not a talking point
24:07obviously that Missoula and company these guys because of all these outlets
24:10they're on social media or their friends and family are they know what's going on
24:14that they do find such success in just blocking it all out and focusing on the
24:19job at hand because honestly some of the stuff that happened in the offseason
24:23surrounding star members of this team could have derailed things to start off
24:28this year a little bit if guys started chasing their own stuff and it goes
24:32back to that selflessness they haven't they've stayed unified which is why
24:36they're positioned to do what we all hope they'll do yeah and I'll say one
24:40more thing on on this front is so we have our this is not a plug but we have
24:45our post game podcast called sound off at the end of every game I send out a
24:50post saying like hey what's everyone's reactions thoughts etc to this game let
24:55me know and then I pull a few to bring into the podcast every night I will say
24:59those those recent couple of losses and this has been a trend throughout the
25:03whole regular season there has been more people have been more people who have
25:08replied after a loss and said like no big deal like I'm good it's just a bad
25:13night the team's gonna be okay I have no worries about them there's been more of
25:18that than there has been like oh my god the sky is falling down there's always
25:23gonna be those people who are super negative and that's okay again I think
25:26it gets back to the emotions and everything and then they see a game like
25:29last night and they they feel much better about themselves that's totally
25:32fine but I will say that like the amount of people who are confident in this team
25:39regardless of the results of the night in and night out is much higher than
25:44what it was like a couple seasons ago if I was sending out these tweets even last
25:47season before they had won a championship if I was sending these out
25:51say early in the regular season they lost three straight or something like
25:54that which they didn't as we've already talked about but hypothetically speaking
25:58before they won the championship if I was doing this I think there would be
26:01much more of like I don't know I just don't trust these guys like they haven't
26:05proven it but they have proven it now and so that's why I feel like I am
26:10seeing that trend on social where a good chunk of the replies every night after
26:16the team loses is fans saying like it was a bad night it's gonna happen it's
26:21an 82 game schedule no one's gonna be perfect so I just want to throw that out
26:25there that like it's I don't feel like it's overwhelming I feel like it's a
26:30small segment of of either the fan base or NBA onlookers who kind of like go
26:36veer in the negative direction after a couple losses understandable and you
26:41know look as we kind of wind this show down a little bit Kaufman I'm not sure
26:44where you have planned left to ask mark here but you know great 2024 excellent
26:50best you could possibly ask for in my opinion how do we look for 2025 buddy
26:54how we feeling how are the vibes I mean what else could you ask for right you
26:59just got a we talked about it already like health and luck are always going to
27:04come into play for any team that's looking to win a championship it's
27:07difficult to win a title if you're not healthy and you're not lucky like you
27:12even look back at last year's postseason run 16 and 3 to win a
27:15championship but there were some moments where the Celtics got lucky and Joe
27:19Missoula has talked about this we're like if the coin flips the other
27:22direction they they lose a game you never know how the series is gonna go in
27:27particular those early games against Indiana when a couple of moments you
27:32know went against the Indiana Pacers just a couple very small things the
27:36series could have been much different so you got to be lucky you got to be
27:39healthy let's hope that the Celtics had that coming up in 2025 as they had for
27:44the majority of 2024 and Adam I don't know if we're gonna get into anything
27:49else here but one thing one other thing I want to touch on is Jalen and Jason
27:53we've already talked about them a little bit but Jalen winning player of the year
27:58in the NBA for Sports Illustrated I thought that was awesome for him to get
28:02that recognition and for Chris Mannix to be I mean obviously he's worked around
28:07the Celtics for most of his career but I think he was able to take a step back
28:11and see from like a big-picture perspective of like what did players
28:16accomplish as opposed to what is the reputation of players right like Luka
28:21Donchage has this reputation as this triple-double machine and averaging 30
28:25something points a game Jalen's not that guy but Jalen Brown accomplished the
28:30pinnacle he won Eastern Conference Finals MVP he won finals MVP and he won
28:35a championship while being one of the key players if not the key player in
28:39that run so I thought that was awesome and the other thing for Jason Tatum is
28:43not a lot of people are talking about it but he is having by far his best
28:50rebounding season of his career he's got eight straight games of double-digit
28:53rebounds he's averaging nine point six rebounds on the season and almost 30
28:58points so he's veering in the direction and of a 30-point double-double of
29:03averaging that this season he's like right on the cusp of that and I haven't
29:08looked back in in the history books I don't know how many Celtics have done
29:12that it might not be any and I don't know how many players into me NBA
29:16history have done that so that's something to pay attention to like Jason
29:21Tatum has clearly there's an emphasis on him attacking the glasses season that's
29:26a role they need him to play and he's doing it at an exceptionally high level
29:31and I think those numbers if the Celtics take care of business are going
29:35to wind up helping his cause when it comes to that MVP conversation at the
29:39end of the season we'll take one more break to tell you today's show is
29:42powered by game time there is nothing better than going to a live game truly
29:48nothing it's fun to watch on TV it's fun to you know hang out at a bar or
29:51whatever but being there being in those seats in the building you just can't top
29:56it so many core memories I have as a kid hell even now with my kids revolve
30:00around going to some sporting event so I mean think about it I took my my kid
30:07my oldest and a few of his friends we went to a game over at Fenway it was a
30:12Red Sox game it was a few years ago at this point and they of all people I mean
30:20that here's a throwback name for you have of all people they're coming back
30:24coming back coming back they go to extra innings Travis Shaw it's a game-winning
30:29Grand Slam that is the only reason that my oldest son even knows the name
30:36Travis Shaw or remembers Travis Shaw that's a throwback he remembers his
30:40birthday celebration Travis Shaw was the hero man so going to a game it's easier
30:46than ever thanks to our friends over at game time yeah and game time has a new
30:50feature called game time picks that makes seniors your favorite teams or
30:55favorite people in concert even easier they filter out the fluff to show you
30:59all the incredible deals on great seats so the waste of time searching through
31:03thousands and thousands and thousands of tickets plus you get all in pricing this
31:07is my favorite thing because I hate the hidden fees drives me crazy game time
31:12toggles this feature to show you the total upfront but no surprise fees at
31:16checkouts you can get a panoramic view from your seat and they have a lowest
31:20price guarantee Kaufman if you find tickets for less game time will credit
31:25you 110% of the difference Kaufman you are making money with game time yeah you
31:31just you can't top it you cannot top it 110% oh god I would like to profit on
31:36game time and go see these games you can't it's game time ticket coverage I
31:40mean your purchase it's covered the most flexible customer service policy in the
31:44entire ticketing industries take the guesswork out of buying tickets with
31:47game time download the game time app create an account use the code CLNS $20
31:52off your first purchase it is truly that easy terms apply again create your
31:57account just download that game time app do so and then redeem your code CLNS for
32:0220 bucks off download game time today what time is it game time get back to
32:08the show which by the way we've talked about on this show before that like I
32:12have no issue whatsoever with Tatum wanting to be NBA and be MVP regular
32:20season there's a difference guys between wanting it and hoping that your team
32:25accolades contribute to your personal accolades versus chasing it like Mark
32:31said Tatum could be out there looking to average 35 plus points and take 30 shots
32:37again like get the volume get the stats and not necessarily always do the things
32:43that best help the team toward winning he recognizes and he has discussed this
32:49that a lot of time if you look back through NBA history that stuff kind of
32:53takes care of itself if you're a really good player on a really good team then
32:59you might get some really good awards basically is what it comes down to and
33:03so he's cognizant of that of course he wants the award and I don't you know
33:08begrudge him for wanting it he should want it like anyone that you know like
33:13a perk right a little while back was like crapping all over to like Tatum in
33:17this you know quote-unquote chase for the MVP like he should want it that
33:22should be important to him just don't take yourself or your team off course to
33:26try and go and get it and you'll be fine like Tatum is legitimately right now not
33:32even halfway through the year I realize but he is legitimately in the most
33:35valuable player conversation which last couple of years he hasn't been and we've
33:40had to do this and people what do you mean he's not like you you knew like
33:43sure top five top six whatever but there's a difference between top five
33:47top six and top like two and you know really being a candidate to win the
33:52award Jason Tatum right now is a true candidate to win this award and it could
33:57be a an incredible capper obviously to 2025 if they can go out win a
34:02consecutive title you know get all of these personal accolades whatever it may
34:09be you know I know that like Jalen Brown you were talking about it obviously you
34:13know he is someone that would love to be on an all-nba team all-nba defense
34:17whatever it may be I mean he did he accomplished so much last year between
34:22the Eastern Conference Finals MVP NBA Finals MVP winning the championship like
34:27you said that trifecta but then again as he is discussed and we've discussed
34:31getting shut out when it came to the Olympics or being on those all-nba
34:37whatever teams whichever category so there is I just like that there's meat
34:41on the bone there's stuff that these guys are still chasing and and and that
34:45all of these things including of course you know the basketball athlete of the
34:50year for Sports Illustrated this stuff it just means something to them what
34:54before we do wrap here because you know you brought it up and we were gonna get
34:58there as far as Jalen Brown and and getting that distinction what does it
35:04mean to him do you think I don't know how much you've talked to him about it
35:07at all but you know to to be in in that category like I just he seems like the
35:13kind of guy that that type of award means more to him than you know being
35:21first-team all-nba for instance not that I think he's going to be that but if
35:26you were comparing the two I think that some of these types of awards or like a
35:30you know like like the SI equivalent of time man of the year whatever it may be
35:35I think this stuff really resonates with him because of all the things that he
35:39does both on and off the floor now I haven't gotten a chance to talk to Jalen
35:43about it last night after after the game I go straight up to our studio and
35:47record the postgame podcast that I mentioned so I haven't gotten a chance
35:50to talk to him about it but I would imagine that receiving a type and by the
35:56way he has reposted that and put it on his social channels like clearly he's
35:59proud of it which he should be but I think no matter who you are any award or
36:07or anytime you're chosen to win something for what you have done on the
36:12court or off the court it's some form of a validation right for what you have
36:18the effort that you have put into developing yourself either as a player
36:23or with your foundation whatever it is anytime you get that type of recognition
36:29it's going to be kind of an affirmation moment for you that everything that
36:32you've done is paying off so you know like I said a few minutes ago I'm happy
36:39for Jalen and he deserves it and I think it's really cool to see Jalen and
36:46pretend and by the way I would love for Jason to get all of the awards and
36:50everything but you know not everyone can get both but it's really cool to see
36:55Jalen get this stuff with while taking that route that I talked about earlier
37:00right that he's in this position where he easily could be like no I'm out like
37:06I want to be the guy I want to be the one who leads the team and gets all of
37:11the recognition and gets all of the awards but he's taken the high route and
37:16said no like I'm good with doing this to try to make this team win and it's cool
37:23to see him take that route like consciously he has made that decision to
37:28do that and then now all of this stuff is following along I just think it's so
37:32cool and the same thing goes for Jason you know as I said like not everyone can
37:36win there's only one winner of all these awards so two guys can't get it but Jason
37:42is getting first team all NBA every season like that's because he's choosing
37:48to win and so it's just so cool to see these guys get that affirmation and in
37:54particular Jalen because I think he sacrifices the most out of any probably
38:00superstar level player in the NBA it's just so cool to see that for him I can't
38:06wait to congratulate him a person didn't get to do it last night but I hope to do
38:10that here coming up tomorrow Celtics 23 and 8 two games left in 2024 before we
38:17flip the calendar both are at home you got the Pacers one more time hopefully
38:21another 30 plus point win although I didn't really get the impression Joe
38:24Missoula enjoys those games quite as much as those those giant blowouts
38:28whether you know wrong side right side that you just don't learn as much from I think he likes
38:33when it's a sweat and these things are are competitive down to the wire building habits
38:37toward the playoffs and all that stuff but you know what for good momentum out of it though
38:40like I don't think you could argue against that right like it's a good it's a good rhythm man
38:44absolutely so we got the Pacers again on Sunday then Tuesday New Year's Eve against the Raptors
38:50afternoon game three o'clock Eastern time and then you can go out enjoy your dinner whatever
38:54you're doing with friends family whoever and then it's on to 2025 starting off with a road trip
39:00Minnesota Houston OKC and Denver a gauntlet in the first January is that is a month that is a
39:09month gonna be fun gonna be a lot of fun to talk about this team always fun to have Mark D'Amico
39:14from the Celtics on with us and break down all things going on with this organization inside
