00:00They're out on Stamkos and Marchessault.
00:02Marchessault was my fallback guy.
00:04I liked him a lot, and at five and a half million dollars a year.
00:07Seems real stomachable.
00:08Seems real palatable.
00:09Yeah.
00:10Five years, though, but still.
00:11Five years is your window.
00:12If you want to sign a guy for five years, sign a guy for five years.
00:15I'm down with that.
00:16That makes sense.
00:18Their own free agents that they tried to re-sign, they couldn't come to terms with.
00:22David Perron, which doesn't bother me.
00:25Gostisbaer doesn't really bother me, but he's so good on the power play.
00:29Combine the two, though.
00:30They're both good on the power play.
00:31You're missing goals now.
00:32So now you need to add in the forward group and, presumably, a defenseman or a goalie.
00:37Now you've created more needs that you must fill.
00:39And then there's the name of Jacob Chikrin that comes up all the time.
00:43People wanted him on defense, and he gets traded to Washington for a former Red Wing
00:49and a third round pick.
00:52So right now, it's all the excitement I had last night about the Patrick Kane signing,
01:02the rumors of Stephen Stamkos, the trade rumors of Jacob Truba, and thinking that all three
01:08guys could be wearing the winged wheel was really enticing to me.
01:13And now I'm still happy about Patrick Kane because I think Patrick Kane will be an even
01:17better player this season, upcoming, than what he was last year for the Red Wings, because
01:21he'll play more games.
01:23And presumably, he's healthy and training to be like he normally would train on a season
01:29rather than rehabbing.
01:31But Kenny, here's what I'm scared about.
01:36Are they saving the money for John Gibson?
01:39The goaltender?
01:40If I hear the name John Gibson one more time, this is, I mean, okay, Gator, what's the benefit?
01:46What's the benefit of getting John Gibson?
01:48Is he not a lateral move from Lyon and Jusso?
01:52I don't see him as being all that much better.
01:53You could say, oh, he plays for the Ducks.
01:55That's, you know, that stinks.
01:56So he's in a bad spot.
01:57Sure.
01:58He's played like that for five years.
01:59He hasn't gotten any better.
02:01So what am I supposed to be jumping up and down?
02:04Like the John Gibson smoke, I didn't understand from the beginning because you say, all right,
02:08you want to get better either defensively or in net.
02:11That does neither.
02:12That's at best a lateral move.
02:14Maybe there's a little bit more juice to squeeze out of it.
02:16But to me, John Gibson's a nothing burger.
02:19Yeah.
02:20It's been five years since he was a good goaltender, a really good goaltender league, but it's
02:25been five years.
02:26And yeah, it's the argument is the Anaheim Ducks thing, the Anaheim sucks and the Red
02:29Wings are better.
02:30It's the opposite of the Allmark thing because people are like, oh, Allmark's only good because
02:34he played in Boston.
02:35Well, we'll see, I guess.
02:36I think he's a pretty damn good goaltender.
02:38So what's going to make Kenny Cott happy as a Red Wing fan, as a hockey fan here in Detroit?
02:44What do they, what do you want to hear about?
02:46Because it seems like free agency wise, it's kind of, they're already been picked through.
02:50So what do you got?
02:51You know, is there a trade that you want to see?
02:54Would you feel better if Trouba is announced as a trade?
02:56There it is.
02:57That's exactly it is.
02:58It begins the bare minimum as a Jake Trouba.
03:00You get substantially better on the defensive end.
03:02He's a winner.
03:03He knows how to win.
03:04He's been in this league for a long time.
03:05He's a leader, which is exactly what you need for this young defensive core.
03:09You have guys coming up that you're touting like Albert Johanson, and then you have Edvinson
03:13that came up last year, and you have a very young defensive nucleus.
03:17Even Mo Sider, still young.
03:18So to bring in a guy like Trouba, yeah, that helps a hell of a lot.
03:22And he's a, and let's be honest about it, he's a bully.
03:25He's a mean dude on the ice.
03:27And what has been one of the primary concerns for Wings fans this past couple of years?
03:32Oh, they're not mean enough, they're not gritty enough.
03:34We need a Bob Probert.
03:35You know, we've heard, we've got that call a million times though, Gator, and you know
03:39it.
03:41To me, that, I guess that silences some of that.
03:43But it is an important thing to have somebody who can be a bit of a bully on the ice.
03:47I agree with that.
03:48Kenny, thank you very much.
03:49Anytime.
03:50And hopefully we'll have some more updates on the Red Wings and positive updates that
03:53players have added to make us go, yay!
03:55As opposed to, yay.
03:59That remains to be seen.
04:00Some ticket text coming in.
04:01Kane may be a point of game guy, but to the detriment of overall Wings scoring, 30 games
04:05without Kane, the Wings were plus 22.
04:08Gold differential, 48 games with Kane, they were minus 19.
04:11Gold differential.
04:12They only won 22 games with Kane on the ice.
04:14The Brinkett lost his game when Kane started December 7th, where the Wings lost 10 of the
04:19next 13.
04:21Let's go Red Wings.
04:22It's a lot there, okay?
04:23And also, I think the Red Wings got off to a better start than people expected to.
04:28They bring in Patrick Kane, and yeah, it changed things up, shuffled the lineup a little bit.
04:34I think some of those numbers can be a little misleading.
04:37I don't think you can just blame Da Brinkett losing his game because Patrick Kane got here.
04:42I mean, Da Brinkett has had long stretches before where he hadn't performed in his career.
04:47It was disappointing there when it happened.
04:52But I think a healthy Patrick Kane this year is going to be better for the Red Wings.
04:58He was healthy enough last year for the Red Wings.
04:59He was a point of game guy.
05:02But the other thing this does, when you're losing your own free agents, and it creates
05:07roster spots.
05:09So if you wanted to see Jonathan Berrigan, unless he's going to be part of a trade, now
05:13Berrigan gets to maybe get a regular shift.
05:16If you want to see Marco Kasper, Marco Kasper's going to have a chance to make this team.
05:21Will Nate Danielson have a chance to make this team?
05:25You might see some of those younger players getting that opportunity.
05:27You know you're going to see a couple of defensemen.
05:30Another text came in.
05:34Not a fan of forwards 34 and older and defensemen that are over 32 unless you're on the verge
05:38of winning the cup.
05:40Happy with Kane.
05:41It was just a one-year deal and not longer.
05:43Jacob, a 32-year contract would be perfect.
05:46You know my answer on Stamkos.
05:48Yeah, well, if you're going to go with the over 34 forward thing, then you probably don't
05:55want Stamkos.
05:57It doesn't matter.
05:58Stamkos is not going to be here as he's going to sign a deal with the Nashville Predators
06:03along with every other great free agent that's out there.
06:06248-539-9797 is the telephone number, but other things can happen.
06:11I'm expecting Eisman to make a trade to bring in players at this point.
