00:00I got a lot of reaction.
00:03I'm bringing this up because I keep hearing
00:05people talk about it, people tweet about it.
00:08You know, you've got people from,
00:12you know, respected baseball pundits
00:15that have to react to it.
00:16They'll do their mailbags,
00:17and people always ask the question about Tarek Skubal.
00:20Should the Tigers trade Tarek Skubal?
00:22What could the Tigers get in a trade
00:24if they were to trade Tarek Skubal?
00:26And people are responding to it.
00:27So, thought I'd bring it up.
00:29I don't like the idea of trading Tarek Skubal.
00:31I wanna hang on to the guys that I think
00:34are corner pieces of the franchise,
00:36someone you can build around,
00:38someone who could be here and help you win a championship.
00:41But I'm willing to listen to the other side of it.
00:44I'm not gonna be completely stubborn about this.
00:47Someone says, I don't want to trade Skubal.
00:49I'd rather extend him.
00:51However, taking into account his contract
00:53ends in two and a half years, Scott Boris is his agent,
00:56making it difficult but not impossible to extend him.
00:59How much he will cost versus how much Illich and Harris
01:02would be willing to give him,
01:04and I don't believe the Tigers
01:05will be in the World Series window
01:06before his contract ends in two and a half years,
01:08leads me to believe that trading him
01:10is the best thing for the long term of the Tigers.
01:13That's from Robbie at work.
01:15It's a lot there in a text, but we appreciate the text.
01:21Yeah, I mean, that's kind of an unknown factor about this
01:24is how much money are the Tigers willing to spend
01:28to hang on to him?
01:30Are they willing to extend him now?
01:31Or are they gonna wait this thing out
01:33until he hits free agency?
01:34Well, you mentioned earlier they did spend some money
01:36this offseason, Cole Keith, right?
01:38They gave him a contract that he necessarily didn't earn,
01:41but they felt that his projection was gonna be good,
01:44he was gonna be a really good player,
01:46so let's save some money.
01:48They gave him that contract, let's just be honest,
01:50to save some money in the future, right?
01:52Yes.
01:52If you extend Skubal now,
01:54you're trying to save money for the future, right?
01:57Because in the future, when he does hit free agency,
01:59he's gonna cost even more.
02:01If you get him a six-year contract now,
02:03it would cost you less than what it was
02:05if you waited for his free agent year,
02:07which is 2027, as early as free agent year.
02:10And salaries will go up by then.
02:11Of course.
02:12And so if they do it now,
02:13they'll say, quote unquote, save some money.
02:16But the other thing is, keeping that in mind,
02:20you've got him for the rest of this year
02:21plus two more years that you really don't have to pay.
02:24And that saves even more money
02:25than giving him an extension now.
02:28But the other thing that Tex mentioned, though,
02:30is the window.
02:31When are they gonna be a World Series contender?
02:33When are they gonna make the playoffs?
02:34Gator, when do you think they're gonna make the playoffs?
02:36And if so, they're gonna have to get some bats then.
02:38Yes, without a question.
02:39How do we get those bats?
02:41They could do it next year
02:43to be a playoff team as early as next year.
02:44They could.
02:46But they are gonna have to go out
02:48and free agency or in trades and find something.
02:51They got a bargaining chip in Jack Flaherty.
02:56Now, this sucks because this is just dumb luck
02:59that Flaherty's got this back issue that has flared up
03:01and we don't know how good he's going to be.
03:04He won't pitch again until this Thursday,
03:05more than likely, against Cleveland.
03:09But if he is good to go
03:12and pitches like the Jack Flaherty we saw this year,
03:16then you could probably get at least a piece
03:20that is going to help your lineup, I would imagine.
03:22Now, it would be a prospect you're getting,
03:25but it's somebody's prospect
03:26that is ready to play this year.
03:28But they're blocked by somebody.
03:31Now, can you get one of the Baltimore players?
03:33I don't know if you can get one of those guys,
03:34but certainly try.
03:37There are other players around in baseball
03:39that they're in other prospects from other teams
03:42that maybe there's a guy
03:44that can help this team right away.
03:46But I'll admit this, if you're trading Scoble,
03:51I mean, you're getting those guys.
03:53You're going to get somebody's top two prospects
03:56in an organization
03:57that could likely help your team out right now.
03:59What do the Tigers have, just moving forward?
04:03I mean, again, it's the same thing we talk about
04:04with the Red Wings,
04:06that you're hoping your young guys take another step forward.
04:08I really liked what I saw in three games.
04:13It's ridiculous to say it.
04:15I really liked what I saw from Parker Meadows
04:17when he came back and now he's hurt again.
04:19Not again, but he's hurt.
04:22Which stunts his growth.
04:23I love what I've seen from Colt Keith.
04:25Love what I've seen from Riley Green.
04:27The last three months, Riley Green's OPS
04:29has been over 900, 900,
04:31and now it's like 1,200 for the month here in July.
04:34Love what I've seen there.
04:36That's nice growth.
04:37But I can no longer count on Spencer Torkelson
04:41being the guy and developing.
04:43He had 31 home runs last year.
04:46Thought for sure that's a guy.
04:47He may not be a guy.
04:49He's not showing it right now at Toledo.
04:51And you still had hope for him for the longest
04:54because he started off slow last year as well.
04:56You're like, well, you know,
04:56he's actually on a better pace.
04:58You're like, can you?
04:59No, it's not happened.
05:02You know, Jackson Jobe was doing great.
05:04Then he got hurt.
05:05Now he's back from his rehab.
05:07He's doing some rehab with Lakeland.
05:10I think he's moving back up now to Toledo this week.
05:14You know, is he going to be back on the fast track?
05:16Well, as a guy who's a third baseman,
05:18he's not a great defensive third baseman.
05:20But if he can hit, he can hit.
05:22And that's what I want in this lineup.
05:24Give me guys that can hit.
05:25But it's unknown.
05:26Because you don't know if he can do it
05:27in the major league level.
05:28And it's not like he was hitting 300 at Toledo.
05:30So, or at Erie for that matter.
05:33So, I'm not sure.
05:36How Uli is doing great at Erie.
05:39But it's double A.
05:41It's not triple.
05:42He still hasn't seen the next level of pitching yet.
05:44And he's only 21 years old.
05:46I like the guys they have in the minors,
05:47but they're years away.
05:49So, answering your question about the World Series window,
05:52to build a World Series team,
05:55I feel like that's probably four years away.
05:58Three or four years away
05:59before you start to see those guys.
06:01And then you have to hope that those are guys
06:03that are contributing,
06:03like Max Clark and Kevin McGonigal.
06:06And maybe some others that spring up here.
06:08Jackson Jobe could be a huge part of this team
06:10as early as this year to show his worth.
06:15But you're probably not going to want to pitch him
06:16too much more this year anyway.
06:18So, next year is really his opportunity.
06:20So, if Jobe's in the rotation next season,
06:25you know, things could be going in a better direction.
06:28But it doesn't help the lineup.
06:29The lineup is the problem.
06:32Because they don't have a shortstop.
06:34Because they don't have a third baseman.
06:37Because they don't have a first baseman.
06:41You know, they have guys that are good,
06:43not great in the outfield.
06:44Although, Riley Green's been really good.
06:48I'm counting on Kerry Carpenter come back.
06:51I am, I like Kerry.
06:52I'm the one who loves Kerry Carpenter here at this station.
06:57But he's got a past with injuries.
07:00And now that's a concern.
07:01Is he even, is he a guy?
07:03But I mean, those are major holes of production.
07:05Because these days, shortstops are productive.
07:08Third basemen are productive.
07:10First baseman has got to be productive.
07:12That's where you get your power.
07:15And there may be an outfielder you need to throw in there.
07:18Catcher, I mean, you know, I'm waiting for Dylan Dingler
07:22to get his opportunity with the Tigers.
07:24Because he's done everything you expect him
07:25to do offensively at Toledo.
07:26He's been great.
07:28But can he do it at this next level?
07:31You know, Jake Rodgers, every once in a while,
07:33runs into one.
07:35And they like Jake Rodgers
07:36for the way he handles the pitching staff.
07:38I mean, that's Tarek Skubal's guy.
07:40So are you going to move away from Jake Rodgers?
07:42Carson Kelly is someone who might have some trade value.
07:46And if you were to put Kelly with somebody,
07:48with Jack Flaherty perhaps,
07:49maybe you get somebody else's prospect.
