00:27Big Big Pumpkin by Joan M. Lexo Pictures by Sue Lundgren
00:35I am a big bear now, Bear said to his mother. I have to look for a new home.
00:42Yes, I will let you go, Bear's mother said, but you know I am here if you need any help.
00:54So Bear went on his way. He looked all around for a new home.
01:03Here is a nice tree. I will make my home by this tree, Bear said.
01:12Then the rain came down. Help! Bear said. A tree is no good in the rain.
01:22So Bear went on his way. By and by he saw a cave.
01:27Here is a good home for me, he said. It will not rain in the cave.
01:32And Bear went into the cave. Soon Crow came by.
01:40May I come in, asked Crow. That tree is my home, but a tree is not a
01:45good house in the rain. I am all wet. Yes, do come in, Bear said.
01:54When the rain stopped, Crow said, Now I will go back to my tree.
01:59Here is a gift for you. Thank you for letting me stay here.
02:06Thank you, Crow, Bear answered. Your gift looks like a seed.
02:10Seeds grow from seeds. I will not eat it. I will put it in the ground.
02:15I will see what grows from it. Crow went back to her tree.
02:23Bear put the seed in the ground by his new home.
02:26Soon Bear saw a green vine growing out of the ground.
02:31There is a round green thing growing on the vine, Bear said.
02:34What can it be? I do not know what it is, Crow said from
02:38her tree, but soon we will see. Many days went by.
02:47Then Bear said to Crow, Look how big it is! How did that little seed
02:52grow into this big round thing? And it is not green now. It is orange, said
02:58Crow. It looks like a pumpkin, but I did not know
03:02a pumpkin could grow so big. Now the pumpkin is too big, Bear said.
03:12I cannot get into my new home. The pumpkin is in the way.
03:20What can I do? asked Bear. He thought for a moment.
03:25I know, he shouted at last. I will go ask my mother.
03:33Bear went to see his mother. I cannot get into my new home, he said.
03:38A big, big pumpkin is in the way. It is, asked his mother.
03:44Then do what I do. What do you do? asked Bear.
03:49I make dew, his mother said. Thank you, Bear said, but Bear was sad.
03:58He did not understand his mother. Bear ran back to his cave.
04:03He called Crow. Crow, Crow, said Bear.
04:10My mother told me what I have to do. She said I have to make dew.
04:15But how do you make dew? Crow said, My mother always says to make
04:24dew with what you have. But all I have is a pumpkin, Bear answered.
04:30How can I make dew with that? I have to get into my cave, but the pumpkin
04:34is in the way. Well, we will think about it, Crow said.
04:39Bear and Crow walked around and around the tree.
04:43Think, think, think, Bear said. And Crow and Bear thought, thought, thought.
04:51Stop, said Bear. I know how I can make dew.
04:56Crow, do you have many friends around here? Yes, Crow answered.
05:01Then let us go and see them now, said Bear.
05:04Bear and Crow went to see each of Crow's friends.
05:11Come with us, said Bear. We need your help.
05:14Yes, who will come, Crow asked. Who will help Bear?
05:22We will all come, said all of Crow's friends. They all went back with Bear and Crow to the
05:29big, big pumpkin. I will cut windows and a door in the pumpkin,
05:35Bear said. It will be my new home, and all of you can
05:39eat as much pumpkin as you want. Bear cut out windows and a door.
05:49The animals went into the pumpkin. They worked and worked and worked.
05:54They ate and ate and ate. Mmm, this is nice, said Mouse.
06:03I like to eat pumpkin too, Squirrel said. Me too, said Skunk.
06:13There are lots of seeds in the pumpkin, Crow said.
06:16Take some seeds with you. You can grow pumpkins too.
06:23Thank you all, Bear said. Now I have a nice new home.
06:32And we have a nice new friend, said Bear's new friends.
