00:41Late one day in fall, Daddy Cassie and Baby Louie went out to the garden to look at their
00:47pumpkin.
00:52All summer and fall, the family tended the pumpkin.
00:55They gave it food and water, sun and shade, and plenty of room to grow.
01:04And all summer and fall, they kept their big puppy Marley out of the garden.
01:13Now the pumpkin was round, it was orange, and it was very, very big.
01:19Will it win a prize?
01:21Cassie asked.
01:23Daddy nodded proudly.
01:25We might even win the blue ribbon, he said.
01:28But first, we have to get the pumpkin to the fair.
01:35The next day, Daddy snipped the pumpkin from the vine.
01:42Mommy helped Daddy roll the pumpkin to the truck.
01:46Marley batted at the pumpkin.
01:48That's not a ball, Marley, said Mommy.
01:51That's our blue ribbon pumpkin.
01:57Daddy tied Marley up.
01:59Sorry, Marley, he said, but we can't let you mess up our blue ribbon pumpkin.
02:08Then Daddy and Mommy tried to lift the pumpkin onto the truck.
02:12It's too big to lift, said Mommy.
02:16What will we do? asked Cassie.
02:22Daddy went inside and came back with the ironing board.
02:26This can be a ramp, he said.
02:29Cassie helped Mommy and Daddy roll the pumpkin up the ramp.
02:36At last, the pumpkin was ready to go to the fair.
02:40Everybody got behind the pumpkin so Mommy could take a picture.
02:44Say blue ribbon, said Mommy.
02:50Marley wanted to be in the picture.
02:52He tugged at his leash.
02:54Marley broke free and ran towards the truck.
02:57No, Marley, cried Mommy.
03:04Marley made a giant leap and landed right on top of the pumpkin.
03:12The pumpkin rolled out from under Marley.
03:19The pumpkin rolled out of the truck and down the ramp, and then it kept on rolling.
03:25Marley ran after the pumpkin.
03:27Daddy ran after Marley.
03:30Cassie ran after Daddy, and Baby Louie sat down and cried.
03:38The pumpkin crashed into the trash cans, but it didn't slow down.
03:46It bounced onto a scooter, but it didn't slow down.
03:54Then the pumpkin rolled up behind the mailman.
03:57Look out for the pumpkin, yelled Cassie.
04:03The mailman jumped out of the way.
04:06I almost lost my letters, said the mailman.
04:13Look out for Marley, yelled Daddy, but it was too late.
04:18Marley ran into the mailman.
04:21Down went the mailman.
04:22Over went Marley.
04:24Crash went the pumpkin at the bottom of the hill.
04:31This is awful, said Cassie.
04:34Mommy gave her a hug.
04:36When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, she said.
04:40And when life gives you a smashed pumpkin, make pie.
04:47Back at home, Cassie helped Mommy and Daddy bake pie.
04:52Lots and lots of pie.
04:57The pie was so good, it won first prize at the fair.
05:02It was a blue-ribbon pumpkin after all, Cassie said.
05:09And best of all, there was plenty of pie to share.
05:32The pie was so good, it won first prize at the fair.
05:38It was a blue-ribbon pumpkin after all, Cassie said.
