00:07Gatwick Airport has been impacted by a global IT outage.
00:11A mass IT outage was reported worldwide this morning, reportedly affecting airlines, airports,
00:17railway companies, the NHS, the London Stock Exchange and media organisations.
00:23A spokesperson for Gatwick Airport told Sussex World,
00:25Early this morning we began experiencing issues with some of our IT systems.
00:29This is a global Microsoft issue affecting some airlines' check-in systems, baggage
00:33and security, including eGates.
00:36We are using our backup process, but some passengers may experience delays while checking
00:40in and passing through security.
00:44Passengers should arrive for their normal check-in time, which is typically two hours
00:47ahead of their flight time for short haul and three hours for long haul.
00:50We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to resolve the issue as quickly as
00:54possible.
00:55CrowdStrike, an American cyber security company, has been blamed for the outage.
01:00President and CEO George Kurtz said CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted
01:05by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts.
01:09Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted.
01:11This is not a security incident or a cyber attack.
01:15The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.
01:19We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide
01:23complete and continuous updates on our website.
