00:00Hello, I'm Sam Morton and here is your Daily Sussex News Bulletin on Monday, July 29th.
00:06Some very sad news to start off with as the body of a missing diver has been found after a large-scale search off the East Sussex coast.
00:14Two helicopters and three fixed-wing aircraft alongside multiple East Sussex RN9 lifeboats were launched in the search for a missing diver off the coast of Hastings on Saturday.
00:24Crews from the Coast Guard raised the alert and started the search at approximately 1.50pm.
00:30An exposed person for Eastbourne's RNLI confirmed that its crew stood down at 1am on Sunday after nothing could be found at sea.
00:37However, in a statement, Sussex Police confirmed that the body of a diver has sadly been recovered off the coast of Hastings.
00:43His next of kin have been informed and have been supported by specialist officers. It is said that this is now a matter for the coroner.
00:49Meanwhile, police are searching for multiple suspects after a man suffered stab wounds in West Sussex.
00:55Sussex Police said officers were called to reports of a group of people assaulting a man in Broadfield, Barton, Crawley at around 8.15pm on Sunday.
01:03Officers attended and were alerted that the man, a 38-year-old, had been stabbed and was in St James' Walk.
01:09He was taken to hospital with serious but not life-changing injuries. He has since been discharged.
01:14Police said a thorough investigation is ongoing to locate the suspects involved in the incident and an increased police presence can be expected in the area.
01:23People in Sussex are being urged to stay protected with temperatures continuing to soar and UV levels very high this week.
01:30Pictures showed a packed Brighton beach over the weekend as visitors and residents made the most of the hot weather with highs of 25 degrees Celsius.
01:38That temperature will soon seem cool though with some areas of Sussex including Crawley, Horsham and Hastings seeing highs of 31 degrees Celsius by Tuesday afternoon.
01:47However, the Met Office warned there is a chance of thunderstorms as the week progresses.
01:52A Met Office spokesperson said conditions look to turn increasingly warm or even hot in central, southern and eastern areas early next week and it is possible that some places may reach heatwave criteria.
02:03It is uncertain how long this form of weather will last though with a possible breakdown from midweek.
02:08A meteorologist said UV light is strong wherever you are for much of the UK over the next few days.
02:14They added, we are looking at very high levels across southern parts of England. It is worth staying protected if you are heading to the beach or outside for a prolonged period of time.
02:22Finally, the annual Pride celebrations in Hastings have been cancelled due to a considerable funding and sponsorship deficit.
02:29Hastings Pride 2024 was due to take place on Sunday August 25th at The Oval in Bohemia Road.
02:36The organisers said with a heavy heart and after exploring all options that the Board of Directors has to make the sad announcement that the Pride festival at The Oval has to be cancelled due to a considerable funding and sponsorship deficit.
02:48The organisers said it had been a year like no other after a main funder changed their criteria making them ineligible to apply this year with half other funds no longer available or considerably reduced.
02:59They said that sponsorship had been almost non-existent and despite trying for numerous other funding pots and reaching out to local businesses until the 11th hour they must now make the decision to avoid penalties on both infrastructure and acts so they can find alternative work.
