In Matthew Chapter 21, Jesus makes His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah by riding on a donkey. The crowds welcome Him by spreading cloaks and branches on the road and shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" Jesus then enters the temple and drives out those buying and selling, overturning the tables of the money changers, declaring that the temple should be a house of prayer but has become a den of robbers. On His way back to the city, Jesus curses a barren fig tree, which withers immediately, symbolizing judgment on unfruitfulness. When the chief priests and elders question His authority, Jesus responds with a question about John the Baptist's authority and tells the Parable of the Two Sons, highlighting the importance of obedience to God. He also tells the Parable of the Tenants, where tenants kill the landowner's son, representing the rejection of prophets and Jesus Himself. Jesus warns that the kingdom of God will be taken from those who reject Him and given to a people producing its fruit. The chapter underscores Jesus' messianic identity, authority, and the importance of genuine faith and obedience.
